    I tend to think of the stone as artificial rather than a rare natural item to be "found"

    Well that's certainly how its presented and hews closer to both canon and real life mentions. I just thought that it might be interesting to move in a different direction. Few words are spent on the stone itself in the books, so it is rather amenable to doing so.
