All that double standard shit pisses me off too - more with Alexis - I just ignore it and focus on the best parts of Castle.

That being the Castle, Ryan and Espo bantz

Edit: sigh, just saw the ep. They made a good point about him being a writer thing, but they long ago ruined any good feelings I had about the PI business making a return by giving the detective work to Alexis.

There is seriously no point to Castle as a character. They've gone back to the 70s handbook with the damsel in distress trope, made her a dude, then made him the main character.

Man, this show was so good for the first few seasons. Really makes me sad to see where it's gone since.

The only thing that can save the show for me now is Castle not putting up with the BS around him anymore.

Seeing as that won't happen... Well, sigh.

Not really feeling the double standard as strongly as everyone else; I tend to stop listening when Alexis is talking, so that might be part of it.

(She's spewing what amounts to manufactured drama on the part of the writers; since we know Beckett is on of the good guys and wont ultimately betray anyone, the tension has to be in the dynamics of the Cas-Ket ship, so Alexis has to reach out and tell the audience, "Hey, get tense over this!")

When Castle vanished, Kate was the only one who didn't give up on him, even though Ryan and Espo had their doubts; now she's disappeared, obviously in trouble, and he doesn't give up on her. I'm fine with that.

All that aside, the ep had some great moments; "Yeah, well, this sort of thing happens to me a lot."; The spider-bag, and the brief, chair-throwing escape; "Did you set your hair on fire again?"; Ryan and Espo cleaning the assassin bitch's clock; the complete lack of Gates and Martha; the hidden room and the gun-spring; the way the three guys were the focus.

I still watch Castle although I also have cooled off considerably to the series as a whole. I don't really have the same vitriol towards Alexis that you guys have, but I do wish she were utilized better.

In general, the conflicts seem to repeat by now. One of them has a secret they can't confide to the other to protect that person, we had this before, in the show, and seeing how often that particular plot point is used in tv-shows in general, I have no fondness for it.

Still, the show has its moments when it doesn't treat itself seriously at all. Like Castle's new office, his gun in desk moment and so on.

That gun launch to catch to fire sequence was beautiful. Rick did not shirk from what he had to do in the moment. One of his redeeming moments lately since the writers decided to have him vanish for so many months.

I loved the entire sequence don't get me wrong, it showed off the potential badass that Castle can be from time to time but was I the only one kinda expecting them to have him miss the catch?

Also I don't hate Alexis, I just don't like what they turned her into once Pi was introduced. I honestly think she's getting better now.

Mhm. But I believed that Rick would get it this time- the first showing was to establish the rig existed and have him flop when the only one there was someone to laugh it over with, now here it comes again, will he really fumble? With all his friends and his wife's lives on the line? Yeah, the writers could have done that with the second showing, but I trusted them not to.

Second on Alexis. And she is looking mighty fine these days too.

Well the reason I didn't have high hopes for that scene was the warehouse more than anything else. He resisted torture that would have left most people a fucking wreck, escaped all on his own and took down two master assassins and right when he was about to escape he suddenly got beaten like he stole something and had to have Beckett run in and save him. I liked the fuzzies between him and Beckett but honestly the rest of it was a big disappointment to me. What I was expecting more than anything else in the scene in the office was Castle to miss the catch but have Beckett use the distraction to take everyone out. Having it pan out the way it did was a very pleasant surprise for me.

As for Alexis, I know right? Molly Quinn is killing it.

Ah yes, fair enough. I could see that route have panning out, especially in earlier seasons. Glad it didn't, Rick should continue growing into his own.

I'm right with you, my problem is that they have had eight seasons now to let that happen and they seem to have forgone it nearly every time in favor of making Beckett the hero of the hour. I loved that scene primarily because we finally got to see Castle demonstrate skills we knew he had all along with no outside assistance in front of witnesses.

    Slutty Angel!Alexis is best Alexis.

Overall a fun episode. Lighter for the most part than the openers.

Agreed, Molly Quinn in that outfit was my favorite part of the episode.
It was so so, I tend to like the fun episodes but this one kinda had a lot of downsides for me. I thought the whole the military is funding another evil experiment thing was ham handed at best and I think the way they're portraying Castle is honestly getting worse. Its like one step forward and two steps back every single time he does something. Im going to keep watching but honestly the thing I want more than anything else right now is for this, "I know what Im doing and Castle is just going to get hurt" to violently explode in Becketts face. At some point she needs to have her bullshit come back to bite her in the ass.

    Who's writing this shit?!

I mean, Castle has never been True Detective, but this breakup literally feels like a genuine Shark Jump. Especially since, the way I understood it, I thought Beckett was running and going underground, not going on with her life (and ignoring her captain duties?) as per usual.

Because Castle is totes safe from any retaliatory action her investigation might incur by putting 'space' between them.

Whatever. I don't even care anymore. It's up to Ryan and Espo to carry the show now.

And god damnit I want a bubble cigar!

    Yes.

I dunno what I found more offensive, the insinuation that Castle was being a baby because he misses his wife, or that a captain was still solving homicide cases, presumably leaving the real captain admin/ political work to the House Elves.

Ugh, seriously. I'm not joking. The premise for their seperation (because they're not broken up, y'know) is that she's protecting Castle from the very bad ppl she's now obsessing over.

They're way too stupid to now see their connection because they're no longer banging or co-habitating.

Let us ignore the random extra in this ep that knows the two are married by sight (obv not name).

If you had issues with plot holes and bad writing before this season... Well, good luck with this one.
