So I'm playing non-HC seeing I'm too new to know what I'm doing the first go round, and it's a hoot. Playing a 2H marauder with Molten Strike so far, and it's pretty ridiculous so far - just got to the camp in act 2, and the only time I've come close to death is in the Merveil fight - that must actually be kind of hairy playing HC, it's a huge step up compared to anything else in act 1. few low-level uniques, and just got a Static Strike gem that looks intriguing. Greatest free game ever.

I have two of those sitting in my stash. Of course, that's Standard. I ain't got shit in Warbands right now, but I'm running an EK Shadow that really isn't very gear-dependent (at least at the moment).

Immunity to stun seems good.

 

Died to cruel act 4 Piety. She does way too much damage. I was basically hitting her and running back to my portal. I got her down to 1/3rd life when I got too greedy and stayed longer than I should have.

She was also trapped in a corner which made running around her very difficult. I can't even imagine how much damage a squishy build would take.

I was also pretty tanky, which made the damage even more ridiculous.

I'm starting to suspect that this game is balanced more around Softcore 4 player parties, and as a solo hardcore player, it's getting harder and harder to deal with the BS scaling that they do.

Also the idea that they need to balance around portal hopping makes for an even shittier experience. I shouldn't have to portal hop to fight bosses. It's very shitty.

If I could play softcore without being bored out of my mind I would, but I can't, and it sucks, because it's clear the PoE solo hardcore experience is not balanced properly at the moment.

It happened with the release of Act 3 as well. Everything from Act 1-2 was easy, act 3 was hard, and Dominus was very hard.

They shouldn't have 3 and a half acts of ease, and then a huge increase in difficulty before going back to a snorefest.

 

I noticed that myself, I'm fairly nooby and I died maybe 3 times until the end of act 3, died a couple of times there. But in act 4...oh boy, probably 80 deaths easily.

 

My Rng is on point this league, found a 300 pdps Thicket which got 60 on the 60-79 tora roll, can be rerolled when i get level 7 to over 350 pdps, and found a 330 pdps Lioneye's Glare.

pdps means physical damage per second. Its done by adding the bottom tier damage and the upper tier damage together, dividing by 2 and multiply by the attack speed, this gives you your average damage per second before damage modifiers. Thicket is a type of bow, and Lioneye's glare is also a type of bow. 330 is considered a high end roll. The Thicket is also a well rolled bow.

Basically I got 2 really good bows.

EDIT: Tora is an npc that can add mods to your bow, and it adds between a range, I got the lower end of the range. I can try and redo it later on for a better roll.

Does it make sense now?

 

Unfortunately PoE is actually balanced around Alt+F4, a 'mechanic' that dates back to old ARPG. It's assumed that if shit gets dicey in hardcore, you will just quit and try again rather than RIP your character.

 

That too. I actually have a macro for that, but I prefer not to use it. Only as a last resort really. I started using it when they introduced Invasion mobs. That shit was crazy Rippy.

Back to Cruel, new character, destroys everything.

Killed Piety without going to town. Hit heatlh pot once. Face tanked Kroam. Darresso easy.

Nothing hurts me. Cyclone through everything.

3k life. 40% armor.

Malachai one shots me because of a misclick.

So balanced.

 

And that is why I just play standard now. Shit like that. The game is balanced around the handful of streamers/pros with Starcraft level reaction skills. They can pop pots/ click there Macro in such a way that they never even get hit by that stuff, and the rest of the playerbase suffers from it.

 

I'll probably take a break and try to play Warbands. Last time I tried playing Softcore I got bored in a day. But I think I might need a refresher course on lame ways to die in this patch, otherwise I'll keep losing characters.

I hear the new maps have bosses and mechanics that can get you killed easily too.

I prefer Hardcore deaths to be because my character wasn't ready for the content, not because I decided to blink at the wrong time, or because my mouse malfunctioned for half a second.

Apparently a level 75 char selling Malachai runs was one shot by cruel Malachai as well.

 

you probably want at least 4.5k Life to do cruel malachai safely and a good pot setup. Merciless Dominus is easier then cruel Malachai, think they went full retard here.
