I was just about to point out Sesc's new story being there. I thought this guy was just putting up deleted stories.

 

I just don't understand what he could possibly be getting out of it, is it just because he's an asshole? Is he trying to troll? Or does he want to try and sell these stories?
What possible reason could he have for doing it?

Also while restricting access to WBA would most likely solve the issue, I would find it a bit annoying to be honest, since I do follow the WBA quite closely without participating much in the discussions.

 

Is it possible to examine which users in x-many hours examined your thread in the WBA, Sesc, and systematically profile who is most likely the one ripping stories off?

 

I was thinking something similar - there has only been 800 or so views in 4 years on my stolen story. If there's a way for our glorious overlords to see who those views were, and somehow narrow down possible suspects, and maybe cross-reference them to other wba-exlusive stories, it may be a way to figure out who's doing this and an IP.

 

Do they have a way of checking which users have viewed the thread within certain time periods? In that case who ever is doing this would have to have viewed Sesc's thread between Sesc posting the third chapter of his story, and the plagiarised stories being uploaded. That might narrow the amount of potential offenders down.

As far as we are aware, they have about 10 profiles on FFN (all of those are listed on the thread).

Any help regarding identification of stories is gladly accepted, since this'll help us to locate original authors of those stories. It takes literally hours upon hours to upload what's now totaled hundreds of thousands if not millions of words using the FFNet Document Manager when you combine all the plagiarist's accounts and copy-pasting all the meta-data into the story information. I would guess it's a user like samkar or Alexxxyyy who's been banned or a Methods of Rationality fan that feels asshurt.

His copy of Harry Potter and the Boy Who Lived has an extra 100k words that I'd love to know where he's got them from.

 

If there's identity theft involved, also that can and should be reported to FFN admins.

It's not the first time they attack an original author of a story they've stolen (or anyone accusing them of plagiarism by reviewing).

 

The Santi wrote them, obviously, he just didn't post them on FFNet. What did you expect the answer to be?

On top of just being an assholish thing to do, what does one actually gain from plagiarising fanfics? I know people have been doing it since year Dot, but what's the actual point? Trolling? Surely it's more than that.

Funny he tries to justify posting The Lie I Live by stating it was "abandoned" and he has permission from JBern to rewrite after "calling dibs."

Even if it were true, why would you want to rewrite someone else's story without making major changes to it or coming at it from a different POV?
