Faction quests are really awesome. Not going to spoil anything aside from saying that the Railroad's quests are pretty fucking cool and clever (starts with "The Freedom Trail" which was incredibly nifty) and same with the Brotherhood.

    Also, faction opposition -

From what I can tell a looooot of the factions are going to be incompatible. The Brotherhood explicitly states that the destruction of the Institute is their primary goal, and their fanatical anti-synth stance means they don't see eye to eye with the Railroad.

Meanwhile for the Railroad, if the Prydwen has arrived you can directly hear Desdemona give a speech to HQ about how the Brotherhood is their enemy, and that Tinker Tom will be in charge of formulating a plan to deal with them. Also, their whole point is to oppose the Institute and all.

I haven't had any Institute quests yet but apparently they exist. Obviously, that's going to put you at odds with... well, everyone.

Not sure about the Minutemen quests, I haven't done any for them yet. I feel like they wouldn't be opposed to anyone aside from maybe the Institue, but the Brotherhood is pretty dickish to the people of the Commonwealth, so you never know. Maybe someone else can say?

Haven't encountered any other factions yet.

The way I see it, it seems like in New Vegas, you can play all the sides (as I am at the moment) but eventually there will be a point where you have to double down. It will probably be related to the finale of the main quest in some way, but there's no way to tell. Seems like Bethesda learned something from NV at least.

For me, I'm taking a hardline anti-synth line with my first character (because I figured most people would go the opposite way) which means that if push comes to shove I'm probably going to side with the Brotherhood. Sadly this means I may, at some point, have to clear out the Railroad with a suit of power armor and a flamer along with the Institute. I'll try not to enjoy it.

The Brotherhood quest line has some pretty amazing twists.

    Also, regarding institute quests:

You can join the Institute after you infiltrate it through the main quest line.

I debated for like.... weeks whether I should get this or not. Ended up getting it. I'm not a fan of shooters, sci-fi, post-acopalyctic, survival/scrounger type of games, so I was really, really leery about this game... the setting just didn't interest me much. Tried on the first day, two hours, gave up. Tried again on the second day, two hours, gave up again, was thinking about just dropping it. But then that entire evening and night my brain was basically burning thinking about this game, so today being my third day, I tried again, and now I've happily been playing for five hours.

Took a while to get and get used to the system. Modding my own gun helped a lot. I still hate the post-apocalyptic, broken world, but I can enjoy the gameplay. I'm currently some sort of a rifleman sniper with no stealth, lol.

Yeah, Bethesda games are kinda like that.

I just couldn't get into Oblivion when it first came out but I tried FO3 and something just clicked, and been playing and lovin' them ever since. The freedom to do whatever can be a bit exhausting at first.

I have no idea why you got it in the first place then, lol. But I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Any tips for me? It's installing as we speak. The video about S.P.E.C.I.A.L is golden.

Try and put in some points into Lockpicking and hacking first. Thats how you get the good stuff.

Why the hell can't I put doors in doorframes? I mean the ones that already exist in houses like in Sanctuary Hills, not the doorframe wall you can set down. I've had to jury-rig these weird fucking additions on the front just to have a proper door.

Also, running wires for electricity's an ugly endeavor. Or maybe I'm doing it wrong.

I should have preordered this game. It's more expensive now and I want it so badly, haha.

I think it's because the door is part of the repairs done by your settlers. Anyway I'd you're having trouble with power, just hang it up on the roof. It's less ugly. I'd throw in some screenshots later.

Jjf88 if you're planning to mess around with settlements, put some points into charisma because local leader is crucial. I wished I learned this before leaving it at only a single point.

If anyone is having trouble finding adhesive, make some vegetable starch at cooking stations and deconstruct it, you'll get 5 units of adhesive out of it. :)

Huh, that's pretty handy, thanks. Seems like every weapon mod requires that shit.

I had no games to play, hadn't had for a while. Fallout has a pretty huge following, and I got kinda interested as I kept seeing S.P.E.C.I.A.L in video game fics. Kept seeing the game everywhere, got affected by the hype, and eventually caved and tried it out. And I did like Mass Effect, so there was a precedent.

Now, when do I start getting better guns than pipe trash? Super Mutants and the like are getting a bit tough.

Kleo in Goodneighbour has some good hardware if you aren't finding any. If you're exploring and picking up whatever quests you get and doing them you should get some good gear.

If you want a good gun for early and middle game, head to the Cambridge police station. It's on the way to Diamond City from Sanctuary (you'll pick up a radio broadcast) and find Paladin Danse and accept his Call to Arms.

    Uh bring Power armor.

I read about a quick way to get a very good gun(though it has limited ammo), go back to the Vault 111 with Dogmeat and command him to mess with the Master level safe that's there.

    You get your gun.

I haven't tried it yet though.

Thanks for the tips. I've just finished clearing Coverga station. That was a pain. The turrets are a real pain in the ass, everyone else is fine. I'm unsure how I want to proceed because I usually play Fantasy RPGs. Probably going to use a lot of pew-pew as opposed to stealth. Going to Diamond City now, my power armour is dead so I'll need to find a new power core from somewhere.
