My go to example to this trope is in a fic where Hermione, Ginny are in their room in nightgowns and Harry is in his night clothes shorts and shirt and he trips and falls on Ginny who is sitting on the floor. In the curse of events the shorts buttons come undone and his penis("throbbing manhood") gets close to Ginny. Harry the normal person he is, immediately panics runs off crying and shuts himself into a bathroom, crying about how he almost raped Ginny.

This is hilarious at three different points.

Well, quite often they'll take everything that happens in the story, even thing that only get one line of mention. For example they might tag a story "Molly/Arthur" because they are married despite it not being plot relevant or even getting a mention, or mark it as having "Aberforth" in it despite only getting a few lines.

There should be a number of default tags and a space for 5 or so custom tags. There should also be a limit to how many relationships and characters can be tagged.

 

AO3's tagging system is shitty if you are looking for any kind of character centric fanfic, as people seem to be obsessed with filling the tags with every damn character that is going to appear in the fic

 

Strangely enough, the girls find that endearing, and three or more girls will convince a very reluctant Harry that they could share him. He is also reluctant to start intimate contact because of his shitty childhood, something that attracts girls that could 'relate to his pain', and the harem keeps being fed. Probably there will be some soul-bond/telepathy magic uniting all of them into a big, happy family and, of course, all of the girls will have to pretty much force themselves on him, because for whatever reason that the author makes up Harry is too honorable to be swayed by his sexual desire.

Dumbledore creates the bond and also cast the latent Tripping Jinx because Dumbles iz EvIlZ and a manipulative old bastard trying to get them all to share their magic with Harry through the bond FOR THE GREATER GOOD.

Harry is an Alpha Wolf animagus and his newly awakened instincts demand that he surrounds himself with at least ten women that were attracted by his animal magnetism.

 

That would be much better than the usual TotallyAlphaWolf!Harry submissively porking Fenrir Greyback, actually.

 

For bookkeeping's sake if nothing else, but fics where Dumbledore has "For the Greater Good" as a personal mantra are, of course, stupid as hell. That phrase reminds him of the worst mistake of his entire life, that STILL haunted him almost a CENTURY afterward. It's about as logical as fics where Snape casually throws around the word "Mudblood" like he's Draco Malfoy or something...come to think of it, a lot of fics with GreaterGood!Dumbledore also have BloodSupremacist!Snape; I imagine it's because both stem from an utter failure to read and comprehend the books.

 

This pretty much sums up most FanFiction writers. Virtually all their understanding of Harry Potter came from the movies. In some cases, not even that: they just read a ton of FanFiction, and work off of that.

Consider this: Methods of Rationality, one of the worst FanFics of all time, was written by someone who relied heavily on the Wiki and never finished reading the Books.

 

Never finishing the books is one thing but there are people writing fics while proudly proclaiming they never even started reading the books.

 

Well, Megamatt in the case of the offered example. So basically, yeah.

 

Uggh, don't get me started on Megamatt. The worst thing about him is that he actually does have potential since some of his stories are actually pretty good. The man seems to think that the best way to improve a story is to throw as many girls into the pairing as possible.

 

His first story Aspiration, despite how cliche is is the best one. Yet he announced that according to him it was the worst. I mean the grammar needs a good once over but considering all the other fics it is leagues ahead

 

It's one thing to be competent in terms of English skills and another to be a competent storyteller. He may more or less be the first but he sure as fuck hasn't got any clue about the second.

 

Megamatt is a writing machine, seriously I have to drag myself to write six thousand words and the guy types that much text on a bad day. Unfortunately, his obsession (can't be anything but it) with multi pairings and Gary-Stus protagonists is a big let down for me, and I can't help but feel that if you read one of his fics, you read them all.
