The new revelations seemed kind of out of the blue, but I must say,
Neo2OP!!! Glad to see them using an illusionist to her full potential.

Spoiler is from this latest one (remember subscribers get it a day early).

So, we can safely assume it was an allusion, right?

Who made the illusion? I have a strange feeling its Neo rather than Mercury or Emerald.

It's clear they're baiting the Grimm.

    Forgot about that.

Spoiler tags are probably a good idea until the episode is released for everyone tomorrow morning man.

Pretty sure we can assume that yes, and it shouldn't be a "strange feeling", seeing as Neo is the only illusionist we've met yet. And while Mercury/Emerald could be another, there doesn't seem to be much point in having two illusionists on the enemy team.

    Blake has illusion-like powers.

Still, assume the writers don't fuck it up, there would have to be a precedent in both the tournament and the law for defence by illusion. There is no way this isn't a somewhat regular problem on Remnant.

Given Cinder fucked off early I expect the Grimm will attack soon allowing Cinder to kill the popsicle and then her team might bail because they've done what they needed to do because Yang will kick up a fuss about what happened putting far too much of the spotlight on her.

I doubt the Grimm would be anything but a distraction. Presumably while she kills the Maiden. The plot came right the fuck out of nowhere, the delivery was a tad exposition-heavy, but overall it could be interesting.

The fight was good - thank goodness for that - and I really did not see the twist coming. Neo is a sneaky bitch.

I was actually chuckling at how stupid attacking Yang had been before she got surrounded and I remembered Neo was a thing...

Lungs, go watch the second opening animation again and pause it at 29 seconds in. Also pause it at whatever time that it shows Cinder.

The FF8 is strong with this series. Nice to see Monty's influence continues.

Also, when everything in this season goes to shit, I hope that prompts the main cast to leave the school setting.

29 seconds shows the typical Fall leaves as Pyrrha comes into focus (which I would argue doesn't count as particularly good forshadowing), but not sure what you mean on the Cinder appearance part.

Yeah, that could really only be called foreshadowing in retrospect. Prior to this episode, there's absolutely zero indication that the Maidens exist. Pyrrha's colors are red and gold, which are fall colors, so the leaves made sense in that context (much like Ruby's rose petals).

I have a sneaking suspicion that
Winter is the winter maiden, which would be disappointingly unoriginal, but given Ozpin's comment about the maidens being able to use the power of Dust without having any, it's a likely possibility. Thinking back to her fight with Qrow, I can't recall her ever actually using any Dust (I don't think her sword has the same dust chamber system as Weiss's). That could be considered foreshadowing if I'm remembering correctly and my suspicion turns out to be true.

I feel like Raven might be one of the maidens. It would explain why she took off.

Alternatively, Summer could have been the Summer Maiden. And if, say, Ruby was the last person on her mind when she died...

Yeah, I did the same. It was basically "you're a dumbass and you're going to get beat for that."

    I think that's a given.

So, might be a plot hole, might be explained later on but right now, my question is this:

How does the school that Team CRME claims to hail from not realize that they don’t know that the guy who reached the finals section and got his leg broken on television has never set foot in their institution?

Once he is injured, aren’t they going to check their records? Remnant hunter schools might be like our universities but I doubt they have the same numbers. They have hundreds of students tops, not thousands. It should be pretty obvious that at least one or two teachers should recognize a student good enough to reach the finals, but what are they going to think when no one does? And while most eyes will be on Yang, Mercury, as the victim, should be in the spotlight as well.

Pretty much the opposite of what a spy should want.

So, what’s the deal there? I mean, reaching the finals on international television is bad enough, but why have Mercury take this role when they could have manipulated Yang with any opponent she beat?

Was Yang specifically targeted? Would they have done this to any member of team RWBY? Was it about team RWBY or about Raven? Neo was bound to have told Cinder that Raven rescued Yang.

I mean, in a way, CRME took revenge on the two teams that fought against the Grimm attack in the last season finale. Only JNPR is left to take revenge on, but honestly, should they care?

Right now, I suspect they want to draw Raven out.

I mean, it's a given they want the Maiden as well, but sill, there is more.

Suddenly that last scene from season 2 starts to make sense.

Also, it might be a long shot but I'm getting the impression that Ozpin is old. He's the only character whose name doesn't fit with the color naming rule from the series and keeps making those little comments like "no one made more mistakes than I did" (season 1, though not with these words I think) and his short conversation with Pyrrha seems to be a hell of a foreshadowing. If I had to play a hunch I'd bet that he was born before the color revolution.

Who's to say they haven't been in it for the long haul? For all we know they actually have been attending Haven full time. It would be easy enough to get in... blackmail the right person, use Neo's illusions in the right places...

As for my personal opinion on why Yang, and the flaws in their plan you've pointed out... as of yet, we don't know their main goals... However I think getting revenge on Team RWBY is just a secondary concern here. The icing on the cake, so to speak. The shot of the Grimm at the end indicated that this is possibly an attempt at breeding negativity on a large scale.

Something in the style of a Chunin Exam attack, maybe. After all, some of the major leaders in Remnant are all gathered in one place - Ozpin, Ironwood... Qrow, maybe. Not to mention the Fall Maiden. Obviously this is just my personal take on it, but I doubt they give half a shit about Yang. After all, if she was the target, the plan could have easily gone balls up if RWBY had been eliminated early on.

It may be common for people unaffiliated with the schools to sign up for just one term so they can go into the tournament.

General Ironwood doesn't really fit either, and while Glynda Goodwitch could maybe be considered a color name (Glynda = holy/good, which are concepts associated with white), it's a pretty big stretch compared to the pretty much literal color names that everyone else has.
