Flurry-wurry made me think of a werewolf!Fleur crackfic.

 

I think that Harry Potter and the other Champion symbolises everything that is wrong with H/F on ffn. I only skimmed through it, and oh dear god, wanted to fling my iPad against the wall.

 

I don't think I ever managed to even finish the first chapter in that. The bold text certainly doesn't help.

 

Just tried out When A Veela Cries. Best way I can put it is that it's better then I thought it would be with a title like that, but still in the same ballpark.

Veela magic, new Veela buddies, and Dark-But-Not-Evil magic speeches abound. I had to tap out around chapter 18.

 

Well, didn't notice the bolded text on my iPad. Blind so yeah. Anyway, When A Veela Cries is great. It was the first H/F story I read, so I'm a bit biased. Stil though, the expantion on durmstrang and veela in general was very interesting. I should also add that the characterisation of Gabrielle was amazing. I wish i knew someone like that in real life. She has to be my favorite character of the hole story.

 

I couldn't get very far in that one either, despite that also being a DLPer fic. It was way too angsty. I've given pretty much every H/F fic on FFN a go, as long as the summary is legible and it's not a threeway with Daphne or Dobby or anything like that.

 

Well, the angst helps the relationship feel real. And the romance provides welcome relief from the overall dark tone.

 

That's one of those 4th year fics with "champion" in the name that I mentioned. This particular one was way worse than I remembered.

Has anyone ever written a story where Fleur is the one going after Harry in 4th year? I mean you'd have to do it kind of carefully if you wanted to keep them close to their characters. Start off with making them friends and slowly have Fleur develop an attraction there. You could even have Harry be completely blind to it because of his lack of experience with women and just generally thinking he has no shot.

 

I think Jorm wrote something like that, or was at least in the planning stages of it. It pretty much just involved Fleur going after Harry because, ignoring his age, he's likely going to grow up to be the most powerful person in the school, either magically or politically... and Fleur's not one to settle for less than the best in her prospective partners.

At least, that's what I remember of it. It might not have been in the WBA, could have been in one of the member groups... it's been awhile since I looked. I wouldn't mind reading something like that.

 

Somebody should write HP/Fleur wherein Fleur is a bitch and goes after Harry just coz she can and then drops him after she's proven to everybody she's Fleur Delacour. Harry then spirals down into depression and anger and hatred and thus, Dark Lord Potter was born.

 

Alright so anyways my idea for my Harry/Fleur fic that I've not gotten past two chapters:

1. Point of Divergence is Dumbledore reasons Harry is never going to be safe with the Dursley's because blood wards are stupid and silly and make no sense.

2. Dumbledore resigns as headmaster and raises Harry. End of Prologue after he explains to Minerva what he is doing.

3. We do a hard fast forward to Goblet of Fire year at Hogwarts. Harry doesn't attend Hogwarts. Name comes out of Goblet anyways. Gonna have Quirrel not get ensnared by Voldemort and thus teaches all the way till 3rd year where Lucius Malfoy drops off the diary that year, because idk reasons? Working on that part. Quirrel discovers the beast and sends a message to Dumbledore and Minerva, before going after the monster to try to prevent any more problems. Ends really poorly and in his death. Dumbledore heads to Hogwarts figures it out based on Quirrel's message and takes out the basilisk. All this happens off screen. The important thing is it opens DADA position for Moody/Barty Crouch Jr.

4. Harry's name pops out of the Goblet and everyone is confused as fuck because the savior of the Wizarding world vanished 13 years ago. Debating on whether people know he went with Dumbledore or if it was shrouded in mystic.

5. Still has to compete because apparently getting your name entered is a binding magical contract or whatever that means.

6. This Harry is far more advanced in certain aspects of his life, especially his mastery of practical magic (transfiguration/charms etc.) However, unsurprisingly he is going to have issues with his interaction with people who aren't Dumbledore. I can only imagine what being raised by someone like Albus so that will be something explored.

7. Basically I plan on going for the Fleur seeing that this 14 year old is magically powerful trained by one of the greatest wizards of all time, is extremely peculiar, lacks friends and is socially immature and she sees a way to take advantage of him and exploit him for her own gain.

So yeah that's what I got. Any thoughts on it. Trying to figure out what to do with Sirius. Maybe keep him in Azkaban by having the Weasley's never win the trip to Egypt?

 

#4 and #5 are very common cliches - I wouldn't go anywhere near them.
