What would you do with your very own vial of Felix Felicis? For me I think it would be using it to win the lottery.

I'd go on a road trip and play the lottery at as many stores as possible.

My understanding of how the Felix Felicia worked in canon is that your plan on drinking the potion and what happens afterwards don't necessarily have anything to do with each other. So instead of winning the lottery you might end up going to the gas station, finding the love of your life behind the till, and learning that material possessions aren't what they're cracked up to be.

I mean Harry's plan wasn't to accidentally break up Ginny and Dean or go see Hagrid about a giant dead spider to get Slughorn wasted.

Yeah as I read it Felix doesnt give you unlimited powers to win.

It just pushes you to do the best possible thing at the exact right moment.

It can make you choose to stand in the one point in a room that doesnt get hit with shrapnel when a bomb goes off. But it can't make the bomb not go off.

Such as choosing the right numbers for the lottery?

I mean, yes, there's a chance you'll find the love of your life instead. But there's surely a reason why Felix Felicis is banned in wizarding competitions. There's a good chance you'll win the lottery too.

This. The trick would be to drink it at such a time that you can either use it to accomplish a lot of stuff, or to drink it when you've got something massively important to do that might take you a while.

I'm not sure about this. Harry did ultimately get what he set out to get when he drank the potion. He still got the memory from Slughorn, even if the method wasn't anything he'd anticipated beforehand. I see it more as if you want to get rich when you drink it, you might not win the lottery but you might stumble onto some buried pirate treasure and get rich anyway.

Stuff like breaking up Ginny and Dean was just a bonus that you could get anyway.

Surely the luckiest you could be would be to find the Lost Fountain of Felix Felicis, at least the first time you take the potion?

But yeah, I get the feeling that the potion only has an impact on things the drinker wants - whether consciously or not.

Because the luckiest thing that could have happened to Harry at that point would have been for Voldemort to get drunk, think about where he kept his horcruxes, and to broadcast those memories to Harry. Also, for Cho and Ginny to need his help in determining whether they prefer penis or not.

The moment it touched my lips, I'd be thrown back in time to avoid all the mistakes I made in my life.

I think it's more along the lines that whatever you start to do the potion will nudge you in the right direction for it. It's not a Luck-in-specific-circumstances potion. It's a generic luck potion that makes everything go right for you while it lasts.

I think that the potion does it's best with what it has to work with. That being the current situation and the environment. It can't create things out of thin air, but it can make the best out of any given situation.

So, I'd make sure I was a high-stakes situation before drinking it, such as participating in something way above my skill level, applying for a something I'm wildly unqualified for, etc.
Chances are I wouldn't accomplish what I'd hope for before drinking it, but the potion would either make me succeed or find me the best alternative while mitigating potential backlash.

The ideia of drinking the potion before entering a Casino in Vegas may be a way to raise the odds of winning money with the potion, but, as said before, the potion works in mysterious ways and I think its consequences are kind of unpredictable. You could drink it, go watch a movie a find a winning lottery ticket on your seat or something like that, who knows?

If I may ask this question, what is you guys' opinions on its possible collateral effects?

Man, I'd use it to set a record of some sort, which to me sounds like more fun. Or to do something completely insane like climb El Capitan in Yosemite with no ropes.

And again, as everyone else says, whatever you set out to do may well not be what comes of it. And as far as we've seen, there are no downsides to Felix that are mentioned in canon (unless I'm forgetting something).

The downside is that excessive consumption will kill you. It's also incredibly difficult to make and if made wrong it will kill you.

Drinking it excessively causes extreme risk taking behavior.

Other than that, Felix is OP, yes.

While it's not canon at all, I do like the idea that taking too much of it results in some kind of karmic backlash down the line. Have too many runs of magic-induced good luck, and the universe balances it out by making you have a day of absolutely awful luck where everything that can possibly go wrong does.

You could nerf/balance it like that, I suppose, by saying it draws in your future luck, that you would have otherwise sprinkled over your life and concentrates it into the hours you are under the influence of the potion and succeed in that situation but have to do with much less luck from then on.

Would explain why most people won't seek it out.
