The break the wheel speech suffered the disadvantage of having been in every trailer for the season.

Watching the episode for a second time. I missed it the first time, but Sam's line "Don't worry about, Jon. He always comes back," is absolutely dripping with foreshadowing. Paired with the knowledge that Mel has another big scene with Jon this season... I think we're definitely going to see her res him or at least prepare him for ressurection in the final minutes of episode 10.

I wonder if Emilia Clarke learns how to act before the show is over. Would be a novel experience.

It's amazing how the last ten seconds of an episode can really change how you feel about the entire rest of the season. I was pretty bored for most of the episode. Then that ending.

And it's like...How fucked is everyone? Very fucked, that's how.

Novel? This is what I like to call 'pulling an Emma Watson'. She tamed those eyebrows considerably by DH.

I agree, though I think Lena Headey and Aiden Gillen used to be the worst of them all, but I think they've at least improved marginally from the first few seasons.

What is it, exactly, that you find unconvincing about Emilia Clarke's Daenerys? I see this a lot, but I don't quite understand it.

Seems to me that she faithfully portrays the character. It's just that the character herself is somewhat bland. She's not particularly clever, or witty. She doesn't have opportunities for great monologues or repartee. She doesn't have great talent in administration, politics, or war. She relies heavily on her advisers and tries to avoid extreme decisions. She tries to be regal and aloof, which means showing as little emotion as possible.

She has some positive qualities, the traditional "hero" qualities: guts, intuition, and a desire to do good. Combine that with being born with the right name and some magical fate, and you have yourself a hero. But those qualities don't make for particularly compelling TV except in the climax moments.

We've had some pretty good Emilia Clarke climax moments over the years, hurhur.

It's not that she's bad, per se. She's just not very experienced. Her facial expression range is perceivably narrow. She has around four mastered: wry/smug amusement, surprise, crazy/anger, and aloof/regal blank stare. You are correct in the statement that the character doesn't really need more than that, but during the emotionally intense scenes... like whenever she's crying... you can really spot her meager acting chops.

There are quite a few actors on the show who aren't much better, but most of them are/were children.

Yes, none of us would do any better, but we aren't actors and this is the internet; hypocritical criticism runs rampant.

According to ASOIF wiki the author is going to try and finish the final books before season six. Personally I think that the writers of the show have made this series better than the author. After this latest episode I hope they fuck up the final "White Walker King".

Eight episodes in and apparently the North part for the most part excellent (Winterfell could be better), but the further you go south in Westeros, the worse it is. King's Landing has some better and worse moments, but generally works. On the other hand Dorne is a total disappointment. After Oberyn everybody was probably expecting it to be the coolest part of the Seven Kingdoms and got a very bland group of characters.

In Essos it's the other way. Up in the north, in Braavos, Arya's adventures are rather mediocre and even "Jaqen" suffers from that. Though if it's suppose to be not the same person, not making him as much fun as he was before was probably a right decision.

Down in the south we have finally a meeting between one main character from Westeros and two from Essos. That in itself could put it ahead of Arya's part, but since it was nicely done, there is no question which is better.

Only two episodes remain and for most part we can predict what will happen in them. Probably the only mystery is Dorne because there were so many changes to it that an outcome depends on what important events from the future books it needs to set up.

Apparently once again there was a leak and the Internet exploded few hours before the episode even aired.

    My comment to spoilers:

Thousands wildlings are massacred and everyone cheers. But when one little princess is burned, well then everyone loses their minds.

I just saw the .webm of that scene.

And to think, there's people out there who think this show is any good.

Christ, Stannis' character just got properly fucked up during the whole show, but this shit is just the culmination of all Dumb & Dumber's fanfiction bullshit.

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, here's the .webm in question (needless to say, spoilers ahead):

Why not wait a few hours and find out if that scene ends the way it looks like it will end before we start throwing a shitfit? Literally anything could happen.

    That is a distinct possibility.

You guys think the show just jumped the shark? Because if this scene plays through then I think some Stann the Man fans might go nuclear.

---------- Post automerged at 03:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:12 PM ----------

Even if it doesn't play through it still is a pretty clear character assassination. They just flipped Stannis' character, no two ways about it.

This is why I stopped watching this show. I will wait for the books, read the original vision by Martin and maybe then will I watch the show and see what HBO made better and what did they fucked up.

The show is fucked, but at the same time I can't stop watching it. It is a great TV show and while it may not always be true to the books it's still makes for good TV. But mostly I continue to watch the show because the show inevitably will surpass the books and when that happens I really don't want to spoil the books by accidentally reading something online.

So is this confirmation that she burned? Or was there finally a little mercy shown?
