I'm willing to bet this has already been listed in a previous thread, but I just ran into it yet again.

People who spell choking as chocking.

If you are choking on food, there is something caught in your airway and you are struggling to breathe.

If you are chocking something, you are placing a small block (usually triangle shaped) in front of a wheel to prevent it from rolling away!

Whenever I see someone who uses the correct form of the word, that alone bumps up their story by one star because of its rarity.

I know the "Soul Bond" pet peeve has been talked about but let me mention my anguish at TWIN LINKS

I left a review on a FFN story that I read out of boredom. It was being updated often enough for me to leave a review. I warned the author against the trite "soul bond/twin link" plot device and this was the response.

OH BOY I BET THIS AUTHOR IS GOING TO GIVE ME A MATURE, CONSTRUCTIVE RESPONSE GIVEN THIS START

Gee, guess I should just leave "Nice chapter, update soon" instead of an actual, thoughtful review from now on.

Whoah, with that solid logic, how can I argue, oh great writer?

I thought that the worst thing about soul bonds wasn't only the "mind speak", but the "shared magic reservoirs". I guess when Fred died, George lost half of his magic.

Yada yada. She went on about another criticism of mine but damn. Had to share.

How about FanFiction authors who can't take criticism? There are a lot of Authors out there who are constantly praised for writing shit, but whenever someone attempts to provide thoughtful critiques they are immediately shut down by both the Author and the Legions of Followers.

Of course not. It's their story, they can do whatever they want.

It's the attitude that they could not possibly be wrong, cliched, or flawed, in their plot.

Plus, like I said, I think "twin bonds" are just as sinful as "soul bonds".

And this IS a pet peeves thread....

Hate it when the author writes something along the lines of, "Harry glared so coldly that it made Dumbledore feel shivers down his spine." :wall:

Hey, don't knock it until you've tried it. There's quite a few great stories for Naruto - enough that the primary reason I started following the source material was just to read the fanfiction.

Everything I know about the second half of Naruto comes from fanfiction.

Yeah, diving deep into the bowels of fanon clichés that is Naruto fanfiction can easily give headaches, but by far, the civilian council is the worst.

The civilian council puts an injunction against the Hokage (who could singlehandedly decapitate all of them instantaneously), cause a massive riot and roam around in drunken mobs, raping and beating poor Naruto.

Sarutobi then grows balls and kills all of them, shouting for everyone to leave Naruto alone.

The Kyuubi then, all the while calling Naruto 'kit', offers Naruto a deal where he can be her (yes, her) sex slave and minion. Naruto miraculously gains infinite power and takes revenge on the evil civilians, then creates a harem out of every girl in the village.

The above is literally a story summary for thousands, I repeat, THOUSANDS of Naruto fanfics. Pathetic, really. I do of course appreciate the well-created ones that I stumble upon, once in a while.

The civilian council is the manipulativeDumbledore of the Naruto fanfiction community. And all that entails...

New pet peeve: There is no current Darth Darth Binks fanfiction good enough to satisfy me, and that fucking reddit thread has gotten me really focused on it.

Yep, and the civilian beatings are the abusive Dursleys, basically.

Ron/Hermione bashing are somewhat analogous to Sasuke/Sakura bashing. The personality changes that Naruto goes through in most of those fics are similar to the personality changes that indy!Harry goes through.

The magical trunks vs. the Shadow Clones. Getting a haircut and tattoos vs. not wearing orange anymore. Joining the Department of Mysteries vs. joining ANBU. Taking out a bunch of Death Eaters like they're first years vs. roflstomping Akatsuki. Participating in the 3 stages of the Triwizard Tournament as super!Harry vs. participating in the 3 stages of the Chunin Exams as super!Naruto.

The cliches and tropes are literally the same.
