Saw Jupiter Ascending. Kind of cool yet hilariously and amazingly awful movie. I am absolutely mystified that so many of the elements were put in, and countless people looked at it and gave it their approval.

It's the result of everyone in charge saying "Let's make a sci-fi action blockbuster that'll make lots of money, just like Transformers!" instead of actually trying to tell a half-way decent story.

Pity that it's not working ($18 Million opening, $180 Million budget). I thought it was a fun, brain-off popcorn chomper.

I came away disappointed. It was a good storyline and thoroughly unsettling in one way, but the storytelling was something awful. Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, and Sean Bean, I thought, acted very well; but Eddie Redmayne way overplayed his role as Balem.

The "I can ice skate through the air" idea was inept, detracting immediately from any scene—not the idea of flying/anti-gravity boots, mind you—but the actually way he moved and the special effects along with it. It reminded me of The Incredibles or any movie featuring inline skating (Dogma).

The acting sucked. Tatum was wooden and barely there for most of the film, he didnt actually have that many lines considering how often he was on screen, most of it was spent air skating. He and Mila Kunis had no chemistry whatsoever and Redmayne apparently went to the Christian Bale School of Whisper acting.

It was a really bad movie that had some amazing visuals to make it bearable.

Naa, I could see the chemistry happening. The problem, IMO, was that the writing was bad at that point and it made her attraction to him too fake.

Just saw Jupiter Ascending aka 'Hollywood Takes a Dump and Wipes with 180 Million'.

Seriously that was almost as bad as John Carter. Wtf are you doing, Wachowskis?

I cannot watch anything with Milan Kunis. Mainly cause every time she speaks my brain goes:

    "Shut up, meg!"

    Spiraling into insanity.

I thought the concept was retarded as hell when I first heard of it so I'm not surprised. Thankfully no one I know is interested at all and I won't be dragged to see it.

I read somwhere something like this: Jupiter Ascending is like someone watched Dune, Star Wars, Stargate really liked them, then wrote a fanfiction that went nowhere and somwwhat spiraled out of control, then sold that story to Hollywood and Hollywood tried to make a Mass Effect movie.

I think they had a bunch of leftover special effects from Cloud Atlas and just threw them together using the first young adult book they could find as a plot.

Hope we don't have to wait till 2018 for another good Wachowski movie.

Honestly they should head to tv and just remake Dune. Lit-majory enough to be in their strikezone.

So, obviously, this movie is not necessarily on DLP's normal interests of movies, but I find it interesting considering the circumstances.

Old Fashioned, (Youtube Trailer) is a low budget romance movie put out by a Christian company coming out on the same day as 50 Shades. I doubt it will ever make the money 50 Shades will, but if you are being forced to go see a romantic movie this weekend it could offer a positive alternative as opposed to supporting crappy writing, idiotic wish fulfillment, and ultimately is a movie about respecting women as opposed to borderline abuse.

Not trying to start any arguments or even discussion really, but just informing.

Indeed. Especially exploding heads synchronized to classical music.

I hear it's getting slammed. The internet likes to overreact though so I dunno.

Yeah. The story is not all that special or anything, but the visuals are stunning and the performances of the individual actors are pretty good and worthy of praise in and of themselves.

    edit:
Well I say that, but mostly its Copleys body language as Chappie. The motion capture is done very well.
