I'm pretty sure that fic's been deleted. It used to be on my favourites/alerts and I've just now noticed that it's gone.

 

Teamwork: A Teacher's Guide is brilliant, but hasn't been updated in a while.
it's from the same author as Dirt and Ashes, or: The One-and-a-Half Body Problem that was mentioned earlier in the thread

 

So I found this today 4 chapters 41k words. Not bad, hopefully it will continue. The writing is solid. No glaring grammatical errors. No changing tenses. No stupid anime emotes.

The story is still unfolding. Def strong!Naruto vibe, but not the godly fix-all Naruto you get usually. I quite like the take on Itachis relationship with Naruto. Otherwise its still beginning. Solid foundation but no goal in sight.

 

I feel like there will be answers to this question elsewhere in this thread, but I'll go ahead and ask anyway.

What would you guys say are the 'essential' Naruto fics of novel length and above? I've read a few that must be on that list like Geor-Sama's stories, and a few others that are in the Library. I feel as if there must be more quality fics than what I can find by myself.

Doh, I think I mixed two different stories together, I binged a lot of game fics around that time.
Now at least, I know one of them, and The Save Button is your Friends is indeed the one where Naruto used level up points to master the tails and Sarutobi throwing around killing intent at one point and managing the Sanbi like a boss, thanks for that

Can you perchance remember the title or author? If it's the one where Naruto starts out choosing the Sharingan avatar, and converses a bit with the Gamer-Kyuubi.

I don't use alerts.

 

Tried to go through Blind Stars of Fortune. Got through chapter 3 before I couldn't take all the 'protect the pack, failed the pack, new pack, old pack' shit. Kakashi never thought or talked like that in canon, and I hate it when people make him do it in fanon. Just like Sirius and Remus calling Harry cub. There may be a decent story behind it, but I can't get to it.

Imagine if Naruto called people tadpoles.

 

That sounds like something Naruto would do in a smut fic.

 

Really? How do you know when a fic updates then?

 

I would assume by looking at it.

 

I don't know about you but I'm lucky if I get alerts once or twice a week. So I don't see much clutter in that.

 

A smut fic, eh. Well, it could begin something like this:

"Come here my little tadpole." Naruto grinned perversely as he made space in his lap, gesturing for Konohamaru to sit down on it.

 

So he can unleash his tadpoles into someone else hrm.

 

Let's stop now before we go to places that are better left not traveled.

Though there was a pretty funny fic (that was not smut in anyway) that had Naruto with a genin team that he called 'duckies' because they 'all followed after him in a straight line, like baby ducks'. He likewise called Sakura's team 'gophers' after mishearing her call them her gofers.

It was pretty solid until about halfway through when it tried to develop an actual plot and just got confusing.

 

I remember one time travel fic where Naruto became a pseudo-sensei to Team 7, thought of them as ducklings following along and then heard Kakashi echo the same idea half a chapter or so later. Quite amusing at the time, so it stuck in my head when the rest of the fic didn't.
