Is anyone willing to review Goblin Queen in all its horribad glory?

I'm looking, for a story, and I'm wondering if someone can help me? In the fic, Taylor triggered as a chemical tinker and pretty much took the school hostage, used chemicals to do mind whammies on the trio, but got captured before she could finish.

Phobophobia is an alt-power story that I've been enjoying. Features a psychopathic Taylor that feeds off of fear to become stronger. The last update is the best scene I have read which features Danny. Bonus points to the author for skipping both the trigger scene and the Lung fight to start with the bank.

 

Only on chapter 2 so far but it's looking good. Very interesting Taylor and powerset so far

 

Meh. It's not really well written. The narrative and dialogue seem forced -- the author isn't a natural storyteller. Plus, its mostly a canon rehash with a different power. As if we didn't have enough of those already.

It's an interesting power, but it's way too OP. Taylor's basically invincible. Pretty much every physical conflict aside from Endbringers/Scion is now off the table. The fic only has like three chapters, so as long as the author is very careful and goes for the emotional conflicts rather than the physical ones, it should be okay.

However...

The author decided to do the Lung fight and Taylor accidentally saving the Undersiders... in December, five months before it was actually supposed to happen. Not to mention Tattletale's gotten a hold of Taylor. This fic had the perfect set up to do something really creative, but it seems to be going for an illogical canon rehash, so yeeaaaah, not much hope here.

 

I noticed that, about the timeline discrepancy, but I don't particularly care. It doesn't really matter all that much. I don't much care if it's a canon rehash either. I've come across a lot of shit stories. A lot. This story has decent writing and an interesting power, so it has my interest. You can't be too picky in the world of fan fiction. Or have hopes. I keep my hopes good and low.

 

Sarin was a pretty good read. I loved the early chapters where the story was about everyone else dealing with her as a threat. The quality of the storytelling dropped once it switched to Taylor's pov and she was arrested.

 

Wish she hadn't found Lisa and was just wondering around like a Mini Crawler looking for someone to kill her.

 

Seconded. I like psycho!Taylor, and the power is interesting (I like the image of her straddling Uber, beating his face into ground beef while she essentially gets off on his fear), but the writing is really close to terrible. And Taylor monologuing her power and how it works(mostly) in two fights is a bit much. Seems like a really contrived way to get Jack Slash interested in her.

 

The problem with ignoring vrx is that it doesn't make the five pages of terrible posts responding to every single one of his posts go away.

 

That's the main reason I don't use the ignore feature where discussion happens. Despite how ever much I loath seeing what some people say, I prefer being able the follow the flow of the conversation rather than seeing people post and it not make any fucking sense.

 

What's so bad about this guy? I don't pay enough attention to discussion threads to know.

 

Never even looked at the guys name, but is he the guy that wrote Scorpion Sorcerer? If so his writing has improved over the last decade.

Edit: To stay on topic, his other story Her Name is Death is a lot better than phobophobia from a storytelling perspective. It is about how the Protectorate and Wards deal with a GU serial killing Taylor.
