I've also been having a lot of fun with hard mode. Got gear checked hard by Oryx so I still don't have a hard mode clear. I got a 320 chest piece on my hunter which is fantastic. Did find out that it is possible to get no hard mode drops on the deathsingers however. I got blanked on that one once and was pretty bummed. I had assumed that counted as a boss fight and would have a guaranteed drop. Oh well, it was still a fun weekend running it.

 

I finally beat Oryx hard mode. After several hours of trying, we got our lucky break and got through the boss. I got a pair of 313 gauntlets. A pretty low value loot, but I'm not fucking complaining. The most important acquisition was the emblem, which proves I've already done it and will allow finding a group to run it with to not be a nightmare. I swear trying to find a group is worse than trying to find a job.


More importantly, however, beating Hard Mode King's Fall unlocked an event, Destiny's Halloween event (named differently in-game). I had no clue about this and it caught me completely by surprise. The tower is redecorated and there's several new questlines to do with either acquiring Halloween masks or doing stuff with them, or things like going trick or treating around the Tower.
Masks are purely decorative and range from bosses, like Atheon, Crota, Skolas and Oryx, to tower denizens like Rahool, Eris, Petra. There's also misc stuff like Engrams (of all colors) the Traveler herself, Xur, an awesome blue flaming skull, and various other stuff.

The questlines require you to do various end-game stuff like Court of Oryx, Heroic Strikes or PvP wearing specific masks, or throwback things like 'tripping' off the Tower wearing an Atheon mask. For those who don't know, for the first few weeks upon Hard Mode Vault release Guardians would force Atheon to fall to his death by pushing him off the ledge with grenades.

It's an entire seasonal event. It's actual fucking content. Solid content that is also fun to go through. And I hadn't fucking known about it until now. No advertising, no pricing, nothing.

Holy fucking shit Destiny has become such an awesome game Year 2.

Edit: It's called Festival of the Lost. There's also new (awesome) emotes and dances in the emotes vendor.

 

Fark. I fell hard into AC:Syndicate just when I should be prepping for HM. Probably gonna fall behind, but I def wanna get the exotic pulse sometime this week.

Maybe that'll coincide well with the Halloween stuff.

 

Hugplx not sure if you've had time to log in since the reset, but we can now go get the No Time to Explain quest from Lakshmi-2. Apparently it was locked until the reset.

The Halloween event is great and really show that Bungie is listening to the player base. Also I've spent way too much money on emotes. >_>

Republic: have you been using the "normal" strategy (kill Ogres then kill Light-Eater knights) or the new strategy that's been floating around (kill Ogres after stagger)? My raid group used the latter to great effect last week.

Also save all your exotic engrams until you're 311! After that they'll always decrypt to 310.

 

We used the no-knight strategy.

I saw a post on reddit of a guy who saved like 20 exotic engrams hoping that the rumor that if yo were >311 engrams decrypt 320. It's not.

I'm proud to say I've spnt 0 silver as of yet.

 

I caved and bought the Thriller dance. It's hilarious and hypnotizing. The bit where the character leans back and shakes their hips while my armour makes my head look like a floating, disembodied appendage a la Rayman... Gold, lol.

After coming back to destiny this week from quitting before house of wolves, I have my warlock at 40 with 240 or so light. Kinda salty that all my exotics are useless now, but thems the breaks.

 

They're not all useless. If they have y2 versions, dismantle them and you can rebuy the 280 versions from the exotics weapons kiosk for 150 marks.

Sparrow racing has the potential to be awesome or kinda boring. It depends on whether they'll add anything new to Sparrow function and control, imo.

 

I saw a bunch of new sparrows and sparrow related gear. There was a Jade Rabbit sparrow too.

I didn't see much else. For me to fall in love I think i'll need awesome tracks and maybe the Sparrows the ability to fire, even if it's only 'stun missiles'.

Sparrows kinda flip real fucking easily though, could be annoying.

 

I have no previous knowledge of this game and a job that allows flexible playing of this game over the new few months. Is it worth 30 pounds and if I enjoyed Halo and do enjoy MMOs, will I like this?

 

Yes to the first and yes to the second, but it'll probably cost you quite a bit more than 30 pounds.

I've enjoyed Halo since 2001 but had no previous MMO experience when I got Destiny on release last year. I had an ambivalent reaction to playing Destiny and it took me time to really appreciate the game for what it is, says the addict.

You should also be aware that today's Destiny isn't really past Destiny anymore.

The game went through a lot retooling(nerfs/buffs/economy/rng), phasing out of content and difficulty adjustments. Today's game isn't as unforgiving as the past one.

The gunplay/mechanics is beyond any other FPS I've played and if you enjoy killing things in a most satisfying fashion then you'll have a lot of fun. It will take you time to adjust to the difficult level(though in most parts it feels easier these days but there are some exceptions). There's a lot customization in the game. You have 3 character classes which each have 3 elemental types with a lot of options to fine tune to your liking.

To get the best gear you have to invest a lot of time. Some grinding can get frustrating and (borderline) unfair with the latest RNG nerfs.

Is the game worth 30pounds? Easily for me if I just look at the insane 2000h I've spent on the game. From an unique content perspective you get a lot more from other games though.

Where the game is really weak is narration even after the Taken King DLC and it's not really an open world game. But the parts it really excels its experience is so much beyond any other FPS.

Playing strikes/raids with other players is usually a nice experience which can influence your impression of the game a lot. But you need to join a site like "the100.io" as the game has no real way to organize activities. You should check out the game list on that site to get a "slight" impression of how the endgame looks like.

Then there's Crucible with all its competitive multiplayer modes and events like Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris which can be a lot of fun if that's what you enjoy.
