Atlantis seems to have tremendous potential as a setting or plot point for many fics. In fact, I find that a vast majority of fics suffer from limiting themselves to Hogwarts/London only - it makes many fics feel rather narrow in scope.

Though I remember reading - and loving - Wastelands of Time. Are there any other fics of a similar nature? I loved the whole idea of Atlantis in HP fics. So far, Wastelands of Time has been the only one I've seen featuring it.

    Any suggestions?

Darker or more AU the better; novel length please; no slash if possible, please

The only other fic I've ever read that even mentioned Atlantis was MoR. It has no role in it, however.

It's mentioned, briefly, in A Black Comedy and A Long Journey Home, both in a historical context.

I can't think of a fic - besides Wastelands - that actively makes use of it.

The problem is, if you're going to introduce something as symbolically fraught as Atlantis to an already magical world, you really need to go all-out in giving it that "wow" factor, and Wastelands kind of knocked that one out of the park, epicness-wise.

Even if you do find a fic in which Atlantis is featured, you will be vastly disappointed if your only other reference is Wastelands.

Atlantis was mentioned briefly in Make a Wish- universe. An Omake was about the true reason of its destruction.

There's a short bit about Atlantis in "Odd Ideas" from Rorschach's Blot.

Also, Atlantean cuisine perfected a method of omlette-making w/o breaking any eggs! Important!

    I'm blushing.

Heartlands brings Atlantis back to the modern day.

I cover it briefly, very briefly, somewhere in the 1,000,000 words of the Hero Trilogy.

It's going to pop up as myth and a bottle of wine in An Unfound Door.

I've got a bit of an Atlantis boner, most of the day.

Too bad Heartlands is more dead than Atlantis.

It updated in the last year, and as we've just seen this month, when it comes to our most esteemed authors, even a three year break doesn't mean something is dead.

Now that was painfull to read. [checks the date of publication] Oh... that explains it.

Also, Harry in Denarian Renegade mentions Atlantis once, and thats it.

If you're looking to read about Atlantis for one reason or another, you might be better suited to original fiction. I do understand the draw of HP Fanfiction, but in most cases it centers around the UK because that's where the source material is. Stories that move further afield have to maintain a higher quality of writing to keep readers engaged because so many trappings of canon are gone.

If you're brainstorming for how to use Atlantis in your own fic, then again original works might help you some.

    The Atlantis Gene
    Atlantis (free)
    The Maracot Deep

Sadly most of those are not heavy on the 'fantasy' aspect. Which means it won't work that well for porting over to HP fanfiction, but since I didn't have any fanfic recs I figured I'd list the few original ones I could remember that involved it.

I've read that one - it's a weird one. It involves global pandemic, nazis and aliens - that kind of fiction. At some moments the plot is sluggish and dull, at others it just leaps leaving you bewildered behind. It does have this surreal feel of detachement due to the scale of events. Also, it's a trilogy The Origin Mystery

    My contribution to this thread:
The Hunt for Atlantis is the first book of a long and silly series Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase series. It belongs to the same shelf as Clive Cusslers Dirk Pitt and NUMA files (who also found Atlantis in Atlantis Found): Great mysteries rediscovered, plenty of action, featuring nazis/russians/ancient cults/villains hell bent on world domination and the works. I liked this one more, as it was more down to earth and made our protaginsts go all over the world searching for clues.
