Question: does metamorph magic affect clothes or body only?

I don't think it was specifically said but seeing as it's a genetic trait I'd imagine it only effects the body.

You want to use the em-dashes, like in the 2nd and 3rd examples, but truth be told, there's no standardized way. Just make sure it's consistent - either put them outside the quotation marks, "attached" to the lines of prose, like this:

Or do it the other way:

Your 3rd example has them both ways.

I'm pretty sure putting the em-dash outside the quote is the "more correct" way, but honestly it looks better to me the other way.

    So, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Just make sure you're consistent.

I'm going to ignore the genetics part, since we don't know it is genetics. All we know is that it's something you're born with.

That aside, while we don't really know much about it, metamorphosing is explained as the ability to change appearance, and is compared to potions, and use of a wand to change appearance. Additionally, there is a mention of metamorph-medals (that don't work), which are said to turn one into another color, sprout warts, and the like.

So, I think we can reasonably assume that it doesn't affect anything other than the body.

How much can a metamorphugus change their body anyway according to canon?

We know from Tonks that they can change their appearance, possibly to the extent that potions used to change appearance can. Assuming Tonks was talking about Polyjuice or something similar, it follows that they can do the equivalent, that is, change their entire body.

The other thing we know is that she got top marks in Concealment and Disguise without having to study. Even if we assume that the course only deals in wand spells for disguises, in order to get top marks she would have had to perform better than all her classmates. Since it's not far-fetched to believe that someone in an auror course would do better than what Viktor Krum could do in the second task, Tonks' performance would have to be even better than that. This lends credence to the idea that she can likely change her whole body.

Does anyone know if Robst's new fic is supposed to be called "You're my Destiny" as fate or if it's as it's currently spelt "You're my Density" as in a function of mass and volume? I know it's awful but the title keep popping up and it bugs me.

It's supposed to be density, and it comes from some kind of corny pick up line.

Summary says title is a back to the future joke. I had a quick skim, looks like he's once again writing the same story with a different title. Super power Harry, Ron bashing, H/Hr 12 year old immortal romance and Harry basically runs the wizarding world already. You'd think after one writes a few million words, one would have improved slightly. I guess not.

He appears to have finally learned that commas and periods aren't interchangeable, which is a bit of an improvement. Plot-wise I'd say it's more accurate to say that he's written 100k words a few dozen times rather than a few million words. Doing the exact same thing over and over isn't a very effective route to improvement.

You could argue that it's honing one skill to - and I hesitate calling it that - perfection. That's a kind of improvement even if it's not all that valuable.

The sad part is that his story has got close to 25 k reviews while other 'gems' in the HP fandom struggle for the 1000 mark.

Here's a good question: why do people love reading and writing terrible Fics with the same ideas again and again, while completely ignoring anything with even the slightest hint of quality and originality?

Because FFn reviews will make them feel better about their sucky writing skills. What I want to know is why they still use the same cliches from 5 years ago

Probably because they're not progressing in Taure's stages of HP fanfiction reading.

I think more than anything, if you write a story and it gets a poor or little reception, you either try to improve your writing ability or give up the ghost. Robst writes the same 100k words with a new title and gets thousands of positive reviews and the thought that his writing is bad never even crosses his mind. He probably thinks if he published an original novel he'd be hailed as the next coming of Dickens.

At times, I'm sorely tempted to find the worst Fics still being written, and post an extensive review explaining just how terrible the Story, if not the Author for writing junk over and over again, really is.

Of course, odds are it would either be ignored or given little thought, but it would be worth a try.

So I just warned off half the thread. If you count on my leniency to allow non-canon questions, I'd at least expect the courtesy to stay on topic then :s

    Sorry about that.

Going back on topic: the Head Boy/Girl having their own rooms is pure Fanon, right? I'm fairly certain it is, but I want to double-check.
