Luke what about the best writer in the fandom, Robst? He's still going strong.

Yes they are, true. But to have entire houses and even entire islands in them is just wrong.

Fair enough. I agree he was an ass regarding current authors who are writing, but I wasn't sure that everyone knew what he meant.

I posted just in case, since I do think there is a somewhat interesting nostalgia-driven conversation hidden in the topic. Not about DLP specifically, but about the widespread excitement/energy of that time.

But yeah, OP. Be a bit less irritating. plzkthxbai

Can I just take a minute to say how much I lol when people say the HP fandom is dead? Fandoms that large and that passionate don't die, especially when the source material is almost guaranteed to stand the test of time. At the most, they take power naps until whatever media outlet decides to kick them awake.

Take Star Wars, forty years old and the only other fandom in the history of fandoms that can match HP's size and global reach. How many giant dorks came out of the woodwork for Force Friday to buy out every single piece of Force Awakens merchandise? Hundreds of fucking thousands, that's how many.

Unless the entertainment industry suddenly decides they no longer like money (and how likely is that?), they will be milking the HP cash cow for decades. Shit, probably centuries.

The Future be like: "After all this time?"

    HP Fandom be like: "Always."

Luke You might have missed the Harry Potter fandom in that stage, but like others, I'd say there are still quite a few communities to be part of! You seem to have found the Harry Potter Reddit community, but there are also big communities on Tumblr with lots of discussion and creations (fiction, art, etc...see how often tags like these are updated: hpedit or see this search of Harry Potter art).

I'm not a part of that community, but for instance, the other day when I read about James Potter's father being named fucking Fleamont Potter, I went right to the Fleamont Potter tag on Tumblr and read a bunch of other fans' thoughts and reactions, and could have reblogged posts and started a discussion.

That said, I probably would have felt similarly to you if I'd missed out on the excitement of midnight release parties, the release of the movies, the time for speculation between books...indeed, I would feel that way about the ASOIAF fandom, but there are spectacularly long wait times between books, so I still get to enjoy the speculation and theories while also having missed a decade plus of the fandom.

Back to Harry Potter...I am curious how Fantastic Beasts will affect the fandom, and I wonder if there will be a lot of fanfiction for it, especially as it is a movie rather than a book.

I'm writing more original stuff these days.

But I had an urge to write a new HP story the other day, and I still may. It's a really clever idea, I think. But then I think on my unfinished work... Eh, we'll see.

Yes, you are. And you're writing this story you've been cockteasing on fanfiction.net for a while now:

You are writing this, dammit. You are.

See? You just posted, which means you're active. Plus you're on IRC a lot. That counts in my book.
