Dumbledore wakes up after death to find himself next to a young Harry Dresden who is fleeing from his mentor.

It is in Dumbledore's POV, and it works. I think he has captured Dumbledore's voice quite well. Strange intelligent old man. Plus, his run in with the fae is quite comical.

It is only 4 chapters so far, so I won't rate it, but it could easily be a 4/5 or 5/5 if it keeps up this pace.

I actually read this. Was decent enough to pass the time, but nothing really jumped out at me.

The morality debate was kind of meh though in the last few chapters. Author's confusing Free Will and Agency and making Snape be scared he's taking people's free will away.

Nothing really innovative or outstanding, though I do like the giant Common Room duel.

When a Veela Cries by EC Scrubb -- anyone want to give me an actual summary of what the fic is about? The fic's summary is beyond useless lol.

It's been awhile since I read it, but I remember the premise being something like:

Remember how in Darth Marrs's Firebird series where after the third task Voldemort sends a bomb back to the stadium? Something similar happens in this story: think massive, coordinated strike against the British wizarding world, who have assembled for the third task of the TWT. Dumbledore dies, but not before tasking Fleur to use her special brand of loving to rescue Harry from the Dark Side® or some such. Relationship angst ensues. Lots of Veela powers and plus ups are revealed. Harry trains at Durmstrang with Viktor and some Veela. After suffering a personal loss (or perceived loss), he returns to England to wage a one-man guerrilla war against Voldemort and his toadies.

I sort of stopped following it after that. It's probably worth reading once. I recall it's being generally well written, though the bleak tone can be a bit wearying in spots.

My main worry here is that he seems to be setting up Dresdenverse magic as less impressive overall, since Dumbledore doesn't get tired from casting magic.

True, Dumbledore is unlikely to call down a satellite from orbit and he probably doesn't have an island-leveling Death Curse, but in terms of sheer combat capability, being able to use magic like Fiendfyre at whim without tiring makes him immensely dangerous. Combined with apparition and conjuration/transfiguration, he can just plain outlast virtually any wizard in the Dresdenverse. (He'll still need to watch out for sympathetic magic though)

However, it might be that wizards aren't the main threat Dumbledore will be dealing with. He got a pretty chilly reception from Lea after all. In which case, the power differential won't be as jarring. After all, there are entities significantly more deadly than Wizards to deal with...

This is really good. Dumbledore reads like Dumbledore, like this crafty, dangerous, and grandfatherly Dumbledore. The Leah and Dumbledore scene was so far the best. The Faery was portrayed differently from how Butcher does it, but I liked it better.

The writing is solid, I didn't detect any grammar problems. I had to use a dictionary once or twice, which _never_ happens (I'm not native).

Gawd, FF Authors and their crappy summaries. :sherlock:

Backgound: Voldemort sent his few remaining Death Eaters to recruit in some of the worst magical prisons around the world. They massacre Hogwarts during the third task, killing all three headmasters and almost everyone else.

The fic follows Harry as he struggles with the prophecy (Dumbledore tells him with his dying breath), his fall into the dark arts aided by the Horcrux, and balancing that with his growing love for Fleur, and her love for him.

There's a massive amount of world-building (Veela, especially), Dark Arts philosophy (based on Augustinian Greater vs. Lesser Good, rather than the Greater Good cliches of ff), growth of magical ability (yes, I use magical cores, but more as a phrase to identify magic inside a person, rather than an actual physical place like the heart or liver) and angst. Oh, God, the angst. But, it's there to make the reader believe Fleur would sell herself completely to the idea of rescuing Harry later on. Oh, and a smart-ass Gabrielle.

Word of warning: there are probably four significant jumps in writing quality throughout the fic. So, read chapters 1-6 with a merciful eye.

I'd also be interested to hear your thoughts on some of the different concepts I introduce (Dark Magic, controlling one's magic, Veela world, Dumbledore's pedagogy, etc).

Beyond average. At least competent writing style. Nothing to write home about. Nice time waster is the nicest thing I can say about it.

I didn't say anything about the summary, because I had no problem with it. It summarizes the fic perfectly. It tells me everything I need to know about it.

Yeah I have to agree with this. Read it about 3 days ago but didn't bother posting it since rehash material is generally shunned.

It's just very high quality writing for fanfiction. It's not original but it's still a good read, it does exactly what it tells you it's going to do from the summary and doesn't reach much further than that.

There are some changes from canon, it isn't like the events are 100% identical, and the ending gives hope for a far more original sequel. Though the author warned that a sequel could take quite some time to appear.

If it had been any other pairing I wouldn't have touched it. But considering the extreme lack of well written/good H/F stories I picked it up. It was worth my time to read but again, it is a rehash as the summary says.

Once/if the sequel comes out, if it turns out how I expect, the series may actually be worth recommending properly.

Okay, so everyone is saying it's a rehash but can someone give more details? Is the only thing different the tone of conversation? Is there a divergence point? Spoiler tag that shit if you want but for the love of all that is holy, give me some more details before I commit to a 130k read.

The summary is one of my favorite parts. I'm not sure how it will compare with the sequel though: "Euphoria 2: A generic year 5 canon rehash fic featuring Harry/Fleur"

Anyways, the story exists for one sole reason, and that is to be a year 4 H/F that doesn't fall prey to any of that stupid shit that plagues the fandom, such as changing their ages or veela bonding crap.

Yeah pretty much this. It's just a much more solid and realistic H/F fic than 95% of the garbage out there. The differences from canon aren't really going to be significant until we see the sequel so don't read it for those. Unless H/F is your thing I wouldn't bother reading it. If it is however, definitely recommend.

I loved that story while it lasted, but that ending just wasn't satisfying. I expected more interaction between Harry and Fleur at the end of the story and some conversations were very long in last three or four chapters.

Just imagine a GoF story in which tasks that are done differently and there is romance inside. It also feels like fix it story at times.
    I don't think there is.

Here are a couple of fics.

The Dark Corners of the Earth: The war was supposed to end with the fall of Voldemort. Instead, it not only kept going but steadily escalated into a full-scale wizarding world war as two people who were thought to be dead pit their armies against each other. Now Hermione is desperately trying to find a way to save the wizarding world from itself… and from that which lies among the dark corners of the Earth.

A Hermione/Bellatrix story. Some Lovecraftian elements. War goes on after Voldemort's death with Snape and Bellatrix leading opposite camps. Bellatrix isn't bat shit crazy because reasons. Writing is decent for the most part, and Bellatrix's character voice isn't bad. Hermione's characterization is fine. Bella's characterization and the romance are unconvincing, but that is to be expected.

I might have given it a three, but I didn't like the last couple of chapters and the author's constant use of 'the Dark Witch' to refer to Bellatrix and 'the young witch' to refer to Hermione annoys me intensely. So, 2/5. You might like it better if you're a fan of Hermione.

Second Chances: Ten years after the battle of Hogwarts, Hermione Granger works for Britain's Immigration Offices, trying her best to forget her magical life and move on from the damage the war has done to her. Enter Auror Weasley with an assignment that will drag both Hermione and him back into that world she longs to leave behind. EWE

This one is pretty decent. There are occasional typos and there are PoV switches without scene breaks in the first handful of chapters (it is fixed later on), both of which can be rather annoying. Other than that this is a fairly enjoyable story which I'm keeping an eye on.

Harry Potter and the Prince of Slytherin by The Sinister Man
What if Harry were a Slytherin? What if everyone thought his twin brother was the BWL? What if someone tried to do something creative and innovative with the two most overused cliches in HP fanfic? AU, currently in Year Two

Yes, that pretty much sums it up. Except, not really. The first thirty or so chapters are downright annoying and incredibly cliché-ridden. I don't really know how I managed to get through, it must have been something between guilty pleasure and the "it's so awful I can't look away"-effect.
Jim Potter, Harry Potters brother, is portrayed as basically the stupidest individual you could ever imagine (if it wasn´t for his father) while Harry of course gets everything right.
He is in every way superior, much brighter, much more successful and much more popular.
So far, these are the reasons why not to read this. I most likely forgot most additional reasons, however, I'm fairly inexperienced at giving detailed critics. I also can't really judge the realism of the dialogue as English is not my mother tongue.

But, the author himself seems to have noticed that. He suddenly tries (with more or less success) to explain the completely logically flawed and clichéd crap his characters have done before.
OK, he does it with another cliché: A prophecy about an "evil" Potter. There's still a reason I didn't consider this for the library ^^
But the second arc, "Harry Potter and The Secret Enemy", suddenly, at least in my opinion, becomes quite interesting and readable.
If the author keeps this up and solves his open riddles in an adequate way this could grow into a fairly decent read.

While most of his characters, for example his Lockhart, have really nothing to do with canon, he manages to make his newer additions seem quite fascinating.
It is also interesting that his hollow cliché-vessels have shortly developed something you could actually call a personality. Partly, those personalities are over-dramatized but at least original and far more interesting than they were before.

Oh, and he, at least in my memory, completely avoids Dumbledore-Bashing, which is always a huge plus in my book.

    To sum this up:
The first thirty or so chapters are really a challenge to read, and not in a positive way. But it slowly gets better and the author might manage to make this a really fascinating story if he keeps up creating original ideas. His update-rate is very stable.
However, with most characters he doesn't even try to stick to the canon.
Rating: 1,5/5 for the first thirty-five chapters.
4/5 for the last twenty chapters.
At the moment it's in the 2/5 section for me, if the author can keep the quality of the last chapters, 3/5. As it indeed looks promising at the moment, I think it is post-worthy here.

First post here, if there are any mistakes, please criticize me. Oh, and I read the beginning of this quite a while ago so my memory might have tricked me at some points, but I wanted to at least encourage you to read this nevertheless.
