If you are reading Ouroboros for quality you are doing it wrong, it's quite shit. But it does fit very nicely into the guilty pleasure category.

 

Ouroboros has its moments, and I suppose that it can very easily hit pet peeves for people considering the tropes its using, but calling it 'shit' is a bit much, I'd say.

Yes, the last bit of the first 'book' was retarded, but overall it was a good read and a decently structured story with strong, unique character voices.

 

It's also fairly terribly written.

 

? No it wasn't. One of the author's few saving graces is that he's technically decent at writing.

It can be well-written in a technical sense and still be terrible.

Now I wouldn't use the word terrible, but I do have a perpetual problem with Ouroboros. It's like...an uncanny valley thing? It's just good enough that I can't stop thinking "this idea could be done better and that story would be great" which makes me more critical as I read somehow. It's weird.

 

Despite the problems Ouroboros is one of the better fics in the fandom and not just in the guilty pleasure way either. It actually has some of the best character development I've ever read and the author knows what he's doing... for the most part. Though the climax of the first part was cringe-worthy and had one of the most contrived reasons to further the plot into part 2, and because of that I've sorta lost interest in it. But the first part remains one of my favourite fics.

The thing that gets me with Ouroboros is that it is slow, for the lack of a better word.

It's gotten a bit tiring to read Naruto going "oh ho ho ho I am teh evilz nao."

SI kills Sasuke at age of 6 without anyone else taking notice.

Yeah no, I'd rec it only if you have literally nothing else to read.

 

Well the story gives somewhat plausible explanation on how it was possible in chapter 10.

 

Sounds like a quality reason to read the fic to me xD But I'm a little biased.

 

Fair enough, still some people may get turned off by that.

On the other hand, really want to read it now.

It is okay.

Keeping in mind what I already said, it's an okay time waster.

Grasp of writing skills, (grammar, spelling) is pretty decent with just some odd choices at time.

"Gates of the dam" vs "Gates of the damn"

 

I remember this, tried it a while back. Only got in a chapter or two, it was terrible. The SI is unbearable, the writing is bland and aggravating and the plot and character decisions didn't make sense. Maybe it changes after chapter 2 and suddenly becomes good but I doubt it.

 

I am following it. It certainly isn't DOS or Walk On The Moon but it is interesting enough to keep reading. I do enjoy reading about power hungry SIs however. I would call it a guilty pleasure at 3-3.5/5

monologuing right in the middle of the Uchiha shrine, to Sasuke's corpse. And then provides a detailed explanation of what he wants, laughs at the realization that he's speaking to a corpse, and then continues doing it. That entire segment was so ridiculously stupid that it managed what the part where he beats up innocent 6 year old Sasuke and then genuflects before a bewildered Itachi couldn't and got me to drop this faster than he dropped an innocent, traumatised kid because 'lol power hungry'.
