Welp. I'm out of ideas on how to fix this stupid static glitch. Windows 7 looks more attractive by the hour.

I take it you've tried all the normal things . . . updating drivers, checking out the MS website help section, etc. right?

Just in case you didn't . . . right click GW2 shortcut, go to properties, change compatibility to Windows 8. A few have reported that it stops the static glitch.

So one bit of irritation for me is that the Themes page in 7 and 8.1 both had access right there to the Advanced Sound Settings and Screensavers. 10, for some odd reason, segregates it.

Not debilitating, but something of an annoyance when trying to quickly reset and alter the desktop themes. 'Personalize' no longer leads to where you'd think it leads...

The other, and slightly more important piece of annoyance is that that when upgrading directly from 7, the Intel wireless adapter is no longer supported for an updated driver, so I had to manually locate and update in compatibility mode to an 8.1 driver set....hopefully the laptop will stop needing to have its wireless connection troubleshot to kick it back into connection to my router.

This, however, is entirely Intel's fault, and not MS's.

Well, shit. I managed to not find even a hint suggesting that. I was all over the web it seems, but managed to miss that.

It does fix the static glitch, although it takes another 10~ seconds to load, which is confusing. But... eh.

No more static! You are da hero!

Tried all that, actually. Still the install keeps failing, and I've obviously checked to make sure it meets the system requirements, etc. Ah well.

Not meaning to rub salt in the wound, but the best part about that post was how your non-signature so aptly completed your post.

I think I'm going to wait a few weeks to upgrade. Being a guinea pig for release date bugs doesn't sound like an awesome experience. I also am waiting for Nvidia to release a windows 10 driver for Fermi cards. If you're a gamer and have a Fermi card (Nvidia 400 and 500 series) then your driver isn't optimized for directx 12 yet and gaming performance is actually slower in win10 than in win7 & 8 - at least until they update the driver.

Pretty sure it's been in beta for over a year. I downloaded the media creation tool, upgraded and was running w10 within the hour.

It's PC, there's always someone with bugs.

I think they let you rollbcc back too, not sure how though. Didn't need it.

Reading this guaranteed I'm not upgrading anytime soon.

    Nope.

Upgraded the day it came out, and I've enjoyed it. I've had no problems or bugs, and the first time I logged on everything was where I left it. The new interface is leagues ahead of 8.1 as well. Cortana (the Siri-like assistant) was fun to play around with, but until it gets more program integration it definitely feels like a gimmick with limited use. I'm also not sure about Edge, the new Internet Explorer replacement, so I'll stick with Chrome for now. Other than that, I've liked it and would upgrade it again.

Eh, even if most of it is easy to stop, I'm not upgrading on principal. I'm sick of Microsoft's bullshit, and I'm sick of companies fucking over the consumer's privacy in general.

Nothing will change if I keep giving them money, so I'm not going to.

Terribly, it's as readable as what they usually produce. Also, your gallery link isn't the right link, use this one.

Well, I have the image locally but then used google to search for a working link and didn't realized they downscaled it. Anyway, thx for the full picture link.

Well, I was actually even considering buying Windows 10. (Not eligible for the free upgrade)

You guys certainly put that notion out of my head. I'll stick with Win 8.1 for now I guess.

Got the update from Win7 today. Pretty happy with it so far. Basically feels like Win7 just faster. I like the darker theme. Disabled a lot of the tracking/monitoring stuff in privacy settings.

The thing I'm happiest with so far is that when you extend your desktop to a second monitor, it creates a second taskbar for that monitor.

You can. Hit the clock in the bottom corner and proceed to Date and Time settings > Change Date and Time format. It lists heaps of combinations.
