What it would do is inconvenience and potentially embarrass him which is why Akainu might do it. As you pointed out he's a bit of a jerk. There aren't many other ways you can punish someone of his level without resorting to violence.

 

Doing something to inconvenience or embarrass someone doesn't strike me as something Akainu would do, especially after his confrontation with the Gorosei. It looks like a knee-jerk reaction, which he will regret.

So, three speculative thoughts -

1. Kaido was operated on by a previous user of the Ope Ope Fruit.
2. He has a Mythical Zoan that might grant immortality.
3. He might not actually have a fruit at all. If he did, wouldn't a dip in the ocean solve his problem pretty easily?

The chapter described Kaidou as the strongest CREATURE alive, not pirate. There's a huge difference. Just like Whitebeard was proclaimed the strongest MAN alive. As for the strongest PIRATE, my money is on Shanks, with Blackbeard neck and neck almost.

But yea, curious how Nami and co got away from Big Mam. While the word "escaped" was use, I think its possible they left peacefully when they realized that hippo chick was Big Mam's daughter and showed her the vivre card. Also curious if they're on Wano already. That one chick said something about a samurai not appearing, so if they're not on Wano, they must be near it at least.

And lol...Kaidou likes trying to commit suicide. Don't think anyone saw that coming. Also I usually never do this but, calling next Straw Hat, that weird looking orangutan looking girl who the Strawhats were protecting that ran away. Just got a feeling.

Yea i'd assume so, makes more sense to refer to Kaidou as a creature all things considered. Mangastream(and Eatmanga but pretty sure they just get it from MS) said creature in place of pirate.
