You mean that there is a black haired Adonis who plays the main role as the villain?

I think we can only get a 'masterpiece' when everyone (especially the creators) leave the past where it belongs.

Leave the previous movies alone, respect them for what they were and do something different.

Coming out of the movie and constantly hearing comments like 'it just wasn't / it felt just like Star Wars' are pretty telling though.

He's talking about a random robot in the cantina scene. I thought it was Scorpio for a split second, but it wasn't.

Do not invoke Scorpio lightly, scrub!

Oh! Forgot to mention that I really liked Poe. Odd how he just disappeared. I feel there'll be some meaty deleted scenes on the Blu Ray.

I liked it though not a much as I hoped I would. It clearly tries to follow the original triology in tone and setting and manages to mostly match it (while being a bit more lighthearted/comedic) but it still lacksthe gravitas that the other Star Wars movies (in my eyes even the new triology) had.

I really liked the female MC, she really carried the movie in my opinion and I found her acting to be the best (though Han Solo and Chewbaka are also top notch). Kudos to the Disney for going with a female lead and not making her a damsel in distress. The rest of the cast is okay but in my opinion most of the newcomers have some weak moments (both Fin and The rebel pilot have very strong scenes but also two or three WTF moments). I liked Ben Solo as a villain and found his acting/character okay/fitting, especially since we have another big bad waiting to be explored in the other movies (That said the first time they spoke with him I had serious flashbacks to Marvel^^)

The force and lightsaber scenes were really well done and miles above what we got in the new triology - and too my surprise I didn`t even dislike lightsaber of Kilo Ren as much as I expected to do (though I still don´t really get why they decided to go with that design)

That said I have a few negative points. Some of the acting/character interaction felt a bit too simplistic/over the top (the scene where the ex-stormtrooper and the rebel ace pilot meet again in the rebel base and then march into the HQ demanding to rescue the girl comes to mind - in my opinion easily the worst acting in the whole movie and something that was very unrealistic) and the plot also doesn`t win any prices. (But I guess better a well executed average plot than trying to recreate game of thrones and fail at it (like the new triology)). I was also a bit disappointed by how much they dumbed down the technology (things like Han and Co being able to see the destruction of the Replic home planet, distance seemingly playing absolutely no role in communciation or travel time etc. though I admit that most of my expectations here were formed by the EU and not the previous movies)

But the biggest mistake/negative point has to be the whole "superweapon" idea and plot connected to it. In my eyes the whole thing served absolutely no point and the whole story could have functioned just as well, or in fact better, if they had cut the whole Deathstar MK3 out of the movie!

Just got back. Thoroughly enjoyed it - it isn't perfect, but it was damn good.

    Pros:
I think first place still goes to the three-way with Maul in TPM, but the fight between Ren and Finn, then Rey is jostling for second place with Luke vs Vader in ROTJ.
Finn and Dameron won me over right from the start; I'd love to see more of them bro'ing around the galaxy in later films.
Although there were points where I kinda felt she was a little clunky, by the end of it I was fully invested in Rey and her journey.
Action on the whole was spectacular.
The funniest Star Wars film yet.
That scene between Han and Ren. I got chills.

    Cons:
Spectacular though it was, I'd have cut at least one action scene in favour of character development - probably the scene with the smugglers just after meeting up with Han and Chewie.
A bit too much plot/thematic retreading - although Abrams has clearly learned a thing or two from his experience on Star Trek Into Darkness in that regard.

    Undecided:
Kylo Ren. On the one hand, he wasn't anywhere near the threat or presence that Vader was. On the other, I could understand why people would be scared shitless by him. I think he's kinda like the Kingpin in the Netflix Daredevil - he isn't yet the cunning, ruthless and malevolent force you expect, but if you piss him off then you know he's going to be doing the Force equivalent of crushing your skull with a car door over and over again. The bit with the troopers sidling away from his tantrum was funny, yes, but it suggests they've seen him flip out and slaughter people just for being there before (like bad fanon Voldemort, actually).
Rey and Finn not slicing themselves apart with the lightsabre. I'll give Rey a pass due to Force skills and mysticism, but Finn's got no excuse...although I'll grant that he still got his ass handed to him. It also occurs to me that since there was a trooper fighting with the electric baton that deflected the sabre, it's possible that Finn had trained with that, which wouldn't be dissimilar, I suppose.

Finally, I lol'd at the idea that no matter what's considered canon, Han and Leia's kid still fucks up the galaxy.

Han and Leia have a kid in this movie? What's their name? I never followed the extended universe. does this movie follow the extended universe books that have come out?

No, all EU material has been dumpstered.

Only the 2008-2013? Clone Wars animated series is still canon of the things made before Disney took the helm.

One last thing: Snoke was very underwhelming. He wasn't scary, he wasn't impressive, and he wasn't interestingly hammy. Hopefully we'll see some development in the next film.

Saw it imax 3d at highpoint. It was pretty cool. The 3dglasses are uncomfortable as fuck for someone with big glasses like me ,but I was totally immersed and forgot about it early on.

Just got back. I think I need to watch it again but initial impressions, I think it's my third favorite movie so far.

Favorite characters of the new bunch were Kylo Ren/Ben and Rey. Poe was good, and Finn was okay, but way too... "21st century black guy" for Star Wars, I thought.

On the downside I thought things moved too fast, and they skipped out on a lot of exposition that would've been nice.

Really curious to hear people liking Ren. He just seemed so... Pathetic to me. Admittedly, only once he started throwing temper tantrums and we learnt of his origins.

If he had never taken his helmet off I would have been happy. He was a bitch when he had it off. I couldn't take him seriously. Especially his whining session to Vader's helmet. "Grandfather please help me! I can feel the pull of the light!"

    Get. Fucked.

The pacing in the middle was far too fast. The speed with which they went from planet to planet made the entire universe seem incredibly small, and made the Star-Killer threat seem less intimidating.

Would have liked a lot more character interaction. Rey being that good with the force that fast was one of the biggest annoyances for me. I would have been okay with them auto tuning Carrie Fisher, and using a softer focus, smoking and surgery have not been kind. I would have really liked Han to get one last word in before leaving us forever.

They kinda over dramatized the Rey-Luke interaction. Would have been better if he casually summoned to saber, looked at it for more than a beat, and then glanced up emotionally at Rey.

But overall it is only behind ANH and TESB for me.

Glad I am not the only one who felt that the movie was fast.
It hit pretty much all the plot points from ANH but it didn't let them breath enough to sink in and have weight in my opinion.

Overall though good movie, will see it again but lacking something....like the rest of you I cant really put my finger on it.

It lacked the weight of the original musical score, the scope of ANH, and the tension. The tension for me is the biggest missing link, the Starkiller was never allowed to seem as immense and invincible as the Death Star. It was not as threatening. They should have spent 5 minutes alone dealing with the fallout of its first blast.

Plus it suffered from the same problem as every movie post Empire, too many characters, too many plot lines. Each character is seen less, and is made less important, so the plot is relied upon more, and none of the movies have had mind blowing plots, but the characters and the original ideas made up for it.
