If he didn't ignore it then Voldemort's plan would not continue as planned and the author would actually have to deviate from basic canon events and come up with something new.

For the record I thought the author said Tazmania as well and I also thought he spelled the countries name wrong as well. Of course that's because I read it wrong. As for American education I can't remember if if I learned about those countries in school of if I found out about them on my own.

As for the story. It's readable but the reactions of Hermione and Ron kind of get on my nerves as well as the disappointment from Dumbledore. Maybe I'm just too picky about the characterization. Ignoring that, I like the byplay between Salazar and Harry that's just about the highlight of this fic along with waiting for Harry/Fleur interaction that will be the deal breaker for me.

The previous AN about slowing down updates is worrying. This is usually a precursor to little to no activity for weeks and months at a time.

The story started well enough but I couldn't help but feel like Harry was some sort of mouth piece to show the authors displeasure with Hermione. Every time she spoke, Harry had some sort of inner monologue about how annoying she was acting or just generally putting her down in some way. It was annoying as hell.

Slytherin's portrait in the Chamber of Secrets pretty much destroyed what was left of my patience with the story.

Slowing updates isn't a huge concern to me when they'd cranked out 63k words in half a month previously, heh.

Ron allies with Malfoy to get back at Harry, when there are other Gryffindors that would like to take a shot at Harry? On a cold day in hell maybe. Ron, Hermione, and Harry's characterization throughout this fic has been highly disappointing and jarring. The entire "I do not forgive, I do not forget" bit also made Harry look really immature as well, for as much as the fic is supposed to be about a more mature Harry. (Who seems to turn into an aloof prodigy in just three months of self-study out of nowhere)

At this point, I could really use a "Support Cedric Diggory / Potter Stinks" badge, to be honest.

Olduvai Gorge is in Tanzania. That alone makes Tanzania relevant. When museums like the Creation Museum near Cincinnati are popular, especially when it promotes the existance of dinosaurs during the same time period as early humans, it demonstrates a country's educational system needs to be revamped.

I kind of agree with you about the Hermione interaction, but having Slytherin's potrait in his own Chamber is not a dealbreaker. One would expect the Founders to have had portraits, unless the skill didn't exist at the time.

I think Rowling stated in one of her interviews that the founders did not have portraits made because the magic hadn't been invented yet.

Ah, then that would be the only reason why their portraits wouldn't exist as I can't see them not using the skill if it had existed during their time. More than just hubris, it would be something they could use to ensure the school was on the 'right' path, ie, their path.

Oh, I didn't realize people read other readers' reviews. But why? If you disagree or disagree with another reviewer, do you PM a rebuttal? And if you do, do they ever see it?

It is less about the portrait itself and what I know is going to follow. Like every other 2005-2008 indy!Harry story. Secret libraries and potions laboratories and perhaps some Basilisk eggs? I am not prepared to face that again.

To answer your last question: I receive PM'd responses to my reviews every now and again. I usually see them when I provide "constructive criticism" rather than "unabashed praise". I can be exceptionally critical sometimes. I try to balance that out with praise, or by being constructive in my criticisms, but sometimes the balance of my review is overwhelmingly negative.

Those replies aren't always from the author. Sometimes they come from defensive and aggrieved fans who read my review. Taure isn't alone there.

PM'd replies aren't always in response to criticism, though. A three word review saying "That was beautiful" received a "I'd sort of been hoping someone would say something to that effect; it's annoying to write something with a specific goal like that only to have no-one notice or remark upon it."

Yep, I agree. That is unrealistic. At most there would probably be a book or 2 lying about, but whole libraries? Nah!

I wanna see a fic where Harry indeed finds a library, with an incredibly comfy chair, but the books all turn out to be porn.

I want the Chamber of Secrets to be Sal's wank bank.

I want to see a fic where Harry indeed finds a library but all the books are in Anglo-Saxon/Runes. And Slytherin's portrait is there too, but he doesn't speak English.

Surely the simple answer to those problems is magic? Given enough time and resources im sure theres a spell or enchantment that assists greatly in that sort of things. It makes sense given that so much of the wizarding world is still steeped in the ancient/classical era.

If there was a spell that allowed you to read Runes, I doubt Hogwarts would spend years teaching it.

Isn't that what's Ancient Runes class for? I mean, for ancient magical texts.

That would be an interesting fic. It would force Harry out of his lazy mindset. So say he finds this in 2nd year. He would be forced to take Ancient Runes in 3rd Year. He'd have to earn his knowledge. Although, now that I think about it, he could bypass that by both Slytherin and him merely using Parseltongue to communicate. But then I guess he'd still need the Ancient Runes class for the tomes themselves.

Back to the matter of this fic, I do have to give props on the author's update frequency. Sure it has cliches, but then that's inevitable in even the best fics, but atleast it's readable, even if only as a guilty pleasure. 3/5

The Harry/Fleur has finally arrived, and it's been executed in a very strange way. From the pace of the fic up until now, and from the moves towards a Katie relationship, it looked like we were in for the long haul on the Fleur front. I approved of that plan a lot. More fics need to have Harry date multiple people and avoid the deadly "marry your first girlfriend" syndrome that affects so much fanfic.

Unfortunately, the plan was aborted and Harry/Fleur has been rushed into existence. After the long build up of dislike/indifference, not enough has been done to build affection and trust between them. At most I can buy them respecting each other and preferring each others' company out of dislike of all the alternatives. But we seem to have skipped several stages and gone straight to romance.

And it updated again, twice. Three chapters in 24 hours.

The good news: The Harry/Fleur isn't being rushed after all, and things have gone pear shaped on that front.

The bad news: it's a classic rom-com "miscommunication error" storyline. Half expecting there to be a race to an airport at the end.
