Characterisation? I like a Harry who doesn't listen to Dumbledore but has his own goals, his own faction and kills or uses dark magic to pursue his own goals.

His power level? I like Harry to be an equal to Voldemort and Dumbledore and not under them.

His Love Interests? I think Tonks is the best match for Harry because she is older than him, mature, an Auror and a Metamorphmagus. With her ability to change into any woman she is by far the hottest babe there is for him.

Intelligence? I like Harry who is very strategically minded and every move of his is calculated.

Beauty? I like Harry to be handsome.

Nature? I like Harry to be cool headed and very calculative.

Morality? I like Harry to be not completely immoral but ruthless in killing or using dark magic in pursuing his own goals.

Just asking what kind of Fanon Harry they like not canon. And yes Canon Harry sucks so I'd like Fanon Harry to be far away from him.

You must have hated the books than, because it was about Harry for like seven off them.

Oh god, why is this forum being blasted back to 2007? I feel a little more old and crotchety every time I see another of these threads/posts.

No I read the books before getting into fanfiction and realising that JKR had messed Harry up.

The closest thing to ideal Harry that is still recognizably 'Harry Potter' to me - rather than a stand-in merely bearing the name and role - is the Harry Potter in RustyRed's Ectomancer. Harry is willful, quick-on-his-feet, and surprisingly dangerous when he applies himself -- all qualities that canonical Harry displays and which Ectomancer realistically extrapolates. It shows that 'Harry Potter' doesn't need to be a phoenix animagus or the second coming of Merlin to be both readable and awesome.

That's not to say that I don't enjoy reading HP fanfiction that features a more 'mature' or more powerful Harry Potter, but I'm not going to pretend they're particularly true to the character we've seen in canon.

Have to agree with this Ectomancer, Forging the Sword and On the Way to Greatness Harry are all awesome while still being recognisable as Harry Potter.

They are only devoloping the canon one in a certain direction while focusing on his strenghts and changing him naturally through the experiences he makes in the storys.

I just wished Rowling would have done it this way developing Harry into someone truly special someone who could be called Voldemorts equal someday.

I don´t want to bash Rowling it is her story and I guess she just wanted to tell the story of a average kid who got into situations way over his head and still succeded with courage and a hell of a lot of luck.

But still it would have been nice if Harry would have been skilled enough to not only rely on deus ex machina (Elderwand, brotherwand connection), actually be curious about magic or atleast try to learn something to protect himself from the constant dangers he faces. Or just get some more charcter development he practically stayed the same from age 11 to 17 which is a bit unrealistic because almost everyone changes much over time and Harry should especially after everything he has been through.

It would have also been awesome if he actually defeated Voldemort in a way that would have not been a plan by someone else or just a complete coincedence. I don´t mean a straight up duell because a 17 year old should never be able to beat the most powerful dark wizard in centurys with such a experience gap but just to be able to hold his own for a time.

Both Ectomancer and OTWTG are awesome. Forging the Sword wanks Harry a bit too much for it to be realistic (wandless magic, complicated transfigurations in year four that Harry could never do in canon, philosophical debates every other chapter...), but it is a decent fic nonetheless.

Harry in Prince of the Dark Kingdom and The Phoenix and the Serpent are another couple of favorites. Harry's character development and coming of age is portrayed excellently in the latter.

Inverarity and Northumbrian write the most realistic adult versions of Harry, both in maturity and competence.

While the OP and his first post are retarded, there's a decent question hiding under the shitpile.

I don't have a single favorite, I have a few. POTDK is the "enhanced canon" that so many people look for like some Holy Grail. ABC Harry is a badass who's his father's son and it's a great combination. Harry from Sesc's Unatoned and Ruskbyte's All Problems Solved (sequel to Evil Be Thou My Good) are great noir/horror/grim'n'gritty (whatever you want to call them) examples. Harry from Renegade Cause is "enhanced canon", but taken in another direction that I also like. Lastly (going of the top of my head here), Swim's CR has an awesome insane Harry.

I couldn't choose one of them because I like a different one each day depending on what strikes my fancy. Today I'm in the mood for some Chris Nolan's Harry, because I'm trying to get back in the rythym of writing my own fic.

My ideal Harry Potter is five-feet and eleven-inches in height, with a build that is neither bulky or thin, but pleasantly slim. He has black hair, which is short and messy, almond-shaped eyes, which are bright-green, a straight-edged nose, high cheekbones, and angular jaw. He is good-looking, in a classic sort of way, not overly handsome, but not plain, either.

He is Light Wizard, in terms of ideals, but is not averse to using Black Magic. He is quick-witted and intuitive, a talented detective, and the best hunter of Dark Wizards.

He is not morally perfect, and has cheated on his wife a few times, including a long-standing affair with his best friend's wife, Hermione.

He is a family man, and loves his children, dearly.

    No -- I cannot.

I enjoy reading stories where the main character cheats on their spouse.

I like canon Harry, just a touch smarter. None of that dark/handsome/superboy nonsense.

True enough. Such stories are nothing more than the wish fulfillment of teenage boys who, need to get their heads out of their asses.

What do these abbreviations refer to? The ABC one in particular sounds interesting.
