I honestly think you should give it a go. This isn't idle praise; I really think you can come up with something to rival Notes. You got the character voices down in this one-shot - that's something that's really hard to do, and which most Worm authors fail at, hence ruining immersion. I feel this is the most important thing in any fanfic - and generally writers either *have* it or they don't, and since you've got it, I think it would be a pity not to build on it.

I've had some ideas for an Eidolon story, but hadn't the time to do any serious writing, because I'm halfway through completing an original story. But I think what would be interesting is:

    1) Eidolon goes back in time/goes forward in time. His powers lend themselves to such a plot - no need for contrived accidents. If the former, we get to see a cynical, despairing Eidolon as he tries to prevent the inevitable. In the latter, perhaps because young David hopes to "become a hero that saves the world", he gets transported to a future where the se mysterious Endbringers have been wrecking humanity for decades - and then suddenly, this promising young hero with seemingly unlimited power appears to save the day...

    2) David, a geeky child used to thinking his way out of problems, takes up Cauldron's offer, but triggers not with his canon power set, but with the ability to switch between thinker powers. This story would be quite different - I imagine it'll focus a lot more on the machinations of Cauldron, and on politics (e.g. how they establish and extend control over various governments). This is the sort of story I (and some other authors) will be more comfortable writing, because it involves less fight scenes and more battles of wit.

    3) Switch-fic, ala Thinker6's Weaver Nine. Let Eidolon switch places with (say) Taylor. A David that grows up in Brockton Bay, bullied for his disability, before triggering. Perhaps he strikes out as an independent hero, but then on his first night out, meets Lung and then fights a battle that escalates to destroy half the city. Perhaps he gets the S-class label, and ends up fleeing, only to meet up with Jack Slash and his merry crew of psychoshits. And so on.

Is the rant about Grimdark at the beginning of Heromaker's Legacy for real? Or is it a troll?

I get unreasonably angry when authors say that they haven't even read canon and are basing their fics on other fanfiction, especially when the amount of good long stories in the worm fandom is like finding needles in haystacks, and many of those are either abandoned or have very little to do with canon at all (or both). It seems to be much more common in the Worm fandom than any other, probably because those who write such shitty fics probably don't have the mental capacity to stumble their way through a longer novel.

I remember I tried to read that fic just because it had A LOT of words written up but I couldn't get through the first few chapters, even after I started skimming. Nothing happens, and not only does it not happen, it also does not happen in the most uninteresting way.

The entire fic up to when I stopped was about Taylor trying to figure out why she could not control certain bugs. While this could be interesting there was literally no reason given to the reader to care about it. No conflict, no goal, nothing.

Loved the writing of Eidolon in Provocation and it should definitely be continued.

Didn't like Faraday. The first chapter was alright, but while I'm all for character redemptions and while this story did it in a relatively reasonable way, seeing Taylor make friends with her former tormentors who push all the blame onto Sophia is just a bit cheesy and uninteresting.

I always prefer it when reconciliation comes from two characters standing on completely equal ground and forced into situations where they need to form alternative forms of interaction (either through hidden identities, or through facing common obstacles for instance).

I dunno if anyone read the information glossary chapter in Straight Edge, but it's really worth it. I never read any sort of encyclopedia style exposition sections at the end of chapters, but I actually got through all 13,000 words of this one. The way he's imagined both the Worm-verse, the Nasu-verse and the way they interact is absolutely mindblowingly amazing. Really, really interesting, the way he's set it all up.

A Worm/DC crossover, where, instead of triggering, Taylor receives a green lantern ring. The story doesn't start in the locker, but rather on the day of Leviathan's attack on Brockton Bay.

It's a decent Green lantern story until Taylor does her training. A complete bore to anyone who isn't interested in comics. Should have handwaved the origin or at least not had a complete switch from Brokton Bay to Oa.

I don't mind the training. It's better than just saying, "She went to Oa and trained."

I like it, and it seems to have a consistent update rate, which is always a plus.

Eh, I'm sure these'll update soon enough. The authors are still active. :)

They Look Like Nails To Me is definitely hilarious. Writing is good, but it goes to show good writing can't save bad plotting. There's such a thing as jerking your audience around too much.

The Green Lantern story was interesting until it was revealed that the whole corps was there. Dunno, find that hard to come to terms with. Made me lose most interest, tbh.

Seems to be, having 5+ Green Lanterns available, if not dozens or hundreds more, don't think they have much else to do atm, kinda cheapens the tension. Guess I just don't like the idea of Taylor becoming just another Lantern recruit, think I would have preferred if using the Ring was super hard or something, and she had to struggle to become proficient with it.

Dunno, story just didn't grab me. Seems like just anothe alt power Taylor that is going to lose steam soon enough.

I suspect the idea (of one is actually plotted out) is to turn up the power levels and perhaps have this be a Worm multiverse hoping story. Since one GL is already kind of broken for Worm (and this you'd have to make it a political thriller), a while bunch means that this will have to have conflict in the level of actual Scion vs the Corps blowing up worlds

Wow, new chapter of Agent of Cauldron was really unique.

Never seen a flashback chapter of Contessa and Doctor Mother, back when the former was an adorable young girl living in a new world, and the latter was trying to be a mother. It's actually really sad knowing that they ended up throwing that humanity away.

Suddenly, my interest in Contessa as a character has jumped.

I felt it was self-indulgent, really. But maybe it's because I don't have the seething hatred for Cauldron that the rest of the fandom does so I don't need that post. I suspect that some of that has gotten to the author and he/she's overcompensating.

    Yeah I think you're right.

I liked this most recent chapter, because it was a flashback. The Alexandra's POV chapters were great too (and how we see her reacting to Hero and Eidolon's death). The scene where they meet that dictator cape also did a good job of characterization Alexandria.

But pretty much every other interaction with the protagonist seems like it overcompensates a bit too much. I can't see them dropping their professional demeanor to someone who just joined them and act friendly/casual. Number Man, Doctor Mother and Contessa especially seem to express way too much emotion. They're like the paragon of cold professionalism, and it should stay that way until they've grown to know each other a lot more.

I went looking for new Worm fics on SB and only found one worth mentioning:

Fling a Light: In an AU world where an unknown divergence has sent many characters on different paths, Taylor works for Accord. Currently four chapters.

By mentioning, I don’t necessarily mean it’s good, but it is interesting. The writer seems to have ambition, and mysteries are being introduced that I don’t know the answer to as a lot of the divergences are being kept in the dark. This fic has an atmosphere of melancholy and the plot could go in numerous directions at this point.

The events don’t quite match up to what I’d expect in the Worm setting, like a Hero / Independent emergency meeting being held at the Dallon residence. The characters also read off-balance, like they were taken from a Wikipedia summery rather than Worm itself. I haven’t read any Worm chapters with Accord in a while, but his dialogue and behavior doesn’t seem right. That also goes for Armsmaster as well as Taylor herself, who’s too passive with her place in life.

Though with implications she’s being subtly mind controlled by Accord, I’ll give the writer the benefit of the doubt on her.
Still, this fic is only just beginning and with basically no good Wormfics being updated right now, it’s a decent time waster.

    3/5.
