It is turning out to be pretty fun, yeah. I would probably weigh it in against Kekkai Sensen for anime of the season... but the episodes are a little too formulaic for me to really call it the best. Each week I wait for it to diverge from the same plot (people doubt yukihira's / friend of yukihira's cooking ability, people taste yukihira's / friend of yukihira's cooking, people are surprised by how amazing / original it is) and each week I come away disappointed.

It takes a firm second place though, with Danmachi coming in third (not because it's really good, but because it originated the toothbrush dance & the String).

    Yeah Shokugeki is god tier.

That said oregairu is probably the best this season for me.

Oregairu Zoku is a cut above the rest. Watch and weep, boys.

Oregairu is one of those shows where absolutely nothing happens yet I still, somehow, enjoy watching it. I find it to be a bit like Hyouka.

That said, Yui is unbelievably fucking annoying.

Best part of both seasons of this show was synergy-guy.

That's at least partly why I can't get into it. The other part is that I cannot sympathize with Hachiman at all, so watching him stumble through maturity is not captivating entertainment.

The Yui ship will be sent to the depths of the ocean soon enough. It's been quite clear since the start that the main heroine is Yukino, and that the story is almost as much about her as it is about Hachiman.

Oregairu is the best anime this season, at least the ones that I am watching. I just love the character interaction and how these kids change and try to develop as people. The humour is just consistently funny, there are running jokes that work, and I quite like every character present and am interested in them. As to the shipping there, am at the odd point where I am okay with practically every possibility. The standout character this season was Isshiki for me, really like her.

Am really enjoying Hibike! Euphonium as well. Has gorgeous animation and am quite liking the character development present. (Of course, the rather intense yuri shipping in its fandom doesn't hurt its cause either, and I admit, speculation on whether or not it will happen has me invested)

Read the Shokugeki manga, so, am a bit surprised that the anime is so well received. I guess it is mindless fun, but really, other than some mild entertainment plus pretty shameless so that it is actually kinda fun fanservice is really all that it has going for it. Rest of the characters and plot points are all rather unoriginal.

I enjoy the Shokugeki anime more than the manga. It's similar to how I felt about Initial D anime vs manga.

Seeing cooking/ driving in motion just works much better than reading it. The physical comedy works better in motion too.

    Oregairu s2 is fantastic.

It's driven by character interaction. Every conversation seems to be filled with rather interesting expressions that make you wonder what the other character is thinking. And unlike most drama anime, it is actually somewhat subtle about it - you know that expression was important, but you're not really sure what it meant.

You know that epic, climatic scene in drama anime? I feel like there's at least one every episode of Oragairu. Absolutely loving it. Also what's with the Yui hate. >_<

I'd also second Hibike Euphonium. It's sort of hard to describe - at times feels a bit like a sports/hobby anime, other times a drama and then a slice of life. It's interesting though. Mainly driven by a interesting main character and a fantastic voice actor for her. Unlike most females in anime, she feels like an actual person. But yeah, watch an ep and see what you think.

So I started Shokugeki and binged it all in one go as of last night aha, is there any difference between it and the Manga or does it mostly retain the same elements?

Same so far. I've caught up with the manga and knowing what's coming doesn't diminish anything for me.

If anything, I'm super hyped for next week!

There's also just simple things that don't translate as well in the manga. I love hearing Megumi's timid cheers, Erina freaking out and Alice trolling, lol.

You're right - almost every scene is subtly laced with some deeper meaning, though naturally it's never clear to us (and also, to the characters) what it means.

And yeah, almost every episode has its defining, climactic moment - with EP8's being particularly poignant.

Have you watched Episode 13? Not a true resolution, of course, but still brilliant.

    P.S. Objective ordering: Yukino>Iroha>Sensei>Sorearu>Yui

Alice is my fav, but I flip flop often. Speaks to the strength of the characters.

I absolutely love the direction the story takes after the arc you're on.

This convo probably doesn't belong in the anime section anymore though, lol.

Outside of Kekkai Sensen this season has come to an end for me. A few thoughts.

Fate was fairly crap in the form of an anime, the final episode was almost entirely fan service for visual novel readers. This anime was firmly mediocre.

Kekkai Sensen once again shows that Madhouse are a fantastic studio and I'm pretty eagerly waiting for the final episode. It's also one of the only animes I've seen where characters introduced by the anime haven't been utter crap (black and white), and I hope they maintain at least some presence next season (if there is one).

High School DxD was utter shit. It was even shitter once it moved away from the light novels. Asia is super fucking annoying and is therefor worst girl. I still watch it every time fffansub's releases it though lol.

Every season has at least one release that's amazing, which I had no idea would be. This season's was Shokugeki no Souma, and assuming that this season ends where I expect it to end, and assuming that it's popularity translates into more seasons, then I'd expect at least two more seasons to be made. Erina best gurl.

Danmachi leaves me with mixed feelings. On the one hand I know its crap, on the other it's entertaining, and on another hand it left off on massive cliff hanger, did all of one volume in a single episode, and is now held back by needing more light novels to adapt into anime. I think I would like more though.

Oregairu was the pick of the bunch for me this season, but I don't like where it was finished this season, and I don't like the quality of the animation at all. I wish it was done by Madhouse, but it wasn't. So long as Hachiman ends up with Yui/Yukinon I'm happy.
