What is known is that Molly made a love potion as a young girl. I don't think the books talk about whether she used it on Arthur or anyone at all.

Ok, thanks. That's what I thought, just wanted to be sure.

That's from the Prisoner of Azkaban, and as far as I know, that is the only quote related to her making a love potion. It doesn't really tell us who she used it on if anyone.

Nope. According to the books, she just made a love potion as young girl, not that she used it, on Arthur or anyone else.

Why didn't Kreacher clean the Black Family House? Was he too depressed? I somehow can't see Sirius Mom not ordering him to, so the House wouldn't become a disgrace to the name Black

Is there any instance, that jumps to mind, of someone using a port key in Hogwarts that we see being made by someone who isn't Dumbledore/couldn't be attributed to Dumbledore (not the triwizard cup)?

To my knowledge, the only Portkey we ever see to or from Hogwarts is the one in OotP (the TriWizCup aside).

Keep in mind, however, that wizards usually do not portkey or apparate into one another's backyard. The proper way is to arrive in front of the property -- which is, in the case of Hogwarts, before the gate. Thus we see e.g. Fudge walking up the driveway, and not just appearing somewhere on the lot, even assuming this would be possible with Portkeys. And further, my impression is that Portkeys are pretty rare in general. Dumbledore hands them out like lemon drops, but he's Dumbledore. The rest of the world has to apply at the Ministry.

All of this can explain the lack of Portkeys to/from Hogwarts without some sort of magical barrier, assuming that was what you were getting at. (Then again, one would assume that at least Voldemort would have portkeyed into Hogwarts in HBP, assuming this had been at all possible.)

I always took that to be because he wanted Draco to fail. Sure, he could have made a portkey to Hogwarts, but he didn't really care if they got inside or not. He never expected Dumbledore to die. It was just punishment.

Its never said outright, but I thought it was heavily implied that be was continuously trying to fufill his last command by Regulus, destroy the locket. Thats the banging we hear in the OotP and why he is also slightly mental. Only when given a new set of commands and a little respect does he snap out of it.

Outside the thread rules but really doesn't deserve its own thread, anyone know what's up with portkey.org?

Question: Did we ever get any information about Muggle Studies? I know some fics have the muggle studies be horribly outdated and wrong, but I find that improbable with Dumbledore around.

I think the only thing we know is that electricity is discussed in Muggle Studies, assuming you exclude DH where Muggle Studies was compulsory and was basically brainwashing.

I don't see what's improbable about it. Dumbledore did keep Binns around as a teacher, after all.

As for the question, Hermione said in PoA (I think) that it would be 'fascinating' to study muggles from the wizarding point of view. No where does she say anything about Muggle studies being horribly outdated, even when she drops the class beacuse of her work load. Hermione being Hermione, we can be reasonably sure that she wouldn't have kept quiet if Muggles were painted to be less competent than we actually are.

On the other hand, it may be that Muggle studies was horribly dated before Harry's time, given that Arthur Weasley obtained an OWL in the subject despite his knowledge level. Still, that does not explain the competence of the obliviators, who do a very good job of hiding magic from the Muggle World.

So yeah, it's fanon bullshit, almost completely contradicted by canon and needs to die.

Hm, expanding on your Binns point, does it state anywhere that History of Magic only teaches the goblin rebellions and everyone sleeps like the majority of fanon says it does? Aren't we only told that it's just a boring class?

I mean, it's a history class. A lot of those are boring, and I can see how students would shit on learning about random troll rights and goblin rebellions when there is charms and transfiguration to focus on. The curriculum could just be shit, and Binns adheres to it.

There are several instances where it's shown that History of Magic teaches things other than goblin rebellions like self stirring cauldrons, Ulric the oddball, Emeric the Evil, Medieval Assembly of European Wizards, etc.

It is mentioned however that nearly everyone was in deep stupor one day. We don't know if it's a common occurrence. There are other instances where they have been awake despite being bored. So it is generally a boring class, that's all.

Some more info on the class

Here's the real question: how does Binns teach without any contact with material objects? How does he open his notes, or grade papers and exams?

Ghosts can interact with material objects in some situations. See moaning myrtle and toilet water for example.

I don't think there's an easy answer to it. Here's what we know:

Binns has a chair, and he floats on it. It is also known that he has notes and reads them out in (some of) his classes.

Now, whether Ghosts can have contact with material objects is the harder question. We do know that Nick patted Harry after the sorting 'giving Harry the sudden, horrible feeling he’d just plunged it into a bucket of ice-cold water', which likely means that the ghost's hand didn't go through Harry's and therefore possibly allows Ghosts to have at least some contact under certain conditions.

Then there's Myrtle who seems to be able to interact with water.

There's the Shrieking Shack. While it contains no ghosts, the fact that even adult witches and wizards kept away from it assuming it was haunted suggests that there might be conditions under which ghosts could affect the material world.

Yet at the same time, Canon says that Ghosts cannot move snow. They also can't pick up food to eat it, but have to pass through it.

Make of it what you will.

You missed one item off: it was possible to waft Nick to the hospital wing after he had got petrified, and possible for him to ingest the Mandrake-based cure.

Re: Binns, he's said to have notes, but we don't know if they're physical notes or ghostly ones. Given that the ghosts are wearing clothes, and the Headless Hunt has ghostly horses, we know that non-human and inanimate objects can have a ghostly form.

You're right about this, but I used the fact that Binns might not have realized that he had died, instead simply continuing his routine as if he was alive as a reasoning for why his notes might have been physical ones. It's only speculation though.
