When Dipper and Mabel Pines get sent to their great-uncle Stan's shop in Gravity Falls, Oregon for the summer, they think it will be boring. But when Dipper find a strange journal in the woods, they learn about some strange secrets about the town. Welcome to Gravity Falls. Just north of Normal, west of Weird.

Its hard to believe, but a cartoon that airs on the Disney Channel is one of the best things currently on tv.

I don't know how this show gets away with half of the things it does. The Disney censors must be asleep on the job. I love it.

Anyone else here a fan of this show?

-"I'm taller than you by a millimeter."

-"First of all, no one even uses millimeters, so you're only taller in Canada."

    Yes, love it.

I think Hirsch has said his process with the censors is something like, add a few obvious no-gos and a few maybes and let them axe the obvious ones and call it even (thus falling for his clever ruse ad allowing the few maybes that Hirsch wanted in).

The show itself is pretty great for a disney cartoon and the humor is usually dead on, but Hirsch can flounder a little on the story side. The overarching plot is decent, but a lot of the one-offs are pretty shallow.

One of my favorite cartoons on air right now. Every single character is great, the music and animation is good, and every episode manages to make me laugh. Some of the episodes in the first season were kinda weak, but every episode of season two has hit.

I just wish the scheduling was better. :(

You know, I just found out about this show a few days ago and quickly caught up. Now I find out that I'll have to wait until Summer for the next episode. Why?!

One episode that I am shocked made it past the censors was Northwest Mansion Mystery. I wonder how kids react to episodes like this.

I know some people who like this, but I've only seen a couple episodes. It's on my to-do list.

Season 2 has been much stronger than season 1 so far. Gideon never interested me much as a villain. I think there's only been one absolute dud so far. The overarching story is probably the best thing about Gravity Falls, and some of the one-offs are pretty great (although not all).

I'm kind of curious what Gravity Falls under the CN banner would have been like, but Disney's doing a pretty ok job with this one.

It's incredibly rare for a cartoon to have both character and plot development while still retaining the irreverence and humour which provides the initial draw. Things progress at a slow enough rate that we get tantalizing hints at the overall story while being entertained on the way.

There are plot episodes and character episodes, but the character episodes don't often feel like filler, which is the biggest issue with a lot of mystery/villain of the week style shows.

I love this show. And the theme tune is awesome.

I've watched season 1 while season 2 is on my too watch list.

I suspect Gravity Falls would have been so much better if it wasn't on Disney.

For those of you who don't know, there is a huge collection of shorts on youtube and they're all pretty fantastic.

Okay, I just stumbled on the most MIND-BLOWING theory. I mean, a lot of Gravity Falls theories are conspiracy driven and reach pretty far, but this theory makes sense, and that's what scares me.

    Link to theory.

It's the five-fingered hand thing that really grabs my attention. Being a vampire is a damn good explanation, though it brings up how vampires work in Gravity Falls. I'm trying to think, have we seen Gideon outside during daylight? There was the shrinking episode, but I can't remember if that day was sunny or cloudy.

So, it looks like Alex Hirsch Bill Cipher will be hosting an AMA on Reddit on April 1st, 11:30pm PST. He announced this via possession / twitter, which is giving me Marble Hornets flashbacks.

I'm very interested to hear what he has to say.

I'd never heard of this show until I saw this thread about 2 hours ago. Out of pure curiosity I looked up a random episode on Youtube and put it on, and while I'm not hooked or anything I have to admit that it's the first time in a long while that a cartoon aimed of this nature has kept my interest for an entire episode.

I was even impressed by the twist at the end of the episode I watched, which was Season 2 Episode 7 "Society of the Blind." I don't know if I'll start at the beginning and watch the whole thing or not, but it's something to keep in the back of my mind now to watch.

    Thanks for the rec.

Pretty interesting, but the post makes very little mention of the episode 'Gideon Rises' for a reason.
Not only is he shown in the sun on numerous occasions during the episode, and while Hirsch could easily bend the vampire lore around this, he also has McGucket build him a huge robot and a massive amount of surveillance buttons. If he were a vampire, these things would most likely be unnecassary for a number of possible reasons. Not only that, but in the episode, Gideon calls Budd 'Father' (just checked and Budd continues to refer to him as boy) and while their relationship is hilariously backwards, it isn't proof of anything other than Gideon's intelligence and psychosis combining to make a very unmanagable child, supernatural or not.

All right, I'm hooked (and the intro is my no#1 track this past week).

It's as if Eerie Indiana was made into cartoon with less on the creepy side and more on the "guess which movie/book we are hinting at right now".

This show is amazing. It's really kicking my ass that the next part of Weirdmageddon isn't until the 23rd. These last three episodes have been ridiculously good.

But also: how is this show rated TV-Y7? There's some pure, uncut nightmare fuel in this show sometimes.
