This is something I've been interested in for a while now. The subject being: who knows you read/write Harry Potter fanfiction.

I, myself, haven't told anyone. As far as I know no one I know knows just how obsessed I really am with the HP verse. That's not to say some of my friends and not-so-friends don't think of me as being geeky :p

I'll state my question in as plain terms as I can.

Who, in your everyday life outside of the internet, knows that you have read the HP books and liked them enough to come online to read and maybe write some fan fiction on the subject.

And ... if the answer is 'some random people' or whatever, what was their response to your 'geekiness'.

Personally, if any of my mates found out their response, I believe, would be to laugh at me and tease endlessly. Hence why it's one of my 'dirty little secrets' :)

Well, some of my friends know about my reading HP fanfiction, some of them laugh about it, one of them also reads it, though she is a hardcore H/D Mpreg fan, and one of them reads the occassional one as I pass along the links to him. Things like The Office, and HERY POOTER ND TEH MAGIK WILLY.

As for the rest of them, they don't know, and I can't sya that many of them would care if they did.

I haven't told anyone as such. But my parents found out about it. Kinda hard to miss when a guys sits in front of a computer for quite a lot of time reading something.

Pretty much everybody knows around me... It was hard to hide, when there was only one computer in the family, that I was writing fanfiction (I started writing before I truly started reading). They were interested in what I was doing, at first, since I had never talked/written in English in my whole life. They wanted to know what kind of reaction my work would get.

Heh, now they don't know I still do it, because they've started considering me as a lunatic.

My close friends know about it, they have even read my stories (and liked them, as far as I know). None of them is fluent in English, so the idea of me getting good reviews and even winning an award on an English site sounds absolutely great to them :D.

I didn't tell anyone about DLP, though. I don't want to scare them off for good.

My best friend from school knows that I write in my spare time, and knows that I love Harry Potter, and we've both discussed what we would have made the books like if we were in charge (which is basically what fanfiction is), but she hasn't yet put together that i write fanfiction. I don't know if she knows that it exists or not. But yeah, if I ever write something that I'm really proud of, I think I'd show her.

I've almost told my girlfriend a few times, but it would lead to so many awkward questions like, "Why the hell is this rape-fic by some guy called Vash in your favourites?!". But I'll tell her eventually...after deleting Vash's story off my profile, and making sure that she never finds her way here. Lol.

Edit: Oh yeah, my family know, but I thought that was a taken.

See, I don't have that problem. I have my own computer and a room separate from the rest of the house. They probably think I get upto 'other stuff' when I spend so much time here alone. :)

Eh, one of my best friends knows, and that's basically it. My parents know, I forgot how they found out.

Of course, the friend that does know laughs at me all the time, but I don't really care.

You're quite lucky, tinn. My immediate family know but that's it (I've sworn them to secrecy, heh). That's the way it's gonna be. I would find it unbelievably weird talking about fanfiction to my friends. Not even my close cousins know.

Yeah, I've done the same thing with a couple of friends from time to time. Some times I get the feeling they may have 'figured it out'. But I think that's just me being paranoid. :)

Lol, my friend is such a H/G fangirl. I've tried to dissuade her of it, but she hasn't had the unpleasantness of reading H/G fanfiction, which is where most of my hatred of that pairing stems from, so she doesn't understand.

There's a person that was in one of my physics classes that loves Schnoogle or whatever it's called and is a die-hard Dramione fan. We discussed pairings one day since that was the big thing then and I came away wondering how many people silenty creep around me reading or writing fanfiction.

My mom? Dad? Cookie, my cat!?

Bio, it is a strange thought isn't it? You look around and wonder 'is he <insert name>. He seems the type to read fanfiction.' I've never had the fortune - or perhaps misfortune - to meet anyone who's also into fanfiction.

Squash: I'm with you on that one! :). Here's to no one ever finding out.

Unfortunately my mum found out, which ended with me staying on a psychiatric ward for a month.

Since then I've not told anyone, and I probably never will now. Being stuck on a closed ward surrounded by crazy people, and sharing a room with someone bent on killing herself kind of does that ;).

A few of my close friends know. Parents don't (MAYBE my mom. Neither care either way.) My brothers know also. Older one makes fun of me sometimes for it. ;) He does a terrible Emma Watson impression and cracks a joke. My friends sometimes make fun of me.

Recently, I've told two full classes I was in as we were told to say something weird, or unusual about ourselves. I chose this. Is it embarrassing? Somewhat, but I chose to kind of "out" myself as I don't apologize for the choices I make to anybody.

P.S. the Mental ward seems WAY too much of an overreaction, Litha. Seriously, your mom could be nuts. This is a hobby.

Eh ... Litha ... that was a joke ... right!?

If not, then I'm definitely keeping my cards close to my chest, so to speak. Rubber rooms and straight jackets ftfl!

Yeah well, my mum's the kind of person that thinks if you watch cartoons, you're a crazy lunatic that should be kept away from everyone.

I wish I could say it wasn't true, but then I think it's good that I didn't let it brainwash me into not reading etc.

My mum's always been a little extreme. It's probably why I'm so fucked up now, I mean I even get paranoid about watching Simpson's if I know she's around.

Litha, that sucks. My parents are pretty understanding people. I imagine the 'worst' they'd do would be to laugh at me. I say you go into her house, put the TV on Simpsons and find a way to make sure it never goes off again. :)
