It's in the Almost Recommended section : here. General consensus is that it's bland and unremarkable.

    Here, have a oneshot:

Mudbloods : Harry Potter might have been the one to defeat Voldemort, but it was Hermione Granger who spent decades working on eradicating the pureblood supremacy. Twenty years after Voldemort's defeat, the magical Britain is finally entering an age free of blood prejudice.

Fun oneshot, and only 1.5k words. Not a Hermione glorification fic.

Pretty standard anti-quota schlock that does nothing entertaining, surprising, or interesting whatsoever, and reveals a profound ignorance of the mechanics of antidiscrimination programs 1.5/5

and I should note that I don't support quota systems.

This utterly fails as a work of fiction and if you're writing a political screed than you really don't want to use harry potter fanfiction as a vehicle.

Way to over-analyze it. Can't I enjoy a story in which Hermione Granger's "reforms" backfire without you spouting political drivel? The reforms may not be the realistic thing ever, but in the world of Harry Potter Fanfiction, it has enough plausibility for it to work in a story.

Don't believe I said that it was unrealistic. It's too political to enjoy as a work of fiction and useless as a political argument because it's harry potter fanfiction.

I'm not making a political argument against it. I'm making a literary one.

Fair enough. You see them as reforms, I see Hermione Granger's reforms. A semi-plausible way in which Hermione's social reform streak could backfire amused me.

Enough bitching, it's time for more Almost Recommended.

First off: it's a next gen fic. I know the usual quality of those; really, this one isn't much better. Honestly, I don't really consider this good.
The new additions, both to the cast and to the setting, are kinda boring and bland, if not outright dumb.
For instance, there are now people that wield 2 wands at the same time. There's also a new class of super-spells with a dumb name, legends are added to the HP world that weren't there before, completely new creatures....
Most of it only vaguely fits with canon, too. Sometimes this reads more like a crossover with some kind of original setting.

The OCs are mostly unnecessary, too. There are quite a few times where the author had the opportunity to use canon characters, and didn't. The few canon characters we saw (that don't only show up in the epilogue) are mostly phased out; only Harry and Ginny play a role of real importance in most books, and they're not exceptionally characterized, either.
The newcomers aren't that interesting, on the other hand. We have the typical circle of friends for Albus, Harry's coworkers, the villains, etc. Most of their names start with A, too, for some reason; Aidan, Alec, Albus, Alana, Abby... Adelina, of all names.
Worse, they're mostly smarter than the canon cast, or at least have accomplished more at younger ages, etc.

The plot really isn't that amazing, either. The summary boasts a similar structure to the books, but most of the climaxes happen away from the end of the year.
The escalation is also kind of strange, and later plots quickly become unbelievable. Explaining just how would require spoiling the sequels, though.

So why am I recommending it? Because for all its faults, it was an effective timewaster. If you're looking for anything else than that, don't bother with these fics. 2/5

    This sounds absolutely amazing...

Of course. The story that gives Harry a stupid name and makes him into a bird that shoots lightning out of his face(I would assume) ends up sucking. How can you start with all that going for a story, only to end up having it suck?

Seriously, I would love a HarryxHedwig fic that turns Harry into a thunderhawk out to save the post owls from Voldemort's post bats or vampire owls or something. I could even accept it being one of those shitty accidental animagus stories where Harry gets scared by something.

Hell, here is how it would go. This would start third year, towards the end. First chapter Moony goes wolf and scares Harry into accidentally. Harry turns into some messed up lightning-patronous-owl thing, and proceeds to watch Ron get bit(because werewolf Ron 4 lyf), Sirius get kissed(because he needs SOME kind of motivation, and werewolf Ron is too badass to be sad), and Buckbeak beheaded(which will be revisited over and over as the true source of Harry's motivation, not Ronwolf or Sirius).

Second chapter Harry goes full angstfest for about a half a paragraph, but then Hedwig comes and gets him, and shows him some owl magic to let him talk to post owls. Turns out Voldimort made an army of vampire post bats to disrupt the mail system in the wizarding world, and enable him to make a monopoly on the mail industry(so that he wouldn't have to rely on the Malfoy's for money, of course!). These vampire post bats attack any owls they see, and charge their owners for delivering the mail(the money all going to Voldimort).

Third chapter Harry and Hedwig go to the Owlry, where the Great Owl Leader resides. The owl leader gets angry at Hedwig, and starts to attack her for teaching a human owl magic. Hedwig gets beat up a bit, Harry flashbacks to Buckbeak and shoots lightning out of his face and fries the Great Owl Leader. The Slightly Less Great Owl Sage sees all of this, and says that all is according to prophecy, and declares that Harry is now the leader of the Hogwarts Owls. He now has to go and unite the rest of the Britain owls in order to save the Mail Industry from Voldimort's evil rule.

Fourth chapter Harry goes to visit Ron in the infirmary, and they attempt to talk a bit(Harry, of course, suddenly gaining the intelligence of a mid 20's electrical engineer and manipulating his lightning in order to produce words). Ron is being kind of angsty, but he is also surrounded by "babes(they are 13-14, lets be real here)," so he isn't doing too bad. Ronwolf 4 lyf. Anyway, Harry tells Ron what he needs to do, and Ron's all "well that sucks" and Harry points out that he can shoot lightning out of his face now and Ron agrees that doing all of that is worth having a lightning face.

The story would probably get abandoned here, but if not Harry would go on to save the mail industry, Ron would bite Voldimort, and Voldimort would be killed by Harry's super-patronous-face-love-beam or something while Ron shouts "This is for Buckbeak." Hermione, of course, would show her true colours as the blood supremacist heir to the Merlin family line, so she wouldn't feature too heavily in the story.

Are you shitting on A second chance and its sequels? How could you, that story is amazing. All the mary sue's, the multiple animagus forms, the elfs and the vampires. You would be hardpressed to find a better story, never mind that a basilisk animagus would be done in by a rooster...

When Harry is kidnapped by a seemingly sixteen year old Tom Riddle at the end of his second year, he's convinced that he would do absolutely anything to escape – but "anything" can be a dangerous conviction to have, and even heroes can grow tired of fighting without hope. Sometimes, survival means making a home in the dark…

It's been a while since I read this but from what I can remember:
-it features a Harry with Stockholm Syndrome
    - the characterization is weird
The man responsible for their sister being imprisoned in a book is openly roaming around Hogwarts and all Fred and George do is pull fairly harmless pranks? And why the fuck did Dumbledore let Tom teach at Hogwarts?

It's a good time waster but nothing more.

    Changing Sides

    By: Rough-and-Tumble
Regulus joined the death eaters at 16. He quickly becomes disillusioned with the ideals of The Dark Lord. Knowing his allegiance is until death, he is forced to keep up the act of faithful death eater. Eventually he is forced to make a decision that leads him on an intended suicide mission into the cave. Regulus' survival prevents prophecy from occurring. Begins canon compliant.

What I like about this fic is that they don't make Regulus a genius who is capable of outsmarting Voldemort and fellow death eaters.

Its strong points are its characterization and plot

Its weak points are grammar and flow of the writing (it just seems off to me, and kind of amateurish?). The author add in ocs who are pretty badly characterized (one is an 'ice queen') and don't really add to the story. On the plus side they barely get screen time.

Hey, wouldn't it be cool if someone took as many fanfic cliches as possible and stuffed them all into one story? No? Well, I went ahead and did it anyway. Multi-chapter Mockfic. This summary is actually a lot better than I originally thought.

I think this one gets old about 5 or 6 chapters in but you may different tastes than me.

I remember reading Solace in the Shadows a couple of years back. I thought it was a decent time waster back then, but I didn't care enough to read future updates. Nothing memorable in any case. 2.5/5 from what I recall.

And Harry Potter and the Something Something is already in the almost recommended section.

Pottertalia. Twenty years after the end of the Second Wizarding War, tragedy at the world's safest school prompts a clash between two Magical Ministries and an inquiry of a different kind. If the students and staff of Hogwarts School can't earn back the world's trust, then one Nation may do what the Dark Lord could not and close its doors forever. Long-term fic, Next Gen kids.

Italy and England go to Hogwarts as students in the same year as Scorpious Malfoy after 2 students die.

    Strong Points:
    - the author is a good writer who is unafraid to kill off characters or make bad things happen to characters.
    - the plot is well put together and flows really well
    - The Countries really existing is believable.

    Weak Points:
    - The author likes drama. Every time a character reacts to something it seems like they are over reacting.
There is a fight arc later on in the story and it just drags and drags even though the conflict is believable. A new teacher is introduced and she and Italy have a fight that results in her hating him. The whole thing is just weird. They both seem like overly-dramatic petty bastards for not getting over it immediately.
    - The story is ongoing and REALLY LONG. You have to really be invested in the story to want to finish it.

This falls somewhere between LOL/5 and 2/5. None of the story makes much sense at all, and if the author intended to create a believable story about Neville going around the bend then he failed miserably. On the other hand, you might get some mild amusement out of Neville going around Hogwarts and spamming unforgivable for shits and giggles.

Here's a Ron-centric oneshot I found quite amusing. I would recommend it for the library, but I've learned that my sense of humor is quite unusual, so I've no idea whether anyone else would like this:

It also won an award on HPFF, so there's that. Give it a shot.

After a surprise attack, Sabaku no Gaara is sent to a strange new world, injured and alone. Read as Gaara tries to survive whilst keeping his 'inner demons' at bay. No pairings.

This one's a Naruto crossover. Also, this is post-timeskip!Gaara, so he's not a bloodthirsty maniac like he was before and Gaara is mute in this story.

It's well written and an enjoyable read, but it's ongoing. And there's not that much action.

'At the age of four, the world finally sees that there is something wrong with little Harry Potter.' Reincarnation was always a tricky thing. Poor wizarding world, they won't know what hit them. First in the Purgatorio series.
    Rated: Fiction T - English - Drama - Szayelaporro G. - Chapters: 2 - Words: 8,896 - Reviews: 76 - Favs: 501 - Follows: 164 - Updated: Apr 10, 2013 - Published: Jan 29, 2011 - Status: Complete - id: 6697337

If you are a fan of both Bleach and HP, you NEED to read this story. Szayelaporro is kept in character and this is by no means a canon rehash. Szayelaporro does not suddenly develop a fondness for humans and he is viewed as being creepy by other characters.

If you enjoy this then read the sequel.

Lord Voldemort wished for power. So he summoned something he was sure would grant him it. Unfortunately for him, Espada don't like sharing. Dark, rating for slight gore and some strong language.

This is a crossover with Bleach. It's a very enjoyable but also gore-y. I think DLP can handle it though.

Magic is a wonderful, horrible thing - the more you use it, the more you miss it when it's dead and gone. And while it can be used to perform wonderful feats, it could also be used to execute horrible misdeeds - such as resurrect a Dark Lord. And the Boy-Who-Lived finds himself at the centre of it all. Slightly AU. Fourth Year at Hogwarts and beyond.
    Rated: Fiction M - English - Adventure/Drama - Harry P., Fleur D., Albus D., Narcissa M. - Chapters: 2 - Words: 14,885 - Reviews: 7 - Favs: 30 - Follows: 61 - Updated: 19h ago - Published: Aug 19 - id: 11457581

The story starts out at Malfoy Manor with Lucius connecting the dots and realizing Voldemort will come back eventually. Deciding he wants to be on the Dark Lords good side he starts taking steps to ensure he'll have Voldemort's favor upon his return. This appears to change a good portion of 4th year.

What I really like about this story is the authors approach. We actually see the MoM and Dumbledore debating rules for the Triwizard tournament, Lucius's meddling sees that Narcissa Malfoy becomes the DADA Professor, and Dumbledore calls together part of the Order prior to the 3rd task.

There are some red flags. First and foremost the author states that this fic is a spur of the moment thing, so I don't know how much they've actually planned or how committed they are. The story is was also originally by a different author, so it's hard to tell how much of this is the current author. As for the story it appears to be one of those stories where Voldemort's real goal wasn't pure-blood supremacy but to save society.

Overall I enjoy the politics so far, and while it's a premise that isn't overly original, it is well written and shows some potential. I also enjoy the changing POV's, so far we've seen from Lucius, Narcissa, Dumbledore, and Harry.

    3/5, so far.
