Another Peeve of mine is the Slash-Fangirl interpretation of a gay relationship.

Somehow, almost all of them end up making atleast one of them delicate little girly boys that need protection and comforting from a 'big strong man'. Or something along those lines. Rather demeaning, actually.

I actually know two guys who are gay and they are nothing like that. Not to mention, most of them are piles of angst on top of weird sex.

I wish people who were determined to write slash would atleast give the characters justice. Like in Konoha's Dream Team by ZenoNoKyuubi - Sasuke is gay in it but it does nothing to subtract from his and Naruto's bromance. Infact, it adds to it for me. One of the highlights of that guilty pleasure for me.

 

One thing that annoyes me, is when say Harry and Voldemort fight. Voldemort is winning and is about to defeat Harry. Voldemort the says/does something to anger Harry and Harry then kicks Voldemorts ass as easy as that. Doesn't have to be those two, any fight where something like that happens. If that was understandable...

 

Rage Boost. A classic for nearly all underdogs.

 

We had this discussion in the thread about how movies have changed the way fanfiction is written. I firmly believe Harry written as a short and scrawny guy is due to Radcliffe playing him.

 

That kind of relationship seems to be mostly inspired by Yaoi/Boy Love mangas, where the Uke (The feminine side) and Seme (The 'rough' male) are one of the basic components. Basically they are the clichés of yaoi weeaboos fangirls like and martial arts for their male counteparts.

 

Jordino, weren't you that guy who posted an angry rant about slash in the A/N of a Pokemon fic once and then everyone basically called you out for it? If I remember correctly it went something along the lines of you saying that slash writers should take their writing somewhere else away from FF.net.

 

So I was reading a fic yesterday, that went somehow like this:

Harry meets generic friend/love interest #48461188+4 on the train:

"Oh my friend we just met like 3 hours ago, but I feel like I can trust you with my deepest secrets. BFF forev?"
"Ohh Harry of course you can trust me, because I just love your eleven year old abs that you got by running every morning."
"So my good friend, what is your favorite color?"
"OHMYGOSH Harry how can you be so insensitive? That's private, we are not that close."

Then of course later in the story those private things will cause trouble for Harry be he will still apologize for it.

 

That reminds me, tangentially, of all those poorly written dimension-hopping fics I've come across, where Harry just has to spill everything about himself to the people he encounters and trusts after a marginally short time of knowing them.

 

Just gonna throw out two words:

Creature inheritance.

 

Who doesn't love a good fic where Harry wakes up one day, has wings, weird markings on his skin and finds a letter explaining that Lily was actually a creature of some sort?

These fics have everything: complete character transformation overnight, letter from the past answering any question that might come up, manipulative!Dumbledore who maliciously kept Harry in the dark about his inheritance, mate!Draco or mate!Voldemort, from time to time even mpreg (cause all male creatures are extremely fertile!) and often Weasley bashing thrown in for good measure.

What's not to love?

But seriously, has anybody ever come across a good creature inheritance story?

 

I read a fic ages ago that I thought was pretty good where Malfoy is pining over Harry telling everyone that Harry is is mate and therefore must Marry him, and harry basically goes "oh Hell, no!" I reread it recently though and it's actually really awful.

 

I know I'll probably regret asking this, but what part of that fic made you think it was good?

 

Grimm: A Fairy's Tale by Krahae may qualify. The Fae inheritance develops slowly throughout so it's not cast from the "classic" creature inheritance mold you described.

 

Authors who write well but seem to be unable to stick to one/small number of stories, instead write new stories faster than they do new chapters, ending up with a profile that contains a ton of incomplete stories, many of which are well written, none of which are actually marked abandoned, but in reality are as good as.

 

The fact I was new to fanfiction at the time I would guess.

 

The romance triangle of Harry/Hermione, Hermione/Draco, and Harry/Draco that makes up 95% of all Ships in Fanon.

One is an abomination against nature, one is an abomination against nature and offensive to the gay community, and one usually makes Hermione a dominatrix with Harry as her bitch.

That last one isn't a joke. I've read Fics that literally make Hermione a dominatrix.

 

Can I have those? To troll Minion. That's totally what I want them for... uh. Yeah.

 

What do you call it when dominatrixes are dominated? Other than irony. I quite like those stories.
