Tried to read Wastelands of Time and got to chapter 22 till I gave up. I really tried to like it but I freaking hated Harry in this he sounded like a broken record to me and with sentences like " I burned the world down destroyed demons, gods bla bla... and stuff like strawberry and rainfall really made me want to bitch slap him.

I almost was constantly rolling my eyes especially in a Gringotts scene where he somehow sounded like a total retard, this fic tries way to hard to be epic imo though the writing is pretty good just the content falls flat to me.

Though the Harry in a Unfound Door was pretty cool in my books with the Breaking Bad feel, without a doubt my favorite story by Joe.

I'm in agreement with Kira and Light.

It's well written for sure but I don't feel a connection with any of the characters, including Harry. This makes it hard for me to be drawn into a story. In a way, its greatest strength (how epic it is), is its greatest weakness. I can't relate to Harry in the slightest, and I feel like I'm reading it more for the "greatness" than seeing how the characters change over time.

I do love An Unfound Door though. It is awesome. Harry is amazing there.

Harry in Forging the Sword and in Prince of a Dark Kingdom has great Harrys too.

Prince of a Dark Kingdom has one of the best characterizations of Snape I've ever read in fanfiction as well. He is what I see if Lily had not died from Voldemort.

I think my personal favorite characterizations of Harry are both (mostly) crack: The Thief of Hogwarts and 'The Blazin' Goblet' and 'Order of the Chronic':

I will not be original and I'll say that portrayals of Harry in Wastelands and Denarian trilogy are my favourite ones.

Also, By the Divining Light should be mentioned. For me, it perfectly captures the atmosphere of what Harry-mentored-by-Dumbledore should look like.

I actually liked Harry from Hary Potter and the Cursed Summer. Strong but not uber-powerful and prone to all the failing of the teenage wizard just flexing his wings, but eager to learn new useful spells (I think keyword is 'useful' - changing rat into a goblet certainly isn't).

The Harry I like the most is from 'Forging the Sword'.

I also like the Harry from 'Browncoat, Green Eyes'.

Bungle in the Jungle is one of my favorites that hasn't been mentioned yet.

I guess you may as well include the rest of jbern's fics as well though, he writes the most realistic Harry personality I've seen.

Harry in "What Would Slytherin Harry Do?" Is still my favorite.

Jbern's The Lie I've Lived or Draco664's Apprentice/Journeyman/Master Harry are both standout as well.

I can't believe Harry from Hogwarts Battle School hasn't been mentioned here before. He has great character development right from the beginning - with big highs and big lows. A perfectly believable character, and close enough to his canon characterization that he doesn't feel like an alien in Harry Potter's body.

Other great versions of Harry - Song of the Trees, Backwards With a Purpose and Fantastic Elves and Where to Find Them come to mind.

    And super gay.

Can't say I'm a big fan of Wastelands either.

Denarian Trilogy Harry was asshole Harry done perfectly.

There are quite a few fics that write Harry well. He's much easier to pull off than other characters.
