Would you play a Harry Potter MMORPG if one were officially created?

As I was looking at some articles today talking about Pottermore, I remembered that when it was first announced, a lot of people thought it was going to be a Harry Potter MMORPG, before it was clarified what Pottermore was.

This makes me wonder, if today Warner Brothers decided to create a Harry Potter MMORPG that perhaps JK Rowling was involved with, would you play it and what would you want in it?

P.S.: Wasn't certain if this belonged in the Gaming and PC Discussion or General Discussion, as this topic is Harry Potter related.

    Depends entirely on the execution.

One suspects that it would be badly done.

Story driven roleplaying leveling (think SWTOR) through Hogwarts and mayhaps early career - turned into Sandbox MMO during the outbreak of the war choosing sides; (possibly hardcore deaths diablo style) or just goofing off doing something entirely else.

Viable endgame past-times: War(PvP), Quidditch (PvP), Professions with Shops (Crafting & Market), Dark Creature attacks? (PvE), Different raids for light/dark, taking out major known wizards (PvE).

However, any such attempt would probably suffer from the MMO trend of pushing out half-assed, not even a quarter-finished games like all the recent ones. But yes, yes I'd play it.

Nope, but I just don't like MMORPG. Harry Potter franchise is one of few I'm waiting for a good, solid single player RPG with an open world. Funny thing is that 8 years ago I would say it's pretty much given we will get something like that sooner than later and would laugh if someone said that my other favorite and a lot less famous book series will ever get any game, good or bad. Yet here we are, Witcher 3 is kicking ass while Harry Potter is still waiting for his chance to shine.

No, I would not. That's because I don't like playing with other people.

Even in the one MMO I play (Tibia), I avoid other players like the plague.

I'd play a Bioware/CD Projekt Red-like RPG set in the HP world with original characters.

I feel considerably less enthusiastic about an MMO. I still think that KOTOR 3 should have been made instead of TOR.

I had recently this same discussion with my brother. He loves playing MMOs with his friends, and I told him how I usually solo those games ,because reasons. And he was baffled why I would solo an MMO.

I think the game would work better as a single player rpg with time progression and branching storyline(like fable and ME).

It wouldn't have even be an mmorpg - just a normal rpg would be fine. Like, having wands give different stats, going into the dungeons at level 1 to kill some rats and gain XP, beating other students in a duel to gain xp, going out into the forbidden forest at high level to fight werewolves and acromantulas, having different side quests for the classes to "earn" new skills and skill upgrades. Also, having different campaign paths so you can end up a dark wizard and still complete the main good quest, or be a normal wizard and get the "bad" ending, all by having the world change according to your actions (like, giving voldemort the philospher's stone in book 1, or letting ginny die in book 2. It's not too much to ask for, and I wouldn't even be mad if there was new content with you not being harry, and just being a generic wizard hero who rises from nothing to become someone.

Oh, and the only requirement is for it to not be made by EA.

Dunno the Sixth game was kinda nice compared to the others. Although I don't know whyy they didn't make a game for the seventh book.

Yes, I know they made games for the seventh book, I just refuse to acknowledge those as legit games.

I don't have a problem with any of the previous HP games, since like most adaptions, its serves its purpose. But there's no real depth to any of them, just like every other adaption ever made. My bigger problem with EA is that they buy developers halfway through a franchise and then ruin them. Though admittedly, Dragon Age Inquisition turned out to be pretty awesome, almost making up for the heap of dog shit that was DA2. ME3 is still shit though, with ME2 being barely okay. Like, I think I would rather play an LJN game than another EA game at this point, but there turning out to be pretty similar, except one is defunt, and the other has hit the perfect target market with the shit they put out.

You have to agree at least on that, that ME2 and 3 has better shooting mechanism then ME1. And you are right, Inquisition was awesome, and we don't talk about DA2, ever.

If they made a HP game that had a similar build as DAO/DAI... I think I would scream, run around in excitement and never shut up about it.

DAO/DAI are some of my favorite games in existence right now. I love that you get to make actual choices that affect the plot. I would only want a HP game that allows me to choose to be a dick, a dark wizard or a pleasant light wizard. Plus, if you got to choose your party and romantic interest... it would be sweet.

There is so much money to be made too.

I'd much, much rather have a good co-op game than yet another MMO.

MMOs are never-ending, and these days I'm just not that interested in getting into them unless I've got friends to play with. But even then I still have a lot more fun playing co-op games these days.

So give me a HP game designed for 2-4 players to play co-op as a hack-n-slash (spell-n-slash?) RPG and I'd be all over it. Could even add some extra elements you don't always see in that kind of game, like some basic ability to design your character, and paths to develop along. Could make the four houses into classes of some sort even, give the game replayability.

I think a Harry Potter MMO would be really interesting. As a person who primarly play MMO's for RPing, a HP MMO holds many posibilities.

Set an RPG in the Greater Good Era perhaps. I could envision being a young wizard surviving after their family was destroyed by Grindelwald who sets out for vengeance or something similar. Of course canon-wise you'd inevitably fail to defeat him but I wouldn't mind a classic revenge tale, can't really recall a well done one in recent years gamewise.

The early RPG games were pretty alright, honestly.
Of course, they were for the GB Colour, so...

I have more than 100 hours on the Philosophers stone game on GBC. Still need 5 cards to complete the set.

I dont think the world is big enough for a MMORPG, it is much more suited for a different game style.
