Yes, but also, yes, at least it's a very bad summary. Content wise, it might be okay for the reasons you expressed, but there's so many things wrong with the grammar and writing that it makes me cringe trying to get through it.

There's commas where they shouldn't be, there's no commas where there should be, and that's the only form of punctuation with which the writer seems familiar. It'd also be nice to remember that parentheses come in pairs and that a reader doesn't need to know who you got the tidbits from. Cite it at the bottom of the first page.

(Granted, the last isn't that big of a deal, and in some ways, kind of cool to give props to another author . . . but still, it's bad writing in limited space).

At first glance it might just look like the summary to a really bad Mary-Sue tale and despite that long list of bloodlines and skills for some reason he isn't 'Godlike' . But is the summary by itself all that bad? No obvious spelling/grammatical errors and in a weird way it does tell me something about the story.

The first 3 sentences literally tell you the plot of the first number of chapters, so unless the story starts with him already in the USA and in love with wolverine (*shudder*), the only remaining unknown in the plot is about the ministry.

It would be like the summary for canon Deathly Hallows being:
Harry, Ron and Hermione are on the run searching for Horcruxes after the Ministry falls to Death Eaters. Ron leaves, and after breaking into Gringotts they secure another. They eventually end up back at Hogwarts where Harry receives the most interesting revelation from Snape. But Voldemort has other plans...

 

Yeah... I am not gonna waste time defending this 'cause it really isn't worth it, so this is my last post on the subject. A summary is supposed to tell you what a fic is all about. Revealing the plot isn't such a bad thing imo. Take for example the Titanic trailer. Those 4 odd minutes literally tell you everything about the movie, the beginning, the middle and the end.
A summary's job is just that... to summarise the story, and while it looks like a shitty story, it is a fairly accurate summary.

Yeah, not buying the 'Titanic' did it excuse. You already know going into that movie that the damned boat is going to sink. The love story/necklace is the only thing fictional about it.

 

Fair enough... how about if I say Avatar did it too.

 

Through the magic of spending 30 seconds skimming the first chapter rather than just making things up, I have discovered that the events in the summary occur entirely in the first chapter and it appears to be all just setup for the actual plot (assuming that there is actually a plot in the next four chapters).

The story is utter garbage of course, but I don't really see anything seriously wrong with the summary.

 

I think the main reason that story didn't 'pique' your interest has more to do with the fact that it has Cedric and possibly Logan boning Harry rather than the summary itself.
Don't blame you. But hey, its the main premise of the story... granted its most probably a shitty story, but the thread is Fanfiction's Worst Summaries . This hardly qualifies. Hell its not even a bad one all things considered. The grammar isn't bad, and it tells me what the story is about. In short it does everything a summary should do.

 

How about we rename the thread to "Fanfiction's worst arguments"? Seems appropriate.
