While I remember reading all the books in 2007 I never really got into the fandom. I only got into HP fandom in 2012 and since then I felt like this. That I missed out on everything and now HP fandom is dead and everyone has moved on. I feel bad for missing out on all cool discussions, shipping wars, theories, fanfiction, writing contests back then. Many fan sites don't even exist anymore and many writers have moved on. And the fandom was a lot bigger than now. It so nice reading the old threads and speculations that I feel bad for missing out on it. I also missing not reading classic fan fictions when they were written and having to catch up. I feel I missed the best party ever. And now its just pathetic and sad that I am so obsessed over Harry Potter while it ended back in 2007. I have been trying to move from HP but I just can't I just wish I could have been there during that era. I feel the only way I could make up for it is for JKR to continue Harry's story and for me to be there. But unfortunately JKR doesn't look like she will do that. So yeah is it sad and pathetic to still be obsessed about Harry Potter when it ended a decade ago in 2007?

    1) What is this, your diary?

    2) This forum is called Dark Lord Potter. Can you tell people you're a member of DLP without shame? There's your answer. We're as cool as Hell.

Edit: I thought this was another troll thread :/ Sorry.

Yeah DLP is awesome but is the only active HP forum anymore. Many big forums like Port key forums and Fiction alley forums don't even exist or not active anymore.

Stage play and new movie coming out next year, people still dissect canon in the Questions thread on this very site, and yet here's another one claiming that the fandom is dead...

Is the ASOIAF fandom dead during most of year? Do those people only wake up from their slumber for the ten weeks the show is airing?

Do you even know where you are right know?

HP lost some traction, but it's about as dead I am. And I guarantee a resurgence when Fantastic Beasts drops.

The Harry Potter fan fiction community has always dwarfed pretty much every other, even this long after the final book there are some really decent stories being developed. Plus are you really annoyed at having to read a buttload of classic HP fan fiction all at once rather than having to wait month for month for them to be written?

The shipping wars were always stupid as hell, I've not notice a massive drop of activity on this site over the last 7 odd years, there are still throries, discussions and fanfic being written right here.

To use your analogy it's like there has been a massive house party and all the hundreds of drunken people you didn't know all that well have left, but your real mates are still here having a pint and a laugh and helping you clean up. Which always ends up being a nicer experience than having a ton of trashed idiots rampaging through you're house, vomiting Harry/Draco Mpreg all down your stairs.

Lol. Funny thing about that is I've always felt Harry Potter fell in that rare category things like Star Wars and Star Trek did. A once a generation phenomenon that stoked the imaginations of kids and adult some of which are still hardcore fans years after the series ended. If we didn't have the internet to have a forum then we'd probably all be going to HP cons like the Trekkies did back in the day.

Guys have you noticed the Library. Most of the fics there were written in the past. Barely any fics written this year or last year have made it. Clearly indicates a massive decline in quality fan fiction with talented writers losing interest and moving on.

It's not the loss of talented writers that is the problem (though that is a problem), it's the increase in standards. What would be a 4 star story in 2007 might be considered a 2 star story today. But, it's been decided before that the DLP library isn't going to be retroactively purged of the magnitude of stories that are no longer readable, nor are the star ratings going to be reset.

    No?

Standards have risen, that's the major point. There's still a decent amount of bad FF published today, and back then, a lot would have made it into the library. I rather prefer the current state of affairs.

Also, if you "missed out" on all that came before, you have an entire Library to crawl through. It's not like you can't read old stories anymore.

"I missed out on people writing stuff!"

    "We have a library."

"But I missed out on the stuff that wasn't written."

    "...Okay."

Well I've never read a story written in the future. Not yet, anyway.

More seriously, I used to feel the same disappointment back in 2009 when I discovered fanfiction.

Now I'm quite glad that I have a lot of good fics that I don't need to wait for months to have a chapter. Plus, considering how annoyed I am every time a bullshit revelation on Pottermore forces me to reconsider my headcanon, I'd have blown up if I had started to really think about it before the books ended.

Sure, some good authors are finished with HP fanfiction, but some of those you're citing aren't. jbern updated less than 2 weeks ago. And I don't see how that would have changed had you gotten in the fandom years ago.

Guys what I mean is epics like The Live I've Lived, Wastelands of Time, Denerain Series aren't being written anymore because talented writers like that have lost interest and moved on. Seriously has any fic come out that matched these in the last few years. Guys even you can see the quality authors of DLP don't write anymore. DLP doesn't produce the quality stories it did before.

How many writers of the DLP 5-Starred and Featured Authors community even write anymore? Why have the DLP writing contests stopped? Even Jon is writing crossover than pure HP which signals a decline.

I think the only solution for a resurgence is JKR write another series on Harry so the lost fandom comes back.
