Can't really blame them can you? It can be pretty scary to post in an established forum, and with the way it's going (no actual discussion) they can't really get more than one post out of it.

Slightly off-topic here, @Nazgus, but did Stephen King really say what your signature claims he said?

I was a lurker for a while, after more or less every quality Harry Potter fanfic I read mentioned DLP or its C2. Got reminded this place exists from people in an ASOIAF quest on another forum and wanted to see what new stuff has come out since.

    That's because they're asked to.

When a new user is approved they get a bunch of notifications, including one that asks them to post here to tell us how they found us. They are doing as they're asked so I'm happy. :awesome

I knew about DLP through some fanfic authors either acknowledging their beta's or them bitching about it. I lurked for a year or so until I was at Spacebattles and someone told me that Devil You Know updated earlier on DLP then on fanfic. Made my account and then posted some stupid ass comments on the thread.

In fact, it was so stupid, two of the tags is ashlands of the cold is syed and syed is multiplying. Good Times.

Wow. You were compared to syed in your first post? That's rather impressive, syed is one of our most beloved members.

I found it while searching google for fanfiction of Harry Potter as a Dark Wizard, my fist search query was literally "Dark Lord Potter" and wouldn't you know this was the first result.

At the time there was a picture of Anakin Skywalker on the front page, which intrigued me somewhat as a Star Wars fan.

I poked around a little, saw some good ideas being tossed around, and read some bitching fics, and decided to make a profile and stick around for awhile.

That was about 6 years ago.

After that my Parental figure died, I ended moving around a lot, and ended up having to focus on real word stuff for a good while.

I decided to come back because I'm trying to focus on becoming a writer and I remembered not only being inspired a lot of the time by the website, but also having a lot of fun the last time I was hear, and fortunately there seems to be a whole section of the website dedicated to helping people learn better ways of writing original fiction so I think I'll stay for a while.

Found out about DLP from a friend who introduced me to fanfiction in the first place. Spent almost two years lurking until I decided to make an account.

Found DLP a long ass time ago, think it was either random google or mentioned by a reviewer in a shitty story I wrote. Lurked here for ages, always meant to make an account to reflect my time spent here, but so long as I had access to the library I was happy and put it off.

And off, and off, until I finally decided to make an account after 8 years lurking. (Or so)

    So, google/reviewer I guess?

Found DLP from google. Was looking for fan fiction recommendations and was mostly using reddit to do so. But was looking for a forum format instead of the way reddit is (each site has its advantages and disadvantages) so found it through a google search.

Was searching for Harry/Fleur fics when I came across the thread started by Methene about the pairing, then drifted into other areas. With the beautiful sarcastic rebuttals and other such items, how could I not stay and enjoy myself?

Reading the excellent fanfiction, Harry Potter and the Boy Who Lived by Santi on fanfiction brought me here.

For me, I remember running into DLP through Google but what really got me into it as a member was Jon's fic, Devil You Know.

So I guess a mixture of Google and hearing about it from SB.com and FF.net.

A surprising number of people itt came here without even knowing of the rep.

e: And yeah, doing intros here is a good idea. At the very least, it seems to have removed most temptations to flame the helpless newb.

Why was the introduction forum removed? I wasn't around here back then.

    Wow, I feel old now.

Basically, it was far too much fun for the established members, and not fun at all for the people introducing themselves.

Think of it like an initiation ritual where we weeded out the unworthy. Back then we had standards! /nostalgia

Pretty sure the forum is archived, so you could go take a look at what we put people through. :p
