I thought it was pretty onpoint. Didn't know anyone had objections with the final fight honestly.

 

So. . .

Just got back from the movie—and managed to make it spoiler-free as well, except for the first commercial.

All-in-all, I felt as though I was actually watching a Star Wars movie, which was something that didn't happen until the last half of the third movie for the last series.

As for certain elements - At first I had a hard time believing Finn and the lightsabre, but the other Stormtrooper wielded a weapon enough like a sword that made me think they all had basic sword-training as Stormtroopers. That was enough to handwave it for me.

I was a bit worried at Kylo Ren's weakness at certain points, yet supposed greatness at other points. But the last scene explaining he was more an advanced novice that true Dark Jedi was enough for me to accept it (and it also explained to me why he lost his temper so often).

I was actually very happy with what they did with Han Solo. His character worked well for what he was supposed to do, but it would have gotten tiring and felt like a rehash of a rehash had they gone further with him.

I agree with the overall feeling they needed a little more character development. Cut out a couple of the desert scenes or splice them together and it would have give more than enough time for the needed development.

I did not like the backstory/world-building. Thirty years have past. I would have liked to know a little more about what happened. Not a massive info-dump, mind you, but at least a few sentences about it.

So, going forward - wife thinks Rey is Luke Skywalker's daughter, separated to protect her from her cousin after he turns.

 

I wouldn't be surprised but I really hope this is not the case.

 

Finally saw Star Wars last night. Pretty much everything I feel about it has been said already. Everything felt too small, the lightsabre battle was brutalist and very nice, Rey and Finn are both amazing MCs. etc

Has anyone read any decent Rey centric fics yet? All I've found is crappy shipping fics.
