I didn't watch the newest Dredd film.

 

I thought it was a pretty good action movie, definitively underappreciated.

There's also the fact Cersei's more memorable scenes tend to have the focus elsewhere, if you catch my drift.

 

Hmm, the Potter part was just off the cuff on that. It would work sooo much better with Moody instead.

 

Moody and Tonks maybe? Sort of fits that Mentor-Trainee relationship from the film. Though perhaps that's cribbing too much from the source material. Either way, awesome as fuck.

Something I'd like to see ...

A fic where Hogsmeade plays a larger role. It can be pre-war, during the war or post-war but the village is essentially a blank slate. I'd like to see it incorporated into a story beyond having Harry visit the same stores from canon.

 

So, I've been working on something that I'd like to gauge the general interest in. The idea was inspired partially by Harry Potter and the Boy Who Lived by the Santi in that it is a Harry Potter doesn't attend Hogwarts type of story. Instead, he attends Beauxbatons, and the story will primarily attempt to focus on the beauty and wonder of magic.

He won't be testing into higher level classes or learning the dark arts like in BWL. There will be more of a focus on discovering hidden places, pushing the boundaries of magic, and generally trying to create something that has a very magical feel to it. Quite often I find that fanfiction tends to overlook this aspect and can make magic seem...well normal which is boring to me. I'm just not entirely sure anyone else would like to read a story focused on this.

I'm still in the planning stage right now. I need to decide if I want to try doing all seven years like the Santi approached his story or if I want to start during a specific year. This has more to do with me not being entirely confident that I can write younger children all that well. As it is planned right now, Harry will be older than in canon and he will be the older brother of the boy who lived. I'm going to place him at Fleur's age or a year younger just so he can be friends with someone who is canon and not turn the story into Harry and a bunch of original characters.

 

I desperately need Harry-in-Beauxbatons stories.

I would happily read that, anything that deals with the beauty of magic would be a good read for most of the people on this forum I think.

 

I recommended this idea to my secret Santa but owing to creative differences it never really took off. For months I wondered if the idea was as incomprehensible as I was told it was, so I decided to put it here and hope for the best.

The story takes place a few years after the battle of Hogwarts with Harry now a trained auror. He is offered an international assignment to work for the wizarding world equivalent of Interpol (ICW?) as a way for him to be groomed to take over the DMLE. He accepts and is assigned a female partner who is a metamorphgamous coming off a deep cover assignment.
The main plot would trace the rise of an organisation led by a new dark lord and Harry's attempts to stop them. The villain would be more cerebral and secretive than Voldemort with no one having even an inkling of his identity. Harry however because of his experience sees the signs and now begins a cat and mouse game.
It will feature a wiser and more battle-hardened Harry who has managed to hold on to his faith in humanity. His partner by contrast would be more cynical and pessimistic and will have an interesting dynamic with him.
I visualized the villain as a muggleborn Arithmancy professor who has contributed a lot to the field. His motivations will be fueled by a personal tragedy making him a sympathetic anti-hero rather than an outright villain.
Most of the action takes place outside Britain and the genre will be that of an espionage thriller.
