Not necessarily. Sure, Jaune gives more orders at this point but mostly, because he needs to. Team RWBY uses plenty of combo attacks, their members break off one on one fights pretty early to launch combo attacks without needing much direction by now. Not to mention that they have prepared combos already, like what they used in the fight against Torchwick and his mech. So, yeah, Ruby gives orders when she needs to but it seems against this team at least, she didn't.

JNPR fights mostly solo until Jaune gives an order otherwise.

Yeah, I'm with Nemrut on that.

Everyone on Team RWBY knows exactly what they need to do, where they need to be and what each other are planning. They don't really need words - they can read the flow of battle and each other well. A good example would be in their first real team fight ever in Chapter 8, where all Ruby had to say was "I have a plan" and just about everyone was able to understand precisely what she wanted from them at any time.

Where Team JNPR seem to fight individually, and require specific practiced tactics and orders to do team plays. Even in that Chapter 8 battle, Jaune is very specifically telling each of his members when to attack.

Like in most high level team sports, they yell a lot less than they do at lower levels. Because everyone generally can read the game a lot better and know what to expect from others, and what is expected of themselves.

Caught up now, the opening of Ep 1 had me tearing up a bit when the birds made Monty's signature.

I'm looking forward to more arena battles, and Yang and Weiss for doubles surprised me but is an exciting team-up.

Not sure what I think of the tournament narrowing down further and further as it goes, it's a fresh take on brackets that's intriguing

    Well, I missed this thread.

I'm liking it a lot. The quality has seriously improved. I'm also hoping we'll see a new wave of good fanfics. I haven't read anything decent for a while.

    I've got a fan theory:

In Vol 2, the White Fang had gotten their hands on the latest Altasian mech - it was so new even the Atlas military hadn't gotten them yet. So how did Cinder get the mech to give to Torchwick to give to the White Fang? Apparently the Mech was designed (either fully or partially) by the Schnee Dust Company.

My theory is that Cinder works Weiss' father. Mr Schnee is using Cinder through Torchwick to move the White Fang up from minor terrorist organization to full-blow military threat. The military then steps in who need more Schnee band weapons ($$$), it obliterates the faunus rights movement and furthermore disenfranchises the faunus so Mr Schnee can further strip them of their rights and use them as slave essentially labour (I assume Blake was using a euphemism when she described them as slaves. I assume they're treated poorly and get far lower wages but aren't actual slaves - think think African-Americans in the 1930s).

Am I the only one who thinks fight choreography has completely gone down the tubes? Even ignoring the "handheld camera" kind of vibe they are going for where the camera shakes around a lot, they have been pretty awful. Compare anything we've seen so far this season with the food fight, for example, or this complete work of art. Or any of the fights in V1-2 really. What the hell happened?

Really enjoyed the new episode. The fight scene was top notch and the conflict between Ozpin's group and Cinder's conspiracy is getting very interesting.

Difficult to replace that guy, but the whoever is currently responsible for the fights suuucks. There are some good ideas going, but the fights lack all sense of urgency. You can't really see what goes on half the time, either.

Other than that, and some more silly anime bullshit that had no need to be there, it was a good episode. Some interesting revelations, a good cliffhanger. It was kinda cute to see Weiss spazz out about her big sister.

Not as cute as Ruby hanging out with Qrow, mind. So quite a bit of good, some bad. Looking forward to the next one.

I don't know, I think it worked for this fight. They seemed (or at least Crow seemed) to be toying with each other, enjoying the reactions of the other. It actually felt rather fluid, rather than the 'stop and wait turn' model that's been described.

The fight was very precise which fits what I think of Winter and somewhat fits Qrow winding her up.

Liked the episode, although now I wonder where Winter fits both, within her family and within the military. She seems to be a right/left hand woman of Ironwood but not quite high-ranking/trusted enough to be left in the council. Whether that is because of her own deeds or her family situation is as of yet unclear.

Similarly, it's unclear as to why Weiss is the heiress and not her, seeing that it usually tends to be the older child. Falling out with the father? Weiss access to money got cancelled due to her not picking up her phone, and Winter has of yet to mention anything family related, so it may very well be that both children are distanced from their father/parents (although we have no idea if the mother is still alive, I like the headcanon that the mothers name is Elsa)

The fight was cool and Qrow was entertaining, although, the fact Ruby was not at all surprised that Qrow was drunk as hell, at Glynda's comment do indicate that he is really always drunk. Makes me feel bad for the girls, really. Mothers dead or absent, Taiyang probably depressed/reclusive and Qrow is a chronic drunk.

Still, we got more info on the whole shadow war thing, curious as to whether Cinder is in the big leagues, presumably with Raven or if this is her audition, so to speak, to enter the big leagues. Or something else entirely.

    So yeah, solid episode.

I never really felt Cinder was what they have in mind for a big bad, and think this episode supports it. She always felt more like a stepping stone to the big bads like Orochimaru was, once shes defeated a Pein or Madara will appear.

The fact that it might be an audition to their higher ranks is a good point, whether she took it upon herself or not remains to be seen. I don't think we have seen anyone yet who could qualify for what they have in mind as the big bad, except maybe Raven, but there are doubts there if shes even bad at all.

Gotta support the fights are kinda boring atm. Disappointing that even when team RWBY fought Ruby didn't get much screen time, not really enjoying this tournament arc to be honest, the fights are meh and like true RWBY fashion the story is moving along slowly.

Definitely enjoying Qrow. Heres to hoping there some Qrow fics instead of all the Xande- sorry Jaune fics atm.

I need more RWBY now. >.<

I think considering Cinder's name fitting the fairy tale theme, she'll probably become a good guy. >_>

I think she is going down the "doing the wrong things for the right reasons" sort of path and not "mwahahaha, I'm evil", so, I could see common ground being reached at some point.

Then fact he's a chronic drunk yet still a teacher says to me it has something to do with his semblence. We were discussing it on /co/.

I also agree something must have happened to cause a falling out between Winter and her father. I think she's a military huntress while everyone else doesn't seem military. Maybe something specific to Atlas?

Lol the best moment in ep 3 was when Qrow told Winter to get back in the kitchen while Jimmy nodded along.

Finally got around to watching the episode. Absolutely loved it.

Compared to the previous fight scenes, I thought this one worked perfectly. Got across the energy and fluidity that had been lacking in the previous ones. I imagine it's probably easier doing a 1v1 rather than a 4v4, but hopefully it's also a sign of improvement in Monty's replacement.

Loved that entire exchange of "He was drunk!" "He's always drunk" and reactions of everyone in the form of facial expressions after that. Qrow is awesome fun in general.

Also, hoping Cinder isn't the big bad. She just seems too small to be the "darkness threatening the kingdoms" in a world full of monsters looking to exterminate humanity.
