I want a fic in which Harry goes to get sorted and the sorting hat tells him that he's not even close to the most special person he's ever sorted.

In that fic, I think indy!Harry would get his ass handed to him in the great hall by Albus Dumbledore, all the while the man trying to be understanding about his situation and making analogies to himself in his youth.

My new peeve: overuse of the word "shall" usually by Dumbledore or by purebloods. Because of course this is the only way to display one's superiority or just old age...

    Overambitious authors.

From summary: "His enemies are quite numerous and his ambition entails nothing less than the complete transformation of Wizarding society."

Has 22k words, 3 chapters, and has been last updated 4 years ago.

If it didn't sound like it's been done before 100,000 times I'd say it's ok to aim big. Have to start somewhere and you can't expect everyone to have a plot outline before they start writing shit down. Frustrating when things get abandoned though.

Aim real, not big. Aim for something that stands chance of being complete. If it's your first thing and it's long, it's going to be either unfinished or of wildly different quality, as you get better.

Nope, just a fan of proper English.

Shall = modal verb expressing command, strong desire, or fatalistic future in first person.
Will = modal verb expressing will, choice, consent, etc.

We confuse them all the time, to the point that will has become commonplace and acceptable. Much the same as farther and further. At one time, they were distinct. But many (most?) modern grammarians accept further as a replacement for farther.

Can you elaborate on the further/farther part? Is it farther for physical distance and further for something regarding ideas/concepts, let's call it mental distance?

I know, I was just taking the air out of it. :p

That's correct. both terms indicate "At a greater distance than X," but further incorporates any distance not physically measurable.

    "I walked farther than Bob."

"I went farther than Bob." (walking)

"I went further than Bob." (level of education attained).

Stretching the above definition, we also get further used as an adjective: "No further comments, please."

Upon a bit more reading, it turns out this distinction may be an Americanism, but even so, it is falling away. So, if you are unsure of which word to use, further will always be correct.

Any fic with OC characters or OC teams. Fuck that noise.

Jaune-centric fics. There are a few good ones but 99% are shit.

Fics that for some reason decide to turn Ruby into a serial killer and have clearly been written one-handed. What the actual fuck, people?

Fics in which a female character, for whatever reason, grows or has a penis.

Eh, one OC character or another is ok, expanding RWBY's universe is kinda hard without them since most of the series focus on the school. It's not like HP that has an abundance of characters to work with.

    'Anyways'.

Why the fuck do so many people think that's the actual word.
