Shorter days works for me. So, are we thinking MathBlade will set up another game, or is someone else going to admin for us?

I think fluff has a claim to run the next game.

Well, I'll need someone to help me make sure it's completely balanced, but the setup is mostly done (if I can find my latest version of it).

I'm probably too busy to play, so I can go over it.

Also, should we maybe put a limit to the number of players we can have per game? At least until we build a bigger player base.
What can we reasonably handle? 12 players per game?

I think larger games are fine as long as everyone remembers that they are committing to whatever amount of activity the host prescribes is necessary to play. This past game was a bit unlucky in the number of modkills/replacements that were needed - typically any game should have very few of those, because players should really strive to never necessitate either mod-action (barring uncontrollable circumstances of course).

Like if others think the size of games is a really big factor in activity, I'd recommend something like two signup lists, with one being 'high commitment' where players commit to really sticking with it and a 'normal commitment' where players are interested and will play, and then mod discretion as to whether they need the extra players/want to try a smaller game with high commitment players/etc. But this is a bit unwieldy in practice so yeah

Yeah, I really dislike mod actions having a tangible result on the outcome of the game, and feel like that is exactly what happened here.

I mean don't get me wrong, I understand the necessity of MathBlade's modkills. What I'm getting at is that alterations should be made to prevent such circumstances in the future as much as possible.

I need a clarification on what happened here?

Also, I'm done exams and in Seattle with fiancee! Yay! Free time!

Well, you know my position. In my big, theme games, I always do Day 1 - 2 Weeks, Day 2 and on- 1 week.

In smaller, open/semi-open games I'm more willing to go 1 week on day 1 and 72 hours on other days, but I still like giving town all the time they need.

Multiple modkills due to inactivity crippled town because all the inactive players that were modkilled were town.

It basically gave scum a free day phase without risk of being lynched.

I think what happened is they requested replacement and none could be found.

And then there were some people (Sloth, Luckylee) who vanished for way too long and should have been modkilled, but weren't.

That game was just a mess.

Prodded after 48 hours or longer. Given 24 hours to post something in thread until replacement search.
Given until start of next game day for a replacement to be found.
    After that mod killed.

Not all times were exact it depended on my availability and I tried to err on the side of players coming into the game.

I used longer days and was transparent for a couple of reasons

    1) some days I knew that would be hard for me to post rapidly. Anything less than 7 day weeks with the level of activity from the active players would have resulted in me spending too much time online and not enough on RL.

    2) This was meant to be a newbie friendly game. On other sites having a shorter week involved more newbie dropouts and experienced players dominating games. There are some newbies who shine with faster games others don't.

    3) Overall the main thing I have to take in mind is more inactivity and some differing opinions on balance.

Mostly the game was messed up due to inactivity but I did what I could with it.

More detailed mod notes Thurs/Fri if anyone cares for them.
