i know i'm right. i'm speaking from experiance here. To tell you the truth there aren't much harry potter fics i can read now and the only fics i read are high quality and even then its hard to find something like that. Right now i'm reading a very good crossover with naruto and warcraft "The Legend of Uzumaki Naruto: A Beginning". (you must have heard of this.)

That fic is truly a fine read with a high quality writing level on the writer part. At first i really didn't think it would work because of the huge difference on the power lever of the two but being creative and dedicated as the author is the guy did it completly successfully and completly original and unique of its own.

I really can't find any high level quality in hp fics no matter how hard i tried so i gave up for awhile.

For more discussion on magical cores and the nature of magic in HP:

    http://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=3600

The thread isn't really all that old, and though it probably wouldn't be wise to bump it, I thought I would link it so people could see what has already been proposed on the subject. I'll quote my own theory.

I've been away for a couple, so I'd just like to go back to this point.
If this is your theory (and I checked HBP so I know what you are saying) then surely that means that there are some very, very large coincidences in the world. For instance, the words to make something float (or to just make a feather float - I'm still debating this one with myself) are Wingardium Leviosa - which whilst not being latin as such, certainly is based upon the latin phonetic system and has roots in the same words as levitate and wings. (I'm sorry if it is actually latin or if it is something else, but I can't really remember)

Anyway, surely if the 'magic words' were out there to be discovered somewhere, then wouldn't they be based of different word bases to that which we are using in modern day (or maybe J.K is just lazy...)

On another note, I find myself agreeing with other people who sugest that

    A) wandless magic is craply done in the majority of fanon

    and

    b) that maybe, just maybe, there is no such thing as a magical core.

I also get the feeling that at the end of the day, this is fiction and therefore J.K. Rowling didn't think too massively about it (we see the same with the money discussion that occurred a while ago). Maybe it's the nature of thing, or maybe its the extensive appendixes, but noone questions Lord of the Rings like this.

meh! it really doesn't matter what or how magic works. In the end authors creates magic from there own mind set so to me magic is nothing more than magic that can be told in infinite theories.

...Or... We use the magical system that is derived from JKR's works...that would make it a proper fan-fiction...to do otherwise puts us in the AU realm...

Magical core is mostly stolen from Robert Jordan books. (lolz, find your center!) and to a lesser extent from Tamora Pierce / Mercedes Lackey / Crappy Romance/Fantasy author. What I believe (and write) is that Wandless magic is a lot like regular magic, just really freaking hard. JKR doesn't seem to believe that magic is taxing on your body, but if it was, it would be like running a marathon instead of a block.

When I think of wandless magic i want a toned down version of the magic used in the Belgarath series by David Eddings

David Eddings is so silly. You know what would be ridiculous? If Harry Potter magic was secretly like the magic in Diane Duane's series, which would explain how Harry kicked Voldemort's ass.
