I don't think you need to read the Dresden Files to enjoy the Denarian Trilogy. If I remember correctly, Shezza did a good job of introducing all the relevant elements.

But it might be useful to read some Dresden Wiki pages on things like (1) The Denarians, (2) The Fae, (3) The Knights of the Cross, and (4) The Carpenter Family. A quiz browse through a few pages like that might help enhance your enjoyment via backstory, but even that probably is not required.

As others have said, I hadn't even heard of The Dresden Files before reading the denarian series and I had no pproblems at all following the story. It may be stuff that I missed because I hadn't read DF but I won't know <shrug>.

I read The Dresden Files and eventually wrote my own Dresden/HP fic because of The Denarian Trilogy.

Hey everyone! Done it. Read the entire trilogy. I thought I'll share my experience since I started this thread and all. :sherlock:

First off, I think it would be better if you read just the First Book - Storm Front - before jumping into Denarian. It made it much easier for me to understand what it meant by True Wizards, who is Harry Dresden?, what the fuck is white council?, who are the assholes that are called 'wardens'? and so on. A little wiki read on Order of Blackened Denarius would set you up good. That's all I did and I can sum up the series in one word...AWeSoME.

Books: I enjoyed the third book the most, the second one a tad bit less, and the first one a little more less. Lord - 9.5/10, Knight - 8.5/10, Renegade - 7/10.

    Characters:

Meciel: She became the best character of the series by the end. What can I say, she is hot, she is beautiful, she is sexy and she is lovely. She is unforgiving. And she called Albus Dumbledore 'boy'. I also pity her a little. I am not a Christian, so it was the first time I've heard the back story of a fallen angel. She refused to kill a child, that's why God punished her that way...that doesn't go with the image of God, I think. Its more like the work of satan. Don't know...I will remember her as an angel, rather than a demon. That's for sure.

Dumbledore: Hands on, the best Dumbledore I've seen. Better than canon. Much Better than fanfictions. It will be a chore to read bad Dumbledores now. A bigger chore, I mean.

Harry: A very likable smartass for his own good, if a bit irritating at times. I might also be a little jealous of him, since the guy is literally living the fantasy of most males across the planet. A hot girl in their head, only they could see, touch, smell her and who loves them. Wow! I really really loved his relationship with Meciel...wish I had someone like her with me.

Amanda: I think her role was to fill the space for canon Harry. She was very likable, sweet but I actually thought of her as a female Harry Potter if J.K. wrote one. So...

Amaris: She was cute and entertaining in her own way, but I got a little bit uncomfortable by her ideas of 'love' when she grew up. Crazy kid.

That's it. I don't care for any other characters. I hated Maeve. Didn't like Hermione Granger at all. And it was nice to see a good Ron for once.

    Action:

I can only say that I wish I could have written like this. The duel in DOM and both the duels of the Astronomy Tower were fantastic. That one with Tessa and the raid on Azkaban were great as well. Hope to one day become as proficient in writing fight scenes.

That's it. Cool work Shezza. I am happy that I could read it all in one go, rather than waiting for one chapter at a time.

On a whole, I give this series a 9/10. Highly recommended to everyone who hasn't already read it.

And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

    - Genesis 22

You need to read up on your Bible, yo.

Hehe. You missed the part where I said I am not a Christian.

Interesting though. So that means if Meciel had feared God and went to sacrifice the child, God would have stopped her but because she did the right thing and placed the child before herself, God punished her. That's the worst piece of...I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, so I will stop here.

Why am I feeling so angry suddenly?

    Man, Harry was always right.

The God of the Old Testament was not a nice deity. He was cruel, callous and played favourites to the nth degree. The modern image of God comes partly from the New Testament, partly from a couple of millennia of cultural shift from that of bronze/iron age civilisations to the way it is now. It could be pretty easily argued that the superstitious and generally fundamentalist reading of the Bible used by people in Sub-Saharan Africa is closer to what was originally used than the organised churches of today.

    Or Quran;

When his son was old enough to work with him, he said, "My son, I have had a dream that I must sacrifice you. What do you think of this?" He replied, "Father, fulfill whatever you are commanded to do and you will find me patient, by the will of God".
