I don't mind f/m/f relationship provided the two girls don't just 'suddenly decide' they're lesbian when they both go after Harry at the same time. Random bisexuality is boring, it needs to be already established in some manner.

 

What purpose do polygamous relationships serve in a story, besides fulfilling the author's sexual fantasy? it's not like there's an abundance of interesting girls in canon anyway.

Uh, I guess it's my own disinterest in relationship-centered fics talking. I suppose it works in erotic fiction, but it just feels forced and unnecessary in any other type of fic. And stories that do things just for the sake of wish-fulfillment tend to be shit. You might as well make Harry a sex-god Phoenix animagus billionaire while you're at it.

I took a short year long break, but I meant more along the lines the ones that are Favorited and reviewed heavily. The quality of the community itself has really plummeted. DLP thankfully has remained pretty strong thank god.

Not always. Sometimes yes, but not always. It does introduce an interesting dynamic. Luna and Ginny seem like a pair who could make it work with Harry, rather than the other way around.

 

I don't see Ginny as a sharing type. I always had a feeling that her treatment of Fleur was because she didn't want to share her favorite brother.

 

If there is any threesome that would work it's Harry/Ginny/Luna. Somewhat ironically, it seems that Harry would need more persuading than Ginny for this to work : between the fact that Ginny was inordinately pleased when Harry took Luna to Slughorn's party and her fierce insistence that Luna accompany him to the Ravenclaw Tower, Ginny seems to want Harry to hook up with Luna far more than Harry wants to himself.

I always thought Ginny was pleased that Harry took Luna to the party because A) She never saw Looney as a threat and B) She felt a little sorry for Luna, and wanted to toss her a bone before stealing the prize.

Then again, I might be really jaded, and completely misinterpreting canon.

I'm detecting an underlying Oedipus Complex at DLP

 

I've always liked Harry/Luna. I don't mind Harry/Ginny, but Harry/Hermione and Harry/Fleur has rubbed me wrong for some reason. Not a fan of Harry/Cho at all. We don't really have that much characterization on Fleur, and even less on pretty much any of the other named students, with at best a one-dimensional characterization (Romilda = stalker is all we know about Romilda). So, something like Harry/Greengrass is at best going to be Harry/OC with the OC named "Greengrass," unfortunately.

That's why I think Harry/Luna or barring that Harry/Ginny makes the most sense.

 

Harry/Tonks, obviously. Shapeshifting older magic cop? Awww yeah.

 

Tonks breaks the half your age + 7 rule. Then again, I suppose Lupin does as well. It just doesn't seem like the kind of relationship that's going to be all that stable. Earliest opportunity Harry would hook with Tonks would be at the beginning of Order of the Phoenix, but he'll have significantly less opportunity to see her than Luna, Ginny, or others.

With Tonks it's mostly a long-distance relationship and one he'd have to keep heavily under wraps for a while. But, it could happen I guess.

That's part of the reason why I appreciated GreenGecko's take on Harry/Tonks, which occurs during Harry's time in Auror Academy and slowly builds up from there.

 

Perhaps the Half+7 rule would be different for Wizards and Witches, considering their extended lifespans.
