I saw that quite a few people on this site liked the books. However, the movie was more or less trashed by the reviewers of almost every major papers.

Has anyone seen it yet ? Is it as good as the LOTR trilogy ? Or is it as pathetic as Dungeons and Dragons ? I would like to know your opinion.

I just saw it last night. And i must say that it sucked, completely and utterly. They completely destroyed the plot, didnt follow the book, and the charecters seemed completeley shallow and unrealistic. I wont give anything away but it is a complete waste of money in my opinon.

I'm not going to see it because it would forever alter my perceptions of the characters, and they don't look anything like what I picture them to be.

They casted Eragon so badly it's not even funny.

The movie was watchable but then again the books aren't that great IMO either.

well since the source material in the first place ripped off pretty much every famous piece of fantasy, and the plot is fairly crap. I'll go to it anyway because i can see it for free.

I saw it yesterday too and I took a friend that hadn't read the book. I paid 8.50 for a ticket and still wanted to walk out. Not only did it not stick to the book, as filled with cliches as it was, it managed to add more bullshit and bad filmography in the process. The books were well written, even if they didn't have a lot of new ideas, but this movie held no reality, and felt as though a child wrote the story board, with the rushed feeling it presented. Even without having the books to compare it to, my friend, who frankly isn't the most well informed in these areas, knew that this movie was horrible.

Would people recommend the books though?

I'm looking for something to read over break and I know someone who has the two that are out.

I'd recommend the books because they are like brain candy. Easy to read, much like the HP books.

I just came back from seeing the movie.

Needless to say, it was utter shit. The didn't "change" the plot, they fucking raped it. All throughout the movie it felt completely rushed, it didn't follow the books worth a damn, and the characters... ugh. About the only guy they cast properly was Brom (Eragon's mentor). For the other characters, it's like they just ignored the books and had some guy make up the way the characters looked while he was smoking crack. Eragon and Murtagh look like they were cast straight out of a boy band, Arya is an ugly, ugly, bitch, and the dragon Saphira looks nothing like she did in the fucking book cover.

Overall, I suggest not watching this shit if you value your mental integrity.

If one had never, ever read the books before, would it still be wise to go? I ask because my brother really wants to go see it, and I'm the only one available to take him.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend the books. I couldn't get beyond the first five chapters, too borning. I got it as an easy read, but it's still sitting somewhere only partially read. Maybe, if I get really desperate to read something I will go back to it.

I don't know if I'm in the minority or not but that's my two cents.

I thought the books were quite good. I'd definitely recommend them.

The movie on the other hand... 2/5 stars >_<.

The books were rip-offs I wouldn't recommend them under any circumstances.

They were ripped off from various books. With the plot being stolen from The Old Star Wars saga (Luke Skywalker!Star wars) while the theme was stolen from books like LOTR the magical theory was stolen from another lesser known book, Amerision pointed that out in the books discussion thread. I could go on a rant forever with detailed comparision between the two plots.

nuhuh you aren't in the minority even if it is for different reasons. The writing style is not bad. I found myself in a similiar postion as yourself when I first started reading LOTR, and now it's in my favorite original Fiction works.

The books are rather good, especially when you compare them to Harry Potter.

The movie though...too rushed, and I kept thinking Eragon was a reject from fucking Hanson. Add to the fact there was tons of pointless events (anything that Galbatorix in it, except the intro), no characterzation whatsoever, out-of-place events, and it's a huge turd. I kept thinking that they made it bare-bones, as the actual book had a lot of sub-plots, characterzation, etc, but even then it still sucked. At least Saphira looked semi-decent, though the scene where she changed from small dragon to a fucking beast was a large "wtf" moment.

Just saw the movie two hours ago. I was kinda expecting something bad, after all it had only 5.0/10 on IMDb. But then, I wasn't expecting something SO bad.

I seriously could have done better if I had the money to make the movie. Really.

Now I can't even read the books. I'll always have the ugly face of Eragon in my mind.

I liked the books decently enough, the second was mind numbing from all the elvish bullshit and ancient language in it, but still, it was better then then Rowling's shit efforts of late.

I've played the xbox game of the movie, and if it's anything like the movie... ug. I'll snag it tonight I think and see how bad it is

Hm, just saw this movie a couple of hours ago and it wasn't that good to be honest. Alot of the movie reminded me of Star Wars, especially the part with his uncle dying. The riding scenes were like cuts from LOTR, all that was missing was an elf, a dwarf and two hobbits. The scene where the dragon goes from runt to humongous giant was totally weird as well.

    Eragon was such a tool.

I'm glad I didn't pay to go see it.

The movie didn't even HAVE a plot.

The main character looks like a complete idiot.

I haven't even read the books but I knew that the movie would blow.

Probably because of the corny title.

    Mr Originality strikes again.
