I must be dead.... someone acutally necro-posted and had a firm reason for doing so... you must be like, the god newb. >_<

But I've been interested in this series for awhile, This might just be the incentive to take it up.

It's been said many times before and will be in future...there's no such thing as a necrobump in the library as long as it isn't one sentence of drivel.

One comment on his yahoo group that I thought very pertinant.

I stopped reading after the 2nd story because it seemed that everything was finished. I mean, Harry had saved Creation. What else is there to do? Anything else - especially fighting a Dark Lord who's a smiget compared to Allarius - seemed to be too much of a letdown for me. I think that the 3rd story was completely unneccesary in this respect.

And although the others state that there isn't any romance (there isn't), this was the story that turned me against H/G. The reason was that Harry started thinking of Ginny as a Goddess. And the author wrote Ginny like one despite the fact that she's still just an ordinary girl, despite the fact that Harry and Ginny barely dated. It's a schoolboy crush he has on her, but joe6991 made Harry's love for Ginny the key to Creaction and Harry's power without any backup at all. I remember there was this one battle where Harry was thinking about fate and the universe and life and God. And then the joe6991 wrote, "Ginny."

Here's a quote like that. Btw, this place is, according the joe6991, "The Throne, the Godhand, the Ways of Twilight" (in other words, the place where all the universes in reality were created).

For those of you looking for how far joe6991 is, the 3rd story's nearly finished. Harry's defeated Voldemort, and his only task now is to repair Creation. I think that 2-3 more chapters will do it. And yeah, this Harry can pawn any other Harry in fanfiction. Hell, he destroyed the universe and Creation itself while hunting down Voldemort. That's hawt. Actually, I was one of the people here who loved it when joe6991 exploded his universe in the 2nd story.

And oh yeah, my rating of this story? 5/5 for pure fucking epic writing.

I'm a big fan of epic stories. I absolutely love the moods and underlying themes of this trilogy. However, I stopped reading about halfway through the second story. While I love watching the main character struggle through hellish obstacles that forge him into a diamond-hard Hero with a capital "H," I get bored of watching even super-powered characters constantly ground into the ground.

After a while, this series becomes a lot like the book of Job. "Let's see how much bad shit I can do to Harry before that even I (Joe) can't write him coming out of it." Let the poor kid catch a break now and then. I think the closest that Harry came to even remotely having a bit of a breather after getting his super powers was in the first part of the second story, when he just kicks ass, takes names, and chews bubblegum. Well, no bubblegum, but he still rocks. And Joe has a way of turning even Harry's victories into much larger defeats. He wins a battle, but it has consequences that make things that much harder on him.

For me, this got hard to read. I like to read about the hero just flat out winning one once in a while. Not often, but just a clean, obvious kicking of ass that doesn't turn out to contribute to some larger Armageddon.

The soul of the hero has been updated again on Joe's yahoo group.

This chapter was kind of weird since he actually puts himself in the story (not as an OC, but himself as a writer).
You think the trilogy is finally finished, but then Joe pops in, and the story goes on... I really hope he'll put a stopper to this story soon, it has been drawn far out of proportions.

    Howdy folks.

This is a mod from Joe's Yahoo! group, I'm just letting everyone know that Joe has uploaded a new chapter, having found some spare time whilst gold mining in the Australian Outback. Seriously. I'm not joking. I'm not privy to the master plan, but it would seem we have maybe 2-3 chapters left tops.

    Cheers,

Wow this series is wack. First of all its huge, like a million words.

    That's nice.

And it comes very close to the top of the fanfic food chain. If there was a SUPEREST BESTEST FANTASTICALEST HP FIC IN THE WHOEL WIDE WORLD competition, I would definately choose this one.

10/10, Great characters, great settings, great (too great) conflict. I like it.

I'm pleased to announce, again as a moderator for Joe's Yahoo! Group, that the Cap'n is back in the driver's seat once again.

A new chapter has been uploaded for Soul of the Hero, and the updates should be flowing once again as they did in yester-year. We are only a few chapters away from the end of the trilogy now, but Joe hasn't mentioned where his writings might take him after its' completion.

And I thought it was over back in September.

Anyway, it feels like Joe's stretching the ending. It has been a very long while, and it looks like he still doesn't want to end the story but keeps stretching it, again and again. Maybe it fits with the story, Harry being the Creation which is infinite, undending worlds, untime and unspace and all that stuff... so the story theoritically never ends, but for the sake of the reader, a true ending would be much better.

Hmm... this story rings a bell. Of all the threads in all the world, huh...

Good to see that both of my stories, well all four of them, made it into the library here. Thank you to all who read them, took the time, whether you loved it or hated it.

Is it weird to feel more than a little voyeuristic about posting in a forum about your own fics? Maybe voyeuristic isn't the right word, but you get what I mean...

Ha, yeah - there is more than a little truth in this. Not the fitting with the story part, but the stretched ending. I've been trying to deliver the deathblow to the Hero Trilogy for over a year now but something always gets in the way, like mining gold for the last eight months - that was something new. I think starting a new story will put an end to it for good, as there really is only one more chapter to go.

And that chapter is titled 'Epilogue', so it'll speak for itself in that regard.

Anvarix, is that you? Aw, man, you thread-hopping son of a gun. Been spreading the good word, I see. Top stuff - I knew you liked me. If I could give out medals over on the group, you'd get one for undying loyalty. Ha, I hope you read that and it inspires you to rebellion.

Well, all the best, thanks again folks at DLP,

    ~~joe

OMG, was this fic still going on, I thought It ended years ago. The only way it could have continued is if Harry had woken up in St. Mungo and discovered that the whole 2nd book was a dream.

Tell me if this really happened!! /not sarcasm

It's done. It's finished. Thank god, it's finally over. This story has gone on for way too long. When I first started reading this I'd have given this a 5. Up until about a year to a year and a half ago I might have given it a 4. But this story just went on too long, too wrong and too weird. Way too weird. I might have considered giving this a 3 but this Final epilogue just couldn't leave well enough alone. Not only did this story end up with two endings, a cop out if there ever was one, but it also breaks the fourth wall... again. Hell, Joe didn't just break the fourth wall, he bent it over and made it his bitch. I can not in good conscious give this story anything but a 2/5. I will however give the series as a whole a 3/5 which takes into account how good it started and how bad it ended. And now it's 3:30 AM and way past my bedtime so good night or I suppose good morning would be more accurate.

too true. But you know one thing i didn't like about this fic. During his hundreds of years of travel, Harry has never got laid with a chick. Now that, is a commitment to the point of unnatural. Hell, i'm suprised he never took Ginny right at the spot and went to the nearest bed or table or whatever thats closeest. heh!

I dunno. To be honest, this is one of my favorite fics of all time. While it has some issues, and the Harry/Ginny is at times rather, um, ridiculous, the sheer EPIC of this fic is what makes it so amazing. Sure it requires a lot of suspension of disbelief, but if you go into it knowing that, and you accept what he's trying to say, he tells a hell of a story.

However, I haven't read the ending. To me, the story ended at Chapter 31. Which, incidentally, made a very good ending. I actually JUST found out that there was more to it because of the posts here. So, once I've done that, I may come back and make another post here. Or not. But I doubt that four chapters will change that much of my opinion of a fic that spans over a million words.

I mean, the way that Harry travels through dimensions, experiencing alternate universes, going on to battle the ultimate in evil itself and then doing it again tearing the universe apart in the process? The technomancy that's actually integrated into a finished fic? The sheer length? And did I mention the EPIC?

Yes, it has problems. No, it's not perfect. But it's certainly not a fucking 2/5. Perhaps it doesn't merit a perfect 5/5, but I would not rank it lower than 4.5. It's undeniably one of the greater fics out there. A fanfiction epic.

So I've read Harry Potter and the Sword of the Hero and it was... bad.

We start with Slytherin being EVIL. Why did they got him to create school again? And left his house in school? Well, no matter, no matter the story proper begins with poor attempt at making Dudley likeable just before killing him off. Then we have Harry acting like an idiot and picking terrible way of travel so he can be assaulted. But of course there are no problems, because he gets new powers out of nowhere. And defeats enemies by summoning their brooms. Wait, this is sequel to first five books. What happened to needing advanced curse to affect brooms? Well it's not like the magic in this fic will be in any way consistent with the books, so whatever.

But of course it's only start of the problems. Because we have things like Padma, with her role amounting to being the tool for badly done drama. Frightening kidnapping, and the moving breakup. Great, I'm sure that Voldemort will live her alone, thinking that Harry won't care anymore about her. Yes.
Well actually Harry didn't care anymore, because she was just tool for drama and not the proper love interest. Padma ends up forgottern by story and we have Ginny.

Ginny who was possessed by Tom.
Ginny who can't forget about being possessed by Tom.
So Harry gives her diary so she won't keep her feelings bottled up.
A diary, and it's shown as being thoughtful present.
I still don't know what the hell was author thinking here.

But in meantime Harry gets more awesome powers and kills some enemies about which he doesn't really care. Then he gets more awesome powers and kills more enemies and now he cares about killing them. And he gets more awesome powers. If he had read this fic, Tite Kubo would be jealous about Joe's skill in introducing powers out of nowhere. Of course the best power is the literal manifestation of the plot armour in form of self-creating shield.

Speaking of armours. Harry gets even richer that he already was and buys dragon hide armor for everyone. If it's so great then why Death Eaters from rich pureblood families don't wear them? They're rich after all.
Anyway. Harry weren't getting enough awesome powers on his own, so he gets trainers. Who are some random OCs of which only one has any personality, the rest is only here to teach Harry some badly named skills. But we needed them, it's not like in the castle were one of the greatest wizards of current age, or dueling master, or dark arts specialist, or great ex-auror.

In the end we again get kidnapped girlfriend. Generally repetition is rather big in this fic. For over thre hundred thousands of words we get mainly power-ups, defeating some random Death Eaters and progressively more successful meetings with the Dark Lord who always repeats his "Bow to death". But it's not Utena, and repetition doesn't lend itself to creating interesting story structure, it's just a bad writng and obvious lack of ideas.

3.5/10 for this. That would be 2/5 in rating here, but I won't rate it here as the thread is for the whole series and so far I've only read the first part.
After all it may get better (though it probably won't).

I have to say that I admire your guts for reading a 13 year old HP Fanfic, even if it was written by Joe.

Now this is the kind of review I like to see from the new people.

Harsh, but relevant criticism. Age is definitely a factor here though as Monkey points out.

Edit: Nicely put Joe. I remember enjoying this way way back in the day, not going to spoil those memories with a reread. :p
