    I have this theory:

On another note; when do people think they need to use dust in the show and what are the limitation of dust "magic"? I'm sorta going along the lines of technomagic given the setting. It seems that quite a few semblances require dust to function (Blake's clones etc).

Also, given we've seen portal creation demonstrated in the show (Raven's semblance?), do people think that it's within the power of dust to recreate? Got a bit of a plot bunny going and it relies on the idea that Weiss - with considerable preparation - can create a portal with dust and it not being too jarring for the reader.

Another thing, I can't get the music that played during Qrow and Winter's fight out of my head.

Have started Season 1 of this, was anticipating a several hours long binge but I'm already at Episode Ten within an hour or so.

Are the episodes usually this short/long? It's not really a problem, in fact I'm liking the show a lot so far. It was just surprising how quickly some episodes would come to an end at first.

Netflix has merged the two seasons into two movies. I guess that says all you need to know about their length. Each season is about two and a half hours long, iirc. And I actually found that watching it all at once as a movie was more enjoyable than having it spread out into short episodes.

Since I watched it that way, I don't know for sure the average episode length, but I get the feeling that it varied a bit. Season three looks to have longer episodes from what we've seen so far.

So it looks like there's an RWBY manga out now. Looked really odd and the story seems to have jumped straight to Beacon in the first chapter with all the main cast already there.

Don't know quite what to think about this. I'm more used to animation following the manga - not the other way round.

Not a fan of the manga art style. It's like some Clamp-like thing. Just don't get why they've opted to go a very different route for something that is an adaption (ie, people would ideally want it to be pretty damn similar).

There's so many great fan-artists out there who do fantastic RWBY doujin and capture the canon style art, wonder why they opted to go for someone with a really distinctive personal style?

    Man those faces are terrible.

Blake's face is the only one that isn't horrendous. That being said, the not-faces are fantastically well proportioned - the art's got real depth-of-field? field-of-view? something like that.

    BUT THOSE FACES WHY

I felt it would of shown a great contrast if at the end of this episode it showed Blake reading by herself. After the scenes with Weiss/Winter and Ruby/Yang/Qrow I honestly felt that's what they were going to do.

But again, Blake is a no-show. :( Suppose there is enough coming up with her and Adam soon, hopefully, but feel like atm shes not getting as much screen time as the others.

I didn't care for the fight scene this episode. Coco and Yatsu were demolished. Coco's minigun was nerfed massively since it shredded through multiple Grimm creatures last season.

The best scenes were definitely the Weiss/Winter scenes where their semblances and glyphs were explored.

We are 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through this season, and I feel like nothing has really happened. Very little plot development, very little character development outside of Weiss.

The manga looks offputting bit it might grow on me. So far, not a fan of the art though.

As to the new episode, well, I liked it. More focus on the Schnee sister relationship and their Semblance, which seems to be a pure sorcery bloodlinelimit at this point.

Quite liked the interaction between Ruby, Yang and Qrow, poor Yang though.

Blake didn't appear but hey, she got the most development in earlier seasons and will more with Adam looming in the background.

The fight scenes were solid, CFVY seemed outmatch but then again, they, the slower heavy hitters matched up quite badly against the quick and agile hit and runners that are Mercury and Emerald. Still, Coco's gun seemed weaker but that might just be that she is not using ammunition that kills, seeing that this is not a deathmatch.

    So, yeah, fun episode.

I really liked the fight. Uneven, sure, but it was at least well done. More Blake would be nice but the scenes they did show were fun.

Apparently they're ripping off Careotters fic. ^^

I got the impression they'd never done much hunter vs hunter fighting while Mercury and Emerald certainly had.

Also wouldn't surprise me if the more.. destructive weapons were powered down for the tournament. They are on a giant floating arena after all.

Best line of the whole episode goes to Ruby though "It's called silver!" just the sheer joy when she said it killed me.

Grimm has no auras so the weapon might seem overpowered against them. Additionally, huntresses and hunters are trained to fight grimm.

Assassins and murders are good at fighting other people.

I always got the impression that Beacon spent time teaching both hunter vs hunter and hunter vs Grimm, with more focus on hunter vs Grimm. We know there is at least some amount of hunter vs hunter training as evidenced by the Jaune vs Cardin fight from season 1.

Anyways, I've come to the conclusion that Coco is basically like the Heavy from TF2. She's really good when she has people supporting her. She's not very good when stranded by herself, especially when fighting extremely agile opponents.

Did people think it wasn't going to be a walk in the park for Emerald and Mercury? They are basically infiltrators only there for a mission, as far as we know, I doubt they would even enter the competition otherwise. Given their real world experience, it doesn't make any sense for it to be anything other then a blowout, no matter the match up and skills of their opponents.

The tournament is pretty boring, but I'm really liking everything else. Winter and Qrow are great additions and I've enjoyed all of their scenes so far.

Yeah, the tournament could be more interesting. There's not enough build up, tensions, rivalries and the fights are just...fights, with nothing else really happening with them. Look at the way shounen anime do tournaments (which are a super common trope, but are often among the better arcs) - what makes them fun is the establishment of the strong characters early on, more personal emotional investment into the fights and usually some sort of training required to work up to each fight to build the tension. The Vytal Festival feels more like a setting for other events rather than a feature arc in itself (which isn't necessarily a problem).

Loved Yang's expression when Qrow pulled out the photo of Team STRQ. It wasn't overdone, there was no dramatization in the way the scene flowed, just this amazing lost expression that came over her face.

    I have a gripe: Qrow wasn't dusty. :(

I've had this image of a graying badass hunter who is slightly unkempt in my mind. In comes a twenty-year old lush.

That said, it was fun to see what a Ruby vs Weiss rivalry would have looked like had they not become partners.

I feel for Glynda. Poor girl is always cleaning up after people around her.

Soo... Episode five. I don't like all the new magic stuff. It's not that expanding upon the current system is a bad thing, really, it's just that we now have no idea whatsoever what can and cannot be done with dust. How it works, etc etc. Before it was pretty clear.

The fight was... Eh. Same issue as most of the fights thus far this season. The dialogue was pretty funny, though. Not brilliant, but good enough.

Ruby and Penny were adorable, as per usual and I liked the grit of Weiss to try to take the other guy down with her.

I'm honestly wondering if they'll be ballsy enough to kill off Pyrrha, considering she's based on Achilles.

They're definitely trying to go for a darker feel this season, but so far it's only building up to it rather than outright showing the darker sides of the setting.

Hopefully it doesn't fall as flat as the ending of season 2.
