It's even worse when someone like Dumbledore says it.

Dumbledore saying anyways? It's somehow part of the manipulative goat's plans for world domination.

I'm convinced Jaune-centric fics are a projection of insecure teens. OC teams usually suck because they quickly become team-sue.

Glass Menagerie is god like, so not always bad, in terms of OC teams.

Ruby's not a serial killer in Four Deadly Secrets but it's so hawt.

Jaune isn't always a bad character? He's pretty interesting if written well.

Jaune is no less shitty of a character than the former terrorist, the bitchey heiress, and the brutish blonde. The only difference is that he doesn't have tits.

Because the dictionary lists it as one. It may be informal and chiefly dialectic, but that in no way excludes it from being used in a dialogic function. Whether that is appropriate for a character like Dumbledore is, of course, another matter altogether.

The dictionary lists it as an informal version of 'anyway', sure. But an alarmingly large number of people seem to not realize the existence of 'anyway' to begin with, simply assuming the informal is the only form, and that's driving me nuts.

Largely because they can't seem to come up with any other way to change topics.

Stories where Harry travels back in time, and breaks down into tears whenever he sees someone who died in the future. I'm fine with Harry having and showing emotions... But shit, he's supposed to fight Voldemort! How am I, as a reader, supposed to take him seriously if he can't get through a conversation with a dead friend without sobbing uncontrollably?

Well, it's more the fact that peopel do actually use it in conversation in the real world. It's the same as a word such as "gonna" or "Blud" or "Bruv". It's not an actual word and while it is incorrect to use it in non-dialogue it's not neccesarily wrong to use it in a conversation.

Edit: Forgot to add my peeves. When people don't use contractions for characters like Harry, Ron or Fred and George but for some reason do use it for Dumbledore. Dumbledore uses less contractons than everyone else in the series. Also, he has never said any of the following: "Yeah", "Anyways", "Ain't" or any other informal word.

Yeah, in hindsight I should have been more clear. I don't have a problem with it being used in dialogue, except when every character uses it. Things like that are just another way to try to give a character a unique voice, and that's fine. The problem is when characters with no business using it do, or when the author uses 'anyways' in an entirely inappropriate situation.

FF.net needs a better tagging system and needs to try and force people to put down big ones like that. Then allow me to filter based on tags.

It does need a tagging system but should not go AO3 style where you can add tonnes of tags and stupid/useless tags.

Not sure how to draw the line to be honest. If they're staff controlled then there may be tags missing, though I guess it shouldn't be too hard to add enough important ones.

What's wrong with AO3 tags except for readability issues due to 5 lines of tags? I don't use the site much - if ever - so really don't know what its issues are.
