Had an argument about this on Spacebattles, and apparently because he was injured he lost.

One thing I found weird during the film was that Kylo instantly was aware which Stormtrooper betrayed them. Not the part where he probably could feel his emotions in the village, but that he bothered to memorize his number. After reading the wiki about Finn, it's less unexpected because apparently FN-2187 was one of the most promising soldiers in his unit. Which is a surprise to me because from the film alone I would assume he was just average and people started to recognize him after he become a traitor.

Well yeah, he got shot by the bowcaster, and the movie made a point of how badass it was.

I mean, unlike his brethren, he seems to land every blaster bolt he fires.

What kind of ophaxx shit is that?!

Well, again found this on Spacebattles if you look close enough you can see a dozen or so bodies.

I saw it again tonight. Picked up on a ton of stuff I missed the first time, little details like the rebellion fighter pilot doll Rey had amongst her personal belongings and the "island surrounded by ocean" she's been dreaming about. Combined with the lines [Kanata: "The one you've been waiting for will never come for you, but someone still can." Rey: "Luke?!"] is pushing me toward the conclusion that Rey is indeed Luke's daughter, left on Jakku by her mother.

I was really able to enjoy the movie more the second time around. Don't know why. Maybe it's just that I wasn't in hypercritical judgement mode and comparing every scene to the original trilogy.

And a good bit of my nitpicky stuff just seems too nitpicky now. Like my beef with Rey being able to beat KR in a duel. Upon rewatching that fight choreography, you see how clumsy Rey is with the saber, how each of KR's strikes send her stumbling, how wounded KR gets slower and more erratic as he bleeds out, how Rey really only gains the advantage when she fully accepts that she is a force user. It still seems a bit contrived, but I can grasp what they were trying to do there.

    9/10 up from 8.5

0/10? Now I like the movie more out of pure spite to that crazy reaction.

That's pretty much my exact reaction to the prequel hate, lol.

    Seriously 9/10? It's getting ridiculous.

I consider John Carter a better movie on all levels than the current SW. That movie's only "real" problem was that it was old fashioned most of the audience couldn't really appreciate it for what it was, a homage to a classic.

Does anybody here recall the ridiculing of that movie? The current SW deserves far worse.

IMDB's leading review of the movie "Star Wars: Bastardized, Rebooted, and Redefined (for adolescents)" gets straight to the point and describes my utter confusion why so many people here just turn blind. Nostalgia just can't cover this up.

It's a fun movie. It's not attempting to be a grand statement of whatever, just good entertainment.

Of course I understand the argument that good light entertainment can be smart and I generally agree with that, but sometimes it's just not worth getting worked up over.

The reason people are getting worked up imo is because if it's any other franchise, it gets panned for doing what it did. Instead, it's seemingly universally adored.

You argue as if there's no legacy and as if the characters and story universe doesn't matter. If SW games have better plots than this rehash something is fundamentally wrong with the decision process. As I said before I don't really blame the director here but Disney. Everything in it smells like their shallow kiddie taint.

Ah, now you've pulled back the curtain on your rage. It's at Disney.

JJA, not only was the director, but the writer of the script, the creator of the plot, and all the things you said you hated. Lawrence Kazdan (sp?) co-wrote the script afterward. So, your hatred of Disney is misplaced and you're acting as if this is something new in the SW-verse. They've all had poor scripts, plot holes, annoying characters, scenes that don't make any sense, things that murder suspension of disbelief, and so on, but it doesn't stop them from being entertaining.

I've never claimed the original films were good by any traditional measurements. But they were made with zeal, had lovely characters, atmosphere and created a fascinating story universe. They had all the right elements and perfect timing to become cult. At least for SW4-5. Personally I've always considered SW6 corny and disappointing.

Whatever JJA is as a Director but if you look at his Star Treks or Super8 the guy knows how to develop characters and has a hand with selecting the right actors. A quality this SW movie completely lacks imho. My main problem with it and it feels like a Disney casting show to me. What's a SW plot rehash without characters which can carry it?

Just watched this last night, and I haven't read through this whole thread yet, but my overall impression was incredibly negative.

Orphan stranded on desert planet accidentally acquires a droid with information critical to the plans of the Rebellion Resistance fighting against the evil Empire first order, escapes off planet, discovers heshe is force sensitive, takes plans to secret Rebellion Resistance base. Empire First Order deathstar Bigger!Deathstar is about to destroy secret base. Small team of pilots blow it up.

What movie did I just watch again? Yea, I'm being a bit simplistic, but would it have killed them to come up with a plot that at least felt a little original?

How bout you get over yourself, mate? Your disenchantment with the film does not in any way affect my enjoyment of the film.

I know this is hard to understand... but it's possible to agree to disagree.

This. I was incredibly disappointed with the movie until I cooled down and appreciated the fun things in it. The raptors, man, give them a Best Ensemble Oscar already.

    Also, Avengers 2.

I'm... confused? Where did JW or Avengers 2 get the critical acclaim SW7 is getting? They also weren't essentially remakes either...

Can you really not see the blatant plot parallels between World and Park? It's almost painful. And JW got plenty of acclaim before the hype died off and cooler heads prevailed. Most still agree that it was good lighthearted fun, but not as good as the originals, just like what people are saying about this movie.

That said, I also don't get the Avengers 2 comparison.

I just got back from the movie. Still unsure how I feel about it, and need to process.

Sure, it basically was just a rehash and just recycled older plots, but that didn't really bother me. I had good fun. My favorite character was by far Po. His scenes (especially the dogfights) had me really excited.

Ford is, again, a superb actor. His scenes, especially the ones with Leia, were great and got to me.

The various throwbacks and references brought a smile to my face every time I saw it.

Many, many terrible plot decisions, but eh. I don't really mind them too much. My biggest problem with the fic has to be Rey wielding a lightsaber in a semi-competent fashion the first time she touches one. Finn too, for that matter.

Yes, the fact that Ben was shot by the bowcaster does sort of soften his loss, until you realize that it has nothing to do with Rey and her own ability. The way the scene was set up, it looked it like it was a combination of Ben being critically wounded and Rey being completely immersed in the Force that allowed her to act like that.

It still seems like bullshit, but it's the sort of bullshit that I can accept, if with some difficulty. Force powers are still a thing and Ben used them on Rey just a couple minutes ago with no issue, but suddenly he doesn't even try.

Eh. The movie did what it tried to do, whatever. I enjoyed it for getting the chance to watch Han Solo, Po, and some Star Wars that had great technical effects but was weary of going overboard on them. A little dissapointed by the movie, but in hindsight my expectations were probably too high to be realistically met.

Edit: Mark Hamill looked ... really weird, in that robe. Didn't get the Jedi Master feel from him at all. I hope the second movie does a better job there.

Edit2: My second biggest peeve was the 'Supreme Leader'. Feels like a really, really bad Palpatine wannabe. If he's not actually related to Palpatine in some way I'll be very dissapointed.
